Oppo Reno 10 Pro+ features new periscope lens

The Chinese tech giant’s top end Reno 10 model will feature a new periscope lens to its rear camera module. This new lens also enables the device to be thinner and lighter than the traditional telephoto shooter found in smartphones in the industry. But apart from just its design, it even offers new functionality as well. The periscope lens can offer up to 3x optical zoom that can take portrait shots as well.

In other words, one can take portrait shots from not only the primary wide sensor, but the telephoto lens as well. Portrait shots offer a soft bokeh effect and can compress distant elements in a scene that involves a monument, mountain, or building in the background. To avoid the camera lens being thicker, Oppo used a method of arranging the telephoto shooter in a periscope design with the lenses stacked and turned sideways.

The telephoto portrait camera offers a 64 megapixel resolution, which is the highest in the industry for a 1/2 inch image sensor. The 3x optical zoom can hit a whopping 120x magnification with hybrid zoom technology. On the other hand, the sensor also has a minimum focus distance of 25cm. With the Reno 10 series, the brand aims to offer a flagship grade mobile photography experience.

The Reno 10 Pro+ model has a 50 megapixel Sony IMX890 sensor, which has a 1/1.56 inch size and optical image stabilization as well. Alongside this camera, there is even an 8 megapixel Son IMX355 ultra wide angle lens that has a 112 degree field of view. Meanwhile, the front houses a 32 megapixel Sony IMX709 selfie camera that comes with autofocus support and facial recognition even in low light scenarios.
