Red Magic has just announced its latest generation of flagship smartphones in its home market of China. This includes the new Red Magic 8S Pro and the Red Magic 8S Pro+ models. These gadgets arrive with some top notch specs and features, so let’s have a look.

Design & Display

In terms of design, the 8S Pro and 8S Pro+ model are basically identical from the outside. The rear panel on both phones feature a micro etched embossed texture, which enabled the panel to appear glossy and premium. The Red Magic 8S Pro series also house the iconic RGB enabled fan that not only cools your device, but even adds a gaming aesthetic as well. Meanwhile, the front features a full display design thanks to its fourth generation under display camera technology. In other words, you can have completely unhindered gaming experience from the tall 6.8 inch OLED display. This panel is made by BOE and offers 2480 × 1116 pixel resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, 960Hz touch sampling rate, 10 bit color depth, 100 percent DCI P3 color gamut, 1440Hz PWM high frequency dimming, DC dimming, and 1300 nits of peak brightness as well. Notably, the two devices also feature shoulder triggers as well, which isn’t surprising since these are high end gaming smartphones.

Under the hood, the Red Magic 8S Pro series features what the company is calling the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version or Advanced Edition. This version of the existing chipset basically has a higher clockspeed of 3.36GHz and was initially an exclusive version of the chip that was featured on Samsung Galaxy smartphones. This processor is paired with up to a massive LPDDR5X 24GB of RAM and 1TB of UFS 4.0 storage. To handle such beefy specs, the company offers the ICE 12.0 cooling system with the built in fan.

The new Red Magic 8S Pro is powered by a massive 6,000mAh battery pack that supports 80W fast charging that can fully power up the device in just 35 minutes. On the other hand, the 8S Pro+ model features an impressive 165W fast charging that can power the handset to 100 percent in just 14 minutes. The brand also employs a dedicated Redcore R2 chipset in these devices that offers basically offers an improved gaming experience. This is further complimented by a pair of shoulder mounted 520Hz gaming triggers. Other notable features include, a 3.5mm headphone jack, a 3 microphone setup, 2ms low latency from WiFi 7, and dual X-axis linear motors.

Camera

The selfie camera on the Red Magic 8S Pro series is housed underneath the display, making the screen seamless from the front. This camera is a 16 megapixel OmniVision OV16A1Q sensor. On the other hand, the rear features a triple camera setup that consists of a 50 megapixel Samsung S5KGN5 primary shooter, an 8 megapixel ultra wide angle lens, and a 2 megapixel macro camera.

Pricing & Availability

The Chinese smartphone maker has launched the Red Magic 8S Pro series in multiple options. It has a starting price tag of 3,999 Yuan for the base variant but there are multiple options to choose from. Apart from this, the company has even unveiled a new Red Magic Gaming Tablet as well as a new Red Magic 8S Pro+ Bumblebee Edition which features a design inspired by the iconic Transformers franchise’s character. Pre-orders are currently live and the official sale will kick off by 11th July 2023.
