This issue came into the limelight after numerous Patreon users reported mass losses of supporters on social media platforms. A notable change in Patreon’s billing information, showing Dublin as the location, led users to believe this was the reason behind banks flagging the transactions. Bestselling author Dr. Brooke Magnanti publicly expressed her dissatisfaction after losing 80% of her patrons.

Meanwhile, Reddit user u/Competitive_Fruit901 revealed a loss of 300 patrons. Fellow Redditor u/Koratl noted that the billing problem was more serious this month and many credit card providers marked Patreon as fraudulent. u/arzen353 highlighted another issue, explaining that patrons couldn’t resubscribe after authorizing payment with their bank and had to wait for Patreon to resolve the situation.

Patreon mentioned to Engadget that the Dublin billing location was likely due to a recent upgrade with a payment processing partner, leading to changes in bank statement descriptors. The company is working closely with the partner to resolve the issue, and does not foresee flagged payments as a long-term problem. As for the timelines and specific steps to deal with flagged transactions, Patreon refrained from providing details until a complete solution is implemented. It also anticipates the payout problem to be resolved today.
