Android 14 has just been released and smartphone manufacturers are already working on their next-generation UIs based on the new Android OS. Xiaomi is one of these companies, and it is expected to unveil MIUI 15 in the coming months. However, in a surprising twist, a reliable tipster has revealed that Xiaomi is planning to skip MIUI 15 altogether and launch a brand new operating system called MiOS instead.

The tipster, Digital Chat Station, revealed via a Weibo post that Xiaomi is considering MIUI 14 to be the “final major version” in the MIUI series. Instead, the company is working on developing a completely new OS from the ground up.

A few months back, Digital Chat Station mentioned that Xiaomi is working on its own operating system that will be compatible with AOSP (Android Open Source Project) and will be used on a range of devices, including smartphones, tablets, and wearable technology. The rumored OS could likely be MiOS.

In the Weibo post, he also expressed his hopes for Xiaomi’s new system, saying that “MIUI 14’s basic experience is already top-notch, but the dynamic effects are still lagging behind. I hope the new work can completely eliminate this shortcoming!” Additionally, he also clarified that MIUI 15 would not be renamed as MiOS.

To note, Xiaomi also registered the domain name “mios.cn” in November 2022, suggesting that the new UI could possibly be in development. However, the website currently shows a 403 error and doesn’t have an SSL certificate.

It remains to be seen if or when MiOS will come into existence, but one after another leak suggests that Xiaomi is certainly planning a major change in its software ecosystem. We will keep you updated on this.
