The Tab Active 5 sticks to the tried-and-true rugged formula. Its 8-inch display is surrounded by thick bezels for protection, and there are physical buttons—Menu, Back, and Home—below the chin that should offer reliable control even with gloves. Notably, the display is touch-sensitive and comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for enhanced protection.

Its back is textured, houses a single 13MP camera on its own ring, and is accompanied by an LED light. Being a rugged device, the Tab Active 5 is MIL-STD-810H certified for durability, IP68 rated for water and dust resistance, and can handle a 1.2-meter tumble thanks to its included protective case.

The Tab Active 5 will also have a S Pen stylus support, offering IP68 protection to match the tablet itself. Samsung is also said to offer Knox security protection, face recognition or fingerprint scanning, and the ability to customize a programmable key for quick access to frequently used apps or functions. Audio will likely be handled by a single speaker with Dolby Atmos support.

On the performance side of things, the tablet is rumored to be powered by an Exynos 1380 chip with up to 6GB of RAM and 64/128GB of expandable storage. A 5050mAh battery will power the device and surprisingly, it’s said to feature Android 12 out-of-the-box. Connectivity options will include 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, and GPS connectivity.

Samsung has not yet made any announcement on the Galaxy Tab Active 5, previous report suggests that the device could be unveiled alongside Galaxy XCover 7 rugged phone in the first quarter of 2024.
