Unlike last month, the January 2024 update, comprising the latest security patch and other fixes, is finally available for compatible Pixel Phones on time. The update is primarily aimed at fixing the bugs popping up following last month’s December feature Drop. The same update is also out for the Google Pixel Watch.

Pixel-8-Pro

The January 2024 Pixel update is rolling out to the following devices: Pixel 5a, Pixel 6/6Pro/6a, Pixel 7/& Pro/7a, Pixel Tablet, Pixel Fold, and Pixel 8/8 Pro. The updates are out for both unlocked and Verizon-locked smartphones across the globe and in the US, respectively.

What’s included

Camera
Fix for users facing Camera crashes in certain conditions

Fix for users facing flashing black screen when playing video in certain conditions 
Fix for users unable to exit Setup Wizard in certain conditions 
Fix for Wallpaper on home screen showing black in certain conditions 

These features and changes are respective of the Pixel Phones and Tablets. We also hope the Pixel 6 Pro’s overheating issue during a phone call is fixed with this update.

The January 2024 Pixel update brings camera improvements and fixes some major issues with the user interface. It also packs fixes for 10 vulnerabilities with a high severity rating for the system. Then, there are chipset-based fixes for the security issues at Qualcomm, MediaTek, and others.

The OTA update is already out and may reach each smartphone within a couple of hours to a few days. Users can always check manually for the update by heading to Settings > System > System update. There’s also an option to flash the OTA update manually by downloading the respective .zip file from here.

After the December Big Update, the next QPR is due in March 2024.
