Fans eagerly awaiting the U.S. premiere of “Pokémon Horizons: The Series” on Netflix will have to hold on a little longer, as its debut has been pushed to March 7. This delay, though short, has sparked a mix of anticipation and frustration among the Pokémon community.
The new series will move beyond the beloved Ash Ketchum
Unlike previous series, “Pokémon Horizons” breaks new ground by moving beyond the familiar face of Ash Ketchum. The spotlight now shines on Liko and her partner Pokémon, Sprigatito, along with a host of other characters including Friede and his unique Captain Pikachu. Set in the vibrant Paldea Region from the games Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the series promises to offer a fresh narrative and exciting adventures.

This delay comes as a surprise, especially since the series has already been released in the UK, where fans have been enjoying it since December 2023. U.S. audiences, who are more accustomed to simultaneous releases, find themselves in an unusual position of waiting while their counterparts across the pond discuss the latest episodes.
The series’ plot revolves around Liko, a new character who arrives at Indigo Academy and quickly becomes embroiled in a mysterious plot involving a pendant necklace and a group known as the Explorers. She is not alone in her journey, as she is joined by Friede and Captain Pikachu, alongside other companions. Meanwhile, a boy named Roy dreams of becoming a Pokémon Trainer, unaware of the secret within his Ancient Poké Ball.
What makes “Pokémon Horizons” particularly interesting is its departure from the formula that has defined the franchise for decades. The introduction of new characters and settings, while still retaining the essence of the Pokémon world, is a bold move that could redefine how future series are approached.
