In a bid to strengthen its position as a global electric vehicle (EV) leader, BYD has teased the imminent arrival of its latest addition to the Yuan family, the all-new electric SUV, Yuan Up. Positioned as a compact and affordable option, the Yuan Up is expected to cater to the mass market, reflecting BYD’s commitment to making sustainable transportation accessible to a broader audience.

Built on BYD’s cutting-edge e-Platform 3.0, the Yuan Up marks a significant milestone as the first A0-class SUV on this platform, with a wheelbase between 2.2 and 2.5 meters. This platform, introduced in 2021 and already powering the BYD Dolphin, showcases the automaker’s prowess in battery electric vehicle (BEV) technology.

Compared to the earlier e-Platform 3.0 model, the Dolphin, the Yuan Up is set to be larger, boasting dimensions of 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,620 mm. The expected pricing range of RMB 100,000 to RMB 150,000 positions the Yuan Up competitively in the market, aligning with BYD’s strategy to offer diverse EV options at various price points.

Under the hood, the Yuan Up will feature a single motor with two power options: 70 kW and 130 kW, offering a top speed of up to 160 km/h. The three versions of the SUV, weighing between 1,430 kg and 1,540 kg, ensure versatility in performance and efficiency.

The Yuan family, including the Yuan Plus and Yuan Pro, has been contributing significantly to BYD’s stellar sales figures. In December 2023 alone, the Yuan family sold 41,681 units, reflecting a remarkable 41.44% year-over-year increase. In the entirety of 2023, Yuan family models accounted for 428,580 units, constituting 14% of BYD’s annual new energy vehicle (NEV) sales.

BYD’s global presence has been expanding, with the Yuan Plus already making waves in overseas markets since its release in February 2022. The automaker’s annual NEV sales in 2023 reached an impressive 3,024,417 units, with the Yuan family contributing significantly to this success.

As BYD unveils the Yuan Up in the coming days, automotive enthusiasts can anticipate more details on features, specifications, and official pricing. With pre-orders expected to commence after the full unveiling, BYD is poised to further solidify its standing as a major player in the global EV market.
