The Police authorities in Suining, Sichuan Province of China have made a huge discovery of a fake Apple Bluetooth headphone syndicate. The police recovered a huge collection of counterfeit Apple Airpods estimated at millions of US Dollars. The police destroyed nine counterfeit dens, three production lines, and six sales dens with the amount involved estimated to be about 167 million yuan (around $23.5 million).

The report indicates that more than 69,000 fake Apple Bluetooth headsets, 45,000+ semi-finished headsets, four sets of counterfeiting tools, and more than 50,000 sets of packaging materials, as well as 10,000+ sets of spare parts, were seized in the major bust. The Police stated that their investigations also revealed that the fake Apple headphones have already been sold to more than 10 provinces and cities across China including Guangdong, Shandong, Sichuan, and Hainan. This indicates that the magnitude of the distribution network of this counterfeiting ring may be extensive. There are no indications as of now whether the products have been smuggled to other markets outside China.

Apple products are popular targets of counterfeiters because of their popularity

The identification of an authentic Apple headphone can be achieved via several ways that will guide the consumer against counterfeit products. One of the ways is through appearance inspection. Genuine headphones come with the Apple logo while fake devices omit the logo. The surface treatment of a fake headphone is not as refined as you would find in an authentic Apple headphone.

Another way of establishing the authenticity of an Apple headset is by verifying the product’s serial number on Apple’s official website. If no serial numbers are shown on the headphones, that is an indication of a possible counterfeit product. There are also detailed features in an authentic Apple headset with some unique identifiers that are difficult to counterfeit. Importantly, the purchase channel could also point to possible counterfeited products. If you purchase your gadget from official channels, then there is zero possibility that you will buy a fake. There are no details yet on the number of arrests and possible prosecution of the persons involved in counterfeiting Apple headphones.
