Sony is reportedly working on its next generation of earbuds, dubbed the LinkBuds 2. While details are scarce at the moment, a leak from The Walkman Blog (via Aditya Lala) has shed light on what we can expect from these earbuds.

Sony LinkBuds 2 Specifications (Rumored)

Most notably, the leak suggests the upcoming LinkBuds may include noise-cancellation technology. This is a surprising development considering the distinctive “open ring” design of the LinkBuds. Such a design allows earbuds to filter in external sound naturally.

If the rumors are true, Sony must have found an innovative way to integrate noise cancellation with this unconventional design.

They have also appeared on the Korean RRA certification, which revealed the image of the earbuds. And it looks like Sony isn’t abandoning the core appeal of the LinkBuds design.

The charging pins and driver holes appear slightly modified now. But the earbuds still retain the open-ring structure of its predecessor.

The leak further says the LinkBuds 2 will have an “elevated audio experience” with sound quality potentially on par with the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds. The LinkBuds 2 are also said to use the same MediaTek MT2833 chipset as in the WF-1000XM5.

Regarding colors, while the regulatory filing showcases the black variant of the earbuds, leaks indicate there might also be a light gray option available. Currently, details about battery life are under wraps. But the original LinkBuds offers around five-and-a-half hours of run time per charge.

Moreover, there’s also no official word on when the Sony LinkBuds 2 will arrive. However, since it has started appearing on regulatory filings the launch could be on the horizon. Sony LinkBuds and LinkBuds S were launched in 2022, so this is an due upgrade for Sony’s earbuds lineup.
