The App Store and Google Play Store are the undisputed kings of the app world. But even though practically every smartphone uses one or the other, not all apps are available on mobile devices. The main issue is of course hefty commission that goes up to 30%. Well, thanks to new EU regulations, that’s changing in Europe and the Epic Games Store is finally landing on iOS and Android, and we even have a release date. Here are the details…

Epic Games Brings its Store to iOS and Android

Following the European Union’s mandate requiring Apple to allow alternative stores in Europe, rumors about a mobile Epic Games Store started circulating. Now, these claims have finally been confirmed. According to a statement by the company’s General Manager, Steve Allison, the Epic Games Store application will be available for both iOS and Android by the end of 2024.

We currently have no information about what the application will look like, but it’s a significant change for iOS users who want to take advantage of discounts and free game offers from Epic Games while on the go. While Epic Games has been a vocal critic of Apple and Google’s app store commissions, the company will take a 12% commission from sales on its own mobile store.

Though lower than the industry standard, this decision has been met with some criticism. It’s important to note, however, that Epic Games offers developers additional value beyond the storefront, such as the widely used and free Unreal Engine.
