At CES 2024, Asus unveiled the ROG Centra Truly Wireless Speednova gaming earbuds, with a promise of availability starting Q1 2024. Now, these earbuds have made their debut in China, marketed as the ASUS ROG TWS Speednova.
Asus ROG TWS Speednova specs:
Compared to its predecessor, the key change here is the integration of 2.4 GHz connectivity (Speednova wireless technology) along with standard Bluetooth. This approach, using a USB-C wireless receiver, aims to offer very low latency, which is important for gaming.
The device is designed to support higher-quality audio, utilizing the 2.4 GHz connection to enable 24-bit 96 kHz audio through the LC3+ codec. It incorporates Dirac Opteo technology to help improve sound quality using DSP. An interesting feature of this model is its ‘hybrid multipoint’ capability, which allows it to connect via Bluetooth and 2.4 GHz simultaneously.
The ASUS ROG TWS Speednova also features adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC), which adjusts the ANC based on the user’s ear canal shape and how tightly the earbuds fit. It can offer up to 31dB of noise cancellation. It also includes an ‘Auto Mode’ that adjusts for noise reduction and ambient sound based on the environment, with different settings for Street, Commuting, and Home.
As for audio input, the earbuds use a combination of air-conduction and bone-conduction microphones to better isolate the user’s voice from surrounding noise. The ASUS ROG TWS Speednova offers a total battery life of 46 hours with Bluetooth and 36 hours with 2.4 GHz connectivity. The earbuds feature customizable ASUS Aura RGB lighting and are available in black and white. They retain features like wireless charging and an IPX4 rating for water resistance.
Pricing & availability
Currently, these earbuds are being offered for pre-booking in China at 1,499 yuan ($208), with plans for them to be available internationally in the near future.
