Apple‘s iPhone antenna game is about to get an upgrade, and a new chipmaker is joining the party. According to a supply chain report, UMC has landed a contract to manufacture key chips for Apple’s upcoming iPhones. These chips will be integrated into the design of new iPhone antenna modules, and production is gradually ramping up.

Anokiwave was recently acquired by Qorvo, who supplies Apple power amplifiers

The chips in question come from Anokiwave, a wireless communication chipmaker recently acquired by Qorvo, a supplier of power amplifiers for Apple. Qorvo is designing the new iPhone antenna components and incorporating Anokiwave’s technology. Notably, these new chips utilize UMC’s 3DIC technology, making UMC a key player in this iPhone antenna upgrade.

Industry sources suggest that Apple is adopting this new design strategy to improve efficiency and enhance reception capabilities in its next-generation iPhones. This move coincides with the growing integration of AI functionalities in smartphones, where strong and reliable connections are crucial.

This isn’t UMC’s first rodeo with Apple components. Previously, they manufactured driver IC chips for Apple through NovaTek. With this new contract, UMC has secured another critical component order for iPhones, signifying the importance of its role in Apple’s supply chain.
