Redmi launched the K70 series back in November last year with Xiaomi’s new HyperOS running on the powerful Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. It offered a 6.67-inch 2K (1440 x 3200) AMOLED panel that goes up to 4000nits for only 2,499 Yuan (~$352) at launch. It builds up anticipation for the upcoming Redmi K80 series.

Redmi K70

According to previous rumors from tipster “Smart Pikachu” (translated from Chinese), the company is focusing on premium hardware for the Redmi K series, and as a result, there could be only two models this time – the Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro. The successor of the more affordable Redmi K80E could be launched as a Redmi Note series device.

Now the tipster has noted that the Redmi K80 series development progress has been accelerated. The device will reportedly boast a 5500 mAh battery which is 500mAh more than that of the predecessor.

Speaking of the display, it will also have a 2K resolution like the Redmi K70 and Redmi K70 Pro. However, he didn’t mention the peak brightness level. Looking at the industry trend, we can expect an even higher local peak brightness support though.

Redmi K70

According to the tipster, the Redmi K80 series is also expected to come with different SoCs for the standard and Pro models – the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and 8 Gen 4 respectively. This is in line with what we saw with the Redmi K70 series – SD8G2 AND SD8G3 for the standard and Pro model. It was also previously reported that the Redmi K80 and Redmi K80 Pro could equip the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 or the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Additionally, the phone is reported to come with a glass back and metal frame.

If the use of Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 is true, then the phone could be released in November, or at least, not before October, which is the anticipated month of release for the upcoming flagship Snapdragon chip. There’s no information about the price tag yet. We will inform you as soon as we hear about it.
