Samsung‘s Galaxy Z Flip 6 might bring a much-needed display upgrade. According to a report by Korean Media TheElec, Samsung will implement a thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) on the Z Flip 6’s foldable display.
The new UTG is rumored to be 50 microns thick, compared to the 30 microns of the Z Flip 5. This increase in thickness is said to make the crease on the foldable screen less noticeable and improve the display’s overall durability.

Samsung did work on its current foldable to make the display crease less prominent. It switched from the traditional hinge mechanism on its previous foldable with a new waterdrop-style hinge design for the Flip 5.
The new hinge allowed the foldable’s two halves to tuck flat without putting much stress on the screen. The Elec’s report claims that the Z Flip 6 will use the same hinge as its predecessor.
However, next year’s iteration might see an upgrade with a new UTG structure and hinge design. These upgrades could further minimize the crease and allow for slimmer bezels around the display.

Back to Flip 6, if the reports are accurate, the thicker UTG could position Samsung to compete more effectively with Chinese brands that have been offering crease-less display experience on their foldable for years now.
Apart from the new screen, the Flip 6 is expected to bring upgrades with a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, an improved primary camera, and a larger battery.
Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Flip 6 alongside the Fold 6 in the Unpacked event rumored to be sometime in July. We will keep you in the loop if any new details about the foldables come in.
