Samsung‘s reign as the king of foldable phones might face a challenge if a recent patent from Honor is anything to go by.

According to details found on China’s National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) website, Honor has been granted a patent for a new foldable phone design. The patent, which was filed in 2022 and approved this month, reveals a flip phone design that could make Honor’s phone stand out from the rest.

The most striking aspect of the patent illustrations is the phone’s angular corners. This sharp design deviates from the usual rounded aesthetic of foldable phones, offering a futuristic and more distinctive look.

The patent reveals no details about the device’s technical specifications. But we can see the phone has a full-screen cover display with a lozenge-shaped cutout for the cameras that will likely include a dual-camera system.

This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about a clamshell Honor phone. Reputable leak source Digital Chat Station previously hinted that Honor’s flip phone will have a bezel-less external screen calling the bezels just the “frame of the phone.” So Honor might be looking to offer a great cover screen experience for users.

If these rumors hold true, Honor’s foldable phone could give a touch competition Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 6, expected to be announced in July 2024, and Motorola’s Razr 50 Ultra, rumored for a launch in the coming months.

While the official name of Honor’s flip phone is under wraps, the upcoming foldable is rumored to be called “Honor Magic V Flip.” it aligns with the naming convention of Honor’s existing foldable phone.
