At its 2024 Fall Product Launch Event, Apple revealed the much-anticipated iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max alongside the base iPhone models iPhone 16 and 16 Plus, pushing the boundaries of design, performance, and photography.

The new iPhones feature a larger display, an advanced A18 Pro chip, and a unique camera control button that enhances the user experience. Let’s delve into its key specs.
1. iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max Specifications
Both models in the iPhone 16 Pro series come with larger displays than their predecessors, with the iPhone 16 Pro offering a 6.3-inch screen and the iPhone 16 Pro Max boasting a 6.9-inch display. Both screens feature Apple’s signature 120Hz ProMotion display for smooth scrolling and the thinnest bezels ever on an iPhone.
Under the hood, the iPhone 16 Pro series is powered by the A18 Pro chip, developed on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process. This chip offers a 6-core CPU, a 6-core GPU, and a 16-core Neural Engine capable of 35 trillion operations per second. The A18 Pro delivers 15% faster CPU performance and 20% faster GPU speeds compared to the A17 Pro, all while improving power efficiency. The increased system memory bandwidth and advanced ML accelerators also make the devices more efficient, particularly when accessing generative models.

The standout feature of the iPhone 16 Pro series is its upgraded camera system. Both models feature a 48MP main camera with a second-generation quad-pixel sensor, enabling ProRAW and HEIF photos with zero shutter lag. It also comes with a 48MP ultra-wide camera and a 12MP 5x periscope telephoto lens offering a 120mm zoom providing additional versatility for photography enthusiasts.
The iPhone 16 series comes with a new camera control button that offers tactile feedback and quick access to camera features. A single press opens the camera app, a tap captures a photo, and holding the button starts video recording. It also supports touch gestures for easy adjustments to composition, zoom, and other settings.

The A18 Pro chip enhances computational photography with real-time color and shadow adjustments, customizable photography styles, and improved video recording at 4K120fps. It also supports spatial audio capture for a more immersive experience when paired with AirPods or the Apple Vision Pro.
The series also comes with a new “Visual Intelligence” feature that offers real-time information about objects in the camera’s view much like Google Lens, providing details such as restaurant reviews, getting details from posters, or identifying dog breeds.
The iPhone 16 Pro Max is said to have the best battery life of any iPhone to date, thanks to larger batteries and better power management from the A18 Pro chip. Both models support faster charging speeds, though specific wattage details are yet to be confirmed.
The iPhone 16 Pro series comes with iOS 18, which features new tools designed to boost productivity, creativity, and user experience. It includes Apple Intelligence, a personal assistant powered by the A18 Pro chip’s machine learning, offering tasks like writing, summarizing, and image generation with full on-device privacy.
For gamers, it comes with Game Mode, enhancing performance with better frame rate consistency and reduced latency. iOS 18 also features more customization options for the home screen, along with Crash Detection and Emergency SOS via Satellite for added safety.
The iPhone 16 Pro series features a Grade 5 titanium frame that is both strong and lightweight, with a premium microblasted finish. It also comes with Ceramic Shield glass, offering twice the toughness of any other smartphone glass, and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The phones can withstand water immersion up to 6 meters for 30 minutes
Inside, a 100% recycled aluminum thermal substructure enhances heat dissipation, improving performance during demanding tasks. The devices also offer up to 20% better sustained performance than the iPhone 15 Pro.
2. Pricing & Availability
The phones come in four colors: Deep Black Titanium, Bright White Titanium, Natural Titanium, and Desert Titanium.
The iPhone 16 Pro series starts at $999 for the 128GB model, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max begins at $1199 for the 256GB variant. Pre-orders open this Friday, with devices officially available starting September 20.
