Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy S25 Ultra is shaping up to be an exciting flagship, with rumors of new features and hardware improvements. However, a recent leak suggests the device may come with a price increase, raising concerns about its affordability compared to rivals like Apple and Google.

Tipster claims “at least” $110 increase in bill of materials

A Weibo leaker, Setsuna Digital, claims the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s bill of materials (BoM) is at least $110 higher than that of the Galaxy S24 Ultra. If Samsung passes this cost increase entirely to consumers, the S25 Ultra’s price could jump from $1,299.99 to over $1,400 in some markets.

This potential price tag positions the S25 Ultra as one of the most expensive mainstream flagships on the market, surpassing competitors like the iPhone 16 Pro Max ($1,199) and the Google Pixel 9 Pro XL ($1,099). While the Ultra line has always been premium, a price hike for the second consecutive year could make it a tougher sell, even for loyal Samsung fans.

Here are some of the added costs

One major factor is the new Snapdragon 8 Elite chip, which reportedly costs 25-30% more than its predecessor. With an estimated price of around $200 per unit, the processor alone significantly impacts the overall manufacturing costs.

Additionally, the S25 Ultra is rumored to feature a new M14 display panel, designed to address the ‘grainy display’ issue seen in previous models while delivering higher brightness. However, reports also suggest Samsung may stick with the current M13 panel to cut costs, leaving this upgrade uncertain.

Another potential cost driver is the introduction of a 50MP ultrawide camera, which would replace the 12MP sensor used in earlier models. Upgrading the camera hardware would not only enhance the phone’s photography capabilities but also contribute to the increased BoM.

Nonetheless, there will be significant additions in the S25 Ultra as well. Alongside new software features and animations, the phone could also offer frame interpolation tech for 120fps gaming.
