Samsung is expected to unveil significant upgrades to its foldable phone lineup in 2025, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 set to offer wider screens than their predecessors. This upgrade could have far-reaching implications not just for the devices’ usability but also for their performance, as a larger form factor could accommodate a bigger battery.

New screen sizes for the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7

Reports suggest that the Galaxy Z Fold 7 will feature a larger main screen and cover screen compared to the current Galaxy Z Fold 6. According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the Z Fold 7’s main screen could grow to 8 inches, up from 7.6 inches on the Z Fold 6.

The cover screen is also expected to increase, moving from 6.3 inches on the Z Fold 6 to 6.5 inches, making the device more comfortable for users to interact within its closed state. Notably, the screen sizes are the same as the Z Fold Special Edition launched in October this year, which is also a bit slimmer than the Z Fold 6.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 is also rumored to get an upgrade. It is expected to feature a larger 6.85-inch main screen, compared to the 6.7-inch screen on the Z Flip 6. Furthermore, the cover screen, which was 3.4 inches on the previous model, will now be 4 inches. This larger cover screen would enable users to view more information and interact with more apps without opening the device.

Better app compatibility expected

The increased screen sizes of the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Z Fold 7 are expected to improve application compatibility for the cover screens. The Z Flip 6, while capable of displaying several apps such as music controls, calendar, and a browser on its cover screen, still faced some limitations with app compatibility. The new, larger 4-inch cover screen on the Z Flip 7 could potentially bring better support for a wider variety of apps, improving the overall experience.
