Several reports have claimed that Apple plans to launch a new edition of the iPhone SE this year. Recent rumours suggest that the company may drop the “SE” moniker and rebrand the device as the “iPhone 16e.” Today, reliable tipster Digital Chat Station shared a post on Weibo, stating that they had handled the materials used in the iPhone 16e. The post also revealed some key details about the upcoming device.

iPhone 16 key specifications leaked

According to the tipster, the iPhone 16e features a 6.06-inch FHD+ LTPS OLED display with a 60Hz refresh rate and a notch design, offering a familiar yet modern look. Its metal right-angle frame mirrors recent iPhone designs, ensuring a robust and premium build. The device resembles the iPhone 14 in many aspects, with a design and appearance that feel solid and refined.

Under the hood, the iPhone SE4/16e will be powered by Apple’s A18 Bionic chip, promising excellent performance. It will incorporate Face ID for secure unlocking and authentication, which indicates that it will ditch the Home button. For photography, the iPhone 16e will have a single rear camera. Additionally, it will be a waterproof device.

Another source, Smart Pikachu, has revealed that the iPhone 16e will incorporate Apple’s self-developed baseband, eliminating reliance on suppliers like Qualcomm for the 5G modem. The device is expected to launch in the first half of the year. To be precise, the iPhone 16e may debut in March this year.

Positioned as the most affordable iPhone in the lineup, this model is designed for users seeking an accessible entry into the Apple ecosystem without compromising on essential features. With many elements borrowed from the iPhone 14, the iPhone SE4/16e aims to balance affordability and functionality. As per other reports, the iPhone 16e will be manufactured in India.
