Samsung‘s newest flagship phones, the Galaxy S25, S25 Plus, and S25 Ultra, haven’t strayed too far from their predecessors in terms of design. Aside from the rounded edges, the phones have distinctive metal rings on the rear cameras.

However, a recent durability test has brought some interesting details about these rings, and other aspects of the phone, to light.

YouTuber JerryRigEverything, known for his smartphone teardowns and stress tests, recently put the S25 Ultra through its paces. His findings regarding the camera rings are perhaps the most surprising.

A Razor Blade Is All It Takes to Remove the Galaxy S25 Ultra’s Camera Rings

While they appear to be a solid part of the camera assembly, the YouTuber showed that they can be detached quite easily just by using a razor blade. The rings, he says, are attached “like fake eyelashes,” so it’s likely that Samsung is using an adhesive-based mounting method to attach them.

Though they probably won’t fall off under normal use, it’s surprising that Samsung has taken this approach for its flagship phones.

Beyond the camera rings, the durability test uncovered a few other interesting points. The Samsung branding on the back of the device was noticeably misaligned in the test unit.

The YouTuber clarified that this wasn’t a focus issue with the camera, but rather a potential manufacturing defect—though it could be an isolated case, as other reviewers haven’t reported similar problems.

The screen’s scratch resistance also came under scrutiny. While the previous S24 Ultra showed signs of damage at level 7 on the Mohs hardness scale, the S25 Ultra, with its supposedly upgraded Gorilla Glass Armor 2, started showing scratches at level 6.

The YouTuber also clarified that the S25 Ultra’s S Pen lacks Bluetooth functionality, despite having a battery compartment (which, notably, was empty).

The titanium construction, it turns out, is limited to the phone’s frame; the side buttons are not titanium. On a more positive note, the S25 Ultra did successfully pass Jerry Rig’s bend test.
