At MWC 2025, Samsung unveiled a series of innovative foldable concepts, most of which include not one but two hinges. One of them has a taller aspect ratio, which looks much like the Flip phones when unfolded, and is named the Asymmetric Flip. The wider form factors the Flex S, the Flex G, and the much larger Flex Note. There was also one with a rollable display, called the Slidable Solo. Let’s take a look.
Samsung has been working on these concepts for a few years and we have already seen schematics of the inward-folding, outward-folding, and rollable devices. But the newest and most unique design is definitely the Asymmetric Flip.
The Asymmetric Flip
The tri-fold asymmetric phone features two folding hinges instead of the single hinge found in traditional foldable devices. When folded, a small portion of the screen remains exposed, potentially displaying information like the time, date, or notifications, similar to an Always-on Display. However, the design is unconventional, as the top and bottom sections of the screen fold unevenly, creating an asymmetrical appearance.
The exposed screen section could provide quick access to notifications, date, and time, but its practical utility is yet to be determined.
Flex S, Flex G, Flex Note, and Slidable Solo
All the these models had two different sizes on display: one sized more like a large tablet that can shrink to a much smaller size (but will still be a bit bulky for a regular sized pocket), paired with a smaller version of it, which looks more like a regular foldable that can be carried inside a pocket.
The Flex S folds much like the Huawei Mate XT (review), meaning one-third of the display remains exposed to the outer environment when folded. For those concerned about the soft display, both the hinges in the Flex G fold inward. You can get a better idea from the images about the folding mechanism. The large versions of both the outward and inward folding devices have a display size of 12.4″.
The rollable display looks more like a portable tablet, which switches between a taller (much like the Z Fold 6 in aspect ratio) and a wider aspect ratio. There is also a giant tablet called the Flex Note with a whopping 17″ display that folds like a laptop.
We previously reported about the “Flexible Briefcase“, which is somewhat similar to the Flex Note in terms of the folding mechanism.
Will you be able to buy one of these any time soon?
That said, all of these devices are in their prototype phases. While there’s no word on whether Samsung will mass-produce these concepts as consumer devices, the brand has been working on them for quite a few years, and the Flex S and Flex G are definitely possible to mass-produce.
