Apple is rumored to replace the iPhone Plus model with the new iPhone 17 Air. This new flagship model will debut with a super slim design, which would rival Samsung’s Galaxy S25 Edge. But unlike the rest of the iPhone 17 lineup, the iPhone 17 Air might be the only model with premium materials. So here’s what you need to know.
iPhone 17 Air plans to avoid another bendgate incident
To recall, the Cupertino based giant faced criticism over the iPhone 6 Plus chassis, which was prone to bending when placed in pockets. This was later fixed with the iPhone 6s since it used a stronger aluminum frame. Back in 2023, one of the biggest highlights of the iPhone 15 Pro series was the titanium frames.

It made the device lighter and more durable. Recent rumors hinted at all four iPhone 17 models featuring an aluminum frame, but the latest report claims that the titanium frame will be exclusive to the iPhone 17 Air. This would make sense considering how the 17 Air might be the slimmest in the series with a 5.4mm body. With such a thin chassis, using titanium would help avoid any durability concerns while making it lighter as well.
In other words, it might be nearly as light as the Galaxy S25 Edge, which weighs 16 grams. Apple is expected to employ a titanium alloy that blends aluminum. While the Pro models are rumored to get vibrant new color options, the 17 Air could retain the more sober colors. Unfortunately, that is all the information we have at the moment, so stick around for more.
