Garmin has launched two new GPS smartwatches in India: the Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570. Both are designed for runners, triathletes, and fitness-focused users who want advanced tracking, training features, and health monitoring.

Garmin Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570

Forerunner 970

The Forerunner 970 has a 47 mm case, weighs 56 g, and features a 1.4-inch AMOLED touchscreen with optional always-on mode. It uses a sapphire crystal lens with a titanium bezel. The watch offers up to 15 days of battery life in smartwatch mode, 26 hours with GPS, 23 hours with SatIQ, 21 hours with all GNSS and multi-band, and 14 hours with GPS and music. Storage is 32 GB. It charges via a proprietary plug.

Garmin Forerunner 970 and Forerunner 570

It supports wrist HR, Pulse Ox, ECG app, stress, respiration, fitness age, hydration, Body Battery, sleep tracking, women’s health, skin temperature, jet lag adviser, and abnormal HR alerts. Sleep tracking includes nap detection and breathing variations. Sensors include GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, SatIQ, barometric altimeter, compass, gyroscope, accelerometer, thermometer, and ambient light sensor.

Smart features include Bluetooth, ANT+, Wi-Fi, music storage, downloadable apps, smart notifications, call and text support, red shift mode, passcode, Garmin Share, phone and watch find, LED flashlight, built-in mapping, smart trainer control, and iOS and Android compatibility. It is water-resistant up to 5 ATM. Safety features include incident detection, assistance, and live event sharing for Android.

Workout features include Garmin Coach, VO2 max, HR zones and alerts, pace strategies, auto lap, race predictor, recovery, interval training, training readiness and status, running and cycling coaches, animations, and multisport modes.

Available in three colors:

  • Carbon Gray DLC Titanium with Black/Translucent Whitestone band
  • Titanium with Whitestone/Translucent Amp Yellow band
  • Soft Gold Titanium with French Gray/Translucent Indigo band

Forerunner 570

The Forerunner 570 comes in 42 mm (42.4 g) and 47 mm (50 g) options with AMOLED touchscreen and Gorilla Glass 3 lens with aluminum bezel. Battery lasts up to 10 days (42 mm) or 11 days (47 mm) in smartwatch mode, 18 hours with GPS, 14–16 hours with SatIQ, 13–14 hours with all GNSS and multi-band, and 9 hours with GPS and music. Storage is 8 GB.

It tracks wrist HR, Pulse Ox, respiration, sleep, and fitness. It offers advanced sleep tracking, nap detection, and a sleep coach. Sensors include GPS, GLONASS, Galileo, QZSS, BeiDou, SatIQ, barometric altimeter, and compass. It supports Bluetooth, ANT+, Wi-Fi, music storage, smart notifications, red shift mode, Garmin Share, passcode, and phone-watch call/text functions. Water resistance is 5 ATM.

Training features include VO2 max, wrist-based running power, acute load, training effect, performance condition, training status, and Daily Suggested Workouts that adjust after each run. Safety features include incident detection and emergency assistance with live location sharing for Android.

Both are available on the Garmin India website with a 2-year warranty.

In other news, the Apple Watch Ultra 3, expected to debut in September, may feature a slightly larger 422 x 514 display with thinner bezels, a brighter and smoother screen, and the new S11 chip for improved performance and battery life. Satellite connectivity and blood pressure monitoring are rumored, while the 49mm titanium design remains unchanged.
