Xiaomi HyperOS 3 top features

The anticipated HyperOS 3 has recently been unveiled, bringing many new features and plenty of changes that make the software more useful, personalized, and enhance the user experience. If you are waiting for this major upgrade or have already upgraded to it, here are the five biggest changes you shouldn’t miss.

1. Xiaomi Super Island

This is one of the biggest visual upgrades to HyperOS 3 that shows real-time app updates and notifications. It works similarly to Apple’s Dynamic Island, but with its own set of unique features and capabilities. According to Xiaomi, this feature supports more than 70 services.

Many Android brands also have a similar feature, but what makes Xiaomi’s Super Island different is that it supports up to three islands or mini-panels simultaneously. This allows users to smoothly switch between multiple live activities or notifications without leaving the current screen. The iPhones can only show up to two live activities.

Xiaomi’s implementation also supports small window multitasking. Additionally, users can drag and drop content, such as trip schedules or text information, from the Super Island to supported apps.

2. Updated design and new icons

The latest HyperOS version brings visual upgrades across the system. There are new icons with more vivid color palettes, rounded corners, and a polished look, making them visually appealing and easier to recognize. The status bar has also been redesigned, featuring new icons and smoother animations.

HyperOS 3 also features a new liquid glass design with translucent, frosted backgrounds, giving a premium glass-like appearance. It has been thoughtfully added to the launcher’s search bar and settings menu, giving them a premium touch without overwhelming the interface.

There’s also a redesigned dialer app and a revamped Gallery app with auto-sorting albums, pet face recognition, and photo organization.

3. Easier and greater customization

HyperOS 3 offers a wide range of customizations, allowing you to create a more personalized experience. This includes new AI-generated dynamic wallpapers that can transform photos into cinematic visuals on the lock screen. Every time you turn on the screen, the device presents a unique visual story. Xiaomi calls it “Movie lock screen,”.

Xiaomi has made it easier to make changes to the lock screen by offering a centralized lock screen editing interface, allowing users to change wallpapers, themes, clock faces, and blur effects all in one place. Additionally, there are new clock styles, new fonts, and wallpapers to create a more personalized lock screen experience.

4. Major under-the-hood changes

HyperOS 3 performance improvements

Xiaomi has also brought notable under-the-hood improvements to offer a snappy and smooth software experience. The HyperOS 3 builds upon the HyperCore technology, which was introduced last year. With the latest advancements, Xiaomi promises a 21% faster app launch, a 4% reduction in CPU load, and a 10% power reduction for video playback.

The gaming experience has also improved with 15% improved gaming frame rates and a 9% reduction in game touch response latency. Additionally, Xiaomi has optimized over 100 system animations to offer a more fluid and responsive software experience.

5. Seamless cross-device integration

Xiaomi tightens its ecosystem with every major upgrade, enabling all Xiaomi devices to communicate effectively with one another, and HyperOS 3 is no different. Xiaomi has also tried to bridge the gap with iOS devices, while also bringing improvements for Windows users.

The company has released a dedicated desktop app that works on both macOS and iPad OS to take advantage of the new ecosystem features. HyperOS 3 enables Android apps to run seamlessly on macOS. Mac users run up to three mobile app windows, while Windows users run up to six.

Additionally, HyperOS 3 lets users unlock their Xiaomi phones using Touch ID on Apple devices. The notifications for calls, texts, and messaging apps now synchronize seamlessly between Xiaomi and Apple devices. File sharing and media viewing between Xiaomi phones and Macs have also become a lot easier.
