The Thermal Master P3 is a pocket-sized thermal imager aimed at technicians, hobbyists and electronics professionals who need precise, close-up temperature diagnostics without carrying a bulky instrument. It blends a manual-focus macro lens with on-device image enhancement and a solid metal shell, delivering a surprisingly professional tool for inspecting PCBs, HVAC systems, automotive components and more.
1Design and Build
Physically, the P3 feels premium for its dimensions. The case is made from a lightweight metal alloy with a matte finish that resists fingerprints, and the manual focus ring turns smoothly with just the right amount of resistance. At roughly 59 x 27 x 17mm and barely over 25 grams, it slips easily into a pocket but still gives a reassuringly robust impression when held. The USB-C plug is extended slightly so the camera will clear most phone cases without forcing you to remove a cover.

The standout hardware features are the manual-focus macro lens and a 256 x 192 microbolometer. The lens can focus from very close range out to long distances, which makes it effective for pinpointing tiny hotspots on circuit boards as well as surveying larger scenes.

Thermal Master’s processing pipeline then applies an AI-driven upscaling mode to produce images that read like 512 x 384. Sharper detail and finer texture appear in many scenarios, though this enhanced mode reduces live-feed smoothness.
