Realme has just announced the GT8 Pro in China, and its headline feature is a camera module you can physically swap out.

Realme is using what it calls a mechanical assembly design for this. The interchangeable camera plate is secured by two Torx screws on the side of the housing. Remove them, lift the module, and you’re free to swap in a different look in a few seconds.

The OEM offers three main camera designs: square, circle, and a robot-style. But if you’re the type who likes to mod your gadgets, Realme is opening the door for DIY designs.

The company has published the 3MF model file for the camera housing, so you can design and print your own custom module instead of relying on Realme’s official options.

Realme GT8 Pro x Ricoh GR

Design isn’t the only thing that’s new here. The GT8 Pro is also debuting Realme’s first collaboration with Ricoh GR.

The main camera is a 50MP Ricoh GR anti-glare main sensor, featuring a 7P high-lens array and five layers of ultra-low-reflection coating that bring reflectivity down to just 0.2%. The lens also uses deep-absorption blue glass and double-layer AR coatings for 97% light transmittance.

Realme has also integrated a Ricoh GR Mode, which recreates the brand’s iconic 28mm and 40mm focal lengths. According to the company, the GT8 Pro supports Quick Focus Mode and an immersive viewfinder mode to make point-and-shoot photography feel more natural.

Backing that up is Samsung’s new 200MP ISOCELL HP5 periscope camera. The HP5 sensor measures 1/1.56 inches, built on a 28nm process for better thermal control and power efficiency.

It supports recordings of 8K at 30fps, 4K at 120fps, and even FHD 480fps (though without autofocus). It’s also loaded with Super QPD autofocus, dual slope gain (DSG), and progressive HDR to improve focusing speed and dynamic range. There’s also a 25cm telephoto close-up mode for those who love macro shots.

The third rear lens is a 50MP ultrawide with an f/2.0 aperture and a 116-degree FOV.

Realme says it has co-developed an intuitive algorithm engine with Ricoh that avoids excessive processing and instead focuses on preserving texture, shadow detail, and overall realism.

This system also brings five GR-inspired film tones — including standard, positive, negative, and high-contrast black-and-white modes — with custom tweaks to color science, grain, and vignetting.

Beyond the design and camera hype, the GT8 Pro still packs the specs you’d expect from a top-end Android phone. It’s powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chip paired with up to 16GB RAM and 1TB of storage.

The display is a 2K flat panel with a 144Hz refresh rate and 7000 nits peak brightness. It also houses the 32MP selfie camera and ultrasonic fingerprint scanner.

Fueling this is a 7,000mAh battery that supports 120W wired and 50W wireless flash charging.

Pricing and availability

In China, the GT8 Pro starts at 3,999 yuan (around $560) for the 12GB + 256GB model, going up to 5,199 yuan (around $730) for the top-tier 16GB + 1TB version.
