Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 earlier this year in January, and Apple followed in September with the iPhone 17. Both devices land at the same $799 price point, and both bring significant upgrades in performance, display, and camera tech. But while the Galaxy S25 leans heavily into AI-powered features and smart interactions, the iPhone 17 focuses on display quality, battery life, and a more streamlined user experience.

Since both of these phones are already proving popular in their own ways, and Apple’s base iPhone is now more competitive than ever, it’s time to break things down clearly: Should you buy the iPhone 17 over the Galaxy S25? Let’s find out.

iPhone 17

3. Cameras

iPhone 17 gets a big camera revamp: 48MP Fusion Main, 48MP Ultra Wide, and a new 18MP front camera with a square sensor. The rear shooter now supports full-sensor 2x zoom and macro shots, while the new Center Stage front cam can automatically shift between portrait and landscape, even when holding the phone vertically.

Samsung keeps its triple camera setup with a 50MP wide, 12MP ultrawide, and a 10MP 3x telephoto lens. That 3x optical zoom gives the Galaxy S25 an edge for portrait photography, which has become a go-to for many people in daily use. On paper, the iPhone still looks ahead with its new 48MP Ultra Wide and Dolby Vision HDR video capture, which continues to set the bar for smartphone videography.

Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite brings powerful post-processing tools into the mix. Features like Audio Eraser, Portrait Studio, and Virtual Aperture give users more editing flexibility and depth control right on the device.

For casual shooting, the iPhone 17 delivers consistent, polished results across lighting conditions. For video, it’s hard to beat. Apple’s pipeline is still the industry standard. But if you enjoy tweaking your photos, applying fine-grained edits, or want better optical zoom for portraits, the Galaxy S25 might be the better creative companion.
