Highlights:
- Xiaomi now builds its own home appliances, starting with a self-produced central air conditioner.
- The factory uses automotive-grade smart manufacturing with full inspection and ultra-fast production.
- Rapid construction and in-house control let Xiaomi scale smarter, more affordable appliances faster.
- Global market impact: Xiaomi’s in-house, high-efficiency manufacturing could lower global appliance prices and accelerate smart product innovation among established brands.

Xiaomi has officially completed and put into operation its first large home appliance factory, the Wuhan Xiaomi Smart Home Appliance Factory (Phase I), located in Wuhan’s East Lake High-tech Development Zone (Optics Valley). This is Xiaomi Group’s third major smart factory, following its smartphone smart factory and automotive super factory, and it marks a clear shift in strategy from outsourcing appliances to building them in-house.
The first product from the factory, the Mi Home Central Air Conditioner Pro, has been announced as “coming soon.” Featuring a dual fan wheel design, it is Xiaomi’s first self-produced central air conditioner and represents Xiaomi taking full control over design, quality, and production, an approach more commonly seen in the automotive industry than in home appliances.
Smart manufacturing is central to the factory’s role. Key components undergo 100% quality inspection, while production efficiency allows one air conditioner to come off the line in as little as 6.5 seconds. The entire facility is connected to Xiaomi’s Surge Intelligent Manufacturing Platform, enabling tighter quality control, faster iteration, and deeper integration with Xiaomi’s smart home ecosystem.
The speed of construction also reflects Xiaomi’s manufacturing ambitions. The project moved from agreement signing in August 2024 to structural topping-out by January 2025, earning praise for refreshing the “Optics Valley speed.”
Phase I focuses on air conditioning, with six sub-factories covering household and central systems from assembly to final production, positioning Xiaomi to bring smarter, more reliable, and potentially more affordable central air conditioning to a wider market.
