Good hardware deals aren’t exactly rare, but once in a while something shows up that makes you stop for a second. This is one of those. A Reddit user, u/L0OK0UTT, recently shared what might be one of the wildest RAM deals in recent memory. They managed to pick up a 64GB DDR5-5600 laptop memory kit from Crucial for just $6.99. The post went up on r/pcmasterrace and quickly started getting attention, especially after a photo of the receipt was included.
The kit itself is pretty standard. It’s a 2×32GB DDR5 SO-DIMM setup, the kind you’d usually see in higher-end laptops or compact workstations. Under normal circumstances, this sort of memory sells somewhere in the $580 to $630 range, depending on the retailer.
What makes this story stand out is how simple it was. The RAM kit was sitting on a rack at a local liquidator store, labeled as an Amazon return, but there was no price attached. When the user took it to checkout, the system couldn’t recognize the item at all. After trying to look it up without success, the cashier eventually just charged a flat $6.99 and moved on. No special discount or clearance tag. Just a case of the system not knowing what it was scanning.
Liquidator stores usually deal with returned or excess inventory, so pricing can be a bit inconsistent. Items aren’t always labeled properly, and sometimes they don’t exist in the system in a clean way. Most of the time that just leads to random pricing, but every now and then something slips through like this.
Deals like this are obviously rare, and not something you can really expect to replicate. Still, if there’s a liquidator store nearby, it might be worth a visit once in a while. Chances are you won’t walk out with 64GB of DDR5 for the price of a coffee, but clearly it’s not impossible.
