Motorola expands Android 17 beta program to Edge 70 Max

The Motorola Edge 70 Max is the latest smartphone to join the company’s ongoing Android 17 beta program. Ideally, the device should have launched with the newest Android OS since it was launched in July 2026, but anyway, it’s good to see Motorola acting quickly to bring the update.

According to the official community post, the Android 17 beta program for the Edge 70 Max is live in EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa) and India. This doesn’t just mean the beta build is rolling out; it means the company is now allowing people to register for the beta testing opportunity.

As always, the number of testers should be limited, and you must therefore submit your participation as early as possible to stand a chance. Unlike beta applications from other brands, Motorola’s require a few extra steps. Once you’ve upgraded to Android 17 beta, you’ll have many new features and plenty of upgrades to explore. For instance, there’s a new Classic Control Center, new status bar icons, and updated home screen icons. Motorola has also improved haptics that now feel different when you swipe a notification.

Motorola has integrated Live Updates into the camera cutout in the middle, similar to Apple’s implementation. Previously, it would appear on the left side of the Status bar. The update also adds support for most day-to-day apps.

The lock screen gets new clock faces and new font styles. Motorola has made it a lot easier to take screenshots and open split-screen. Now, you can swipe down three fingers to take a screenshot. To open a split-screen, simply swipe up three fingers. The update also brings some new features, including Landscape Stereo, Enhanced HDR Brightness, and Battery health.
