Tipster Digital Chat Station has shared more details about the OnePlus 16’s display in a Weibo post today. The phone is expected to use a custom BOE panel with several new display technologies.
The centerpiece is BOE’s custom-designed X4 luminescent material, which the company has been developing specifically for this phone. Layered on top of that is what the tipster calls the industry’s first global 165Hz ultra-high refresh rate — meaning the high refresh rate isn’t limited to select apps or games but applies system-wide. OnePlus has already been teasing this for weeks.
The display will also reportedly include a self-developed display chip made using a new manufacturing process. The chip is said to go through three separate calibration processes. Other reported features include Oppo’s latest eye-protection technology and narrow bezels on all four sides.
On the software side, the OnePlus 16 is expected to run ColorOS 17. The system will reportedly include new animations designed around the higher refresh rate.
For gaming, the phone is expected to use the Oriental Screen 4.0 display along with upgraded gaming features. OnePlus China president Li Jie previously confirmed that three exclusive gaming technologies are being overhauled for the OnePlus 16.
Rest of the specs
The rest of the phone is filling in around that screen. According to leaks, it will be powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chip, a battery near 9,000mAh, and a rear camera setup built around a 200MP periscope telephoto lens paired with 50MP primary and ultrawide sensors.
As for the camera experience itself, the blogger kept things vague, only saying an upgrade is coming and that details will follow later. With the phone tipped for an October launch, expect plenty more leaks before OnePlus makes anything official.
