The Nothing OS 5.0 Open Beta rollout went live last month, starting with the flagship Phone (3), and is now expanding to Phone (4a) Pro users. The Android 17-based update brings tons of changes across the software, including a redesigned control center, Lucent themes, expanded lock screen customizations, and new AI features.
The Nothing OS 5.0 beta update for the Phone (4a) Pro has been released a week later than the brand promised earlier. It comes with a total download size of 2.73GB. What upgrades does Nothing OS 5.0 beta offer to Phone (4a) Pro?
Nothing OS 5.0 is one of the biggest upgrades for Nothing phones in recent years. From new icons to building apps with AI, there are plenty of exciting changes packed into this major upgrade. As for the visual changes, there’s a redesigned Control Center with an iOS flavor, a brand-new theme, a separate notification panel, and upgraded status bar icons and animations.
The lock screen and home screen also receive notable upgrades, including wallpaper-adaptive colors for app icons and quick settings tiles, the Away Time and Collector widgets, Glyph Timer, and improved depth effects.
Nothing OS 5.0 strongly focuses on upgrading the AI capabilities on Nothing phones. It brings an upgraded on-voice engine and enables MCP support. There’s a new Smart Selection feature inside Essential Space that automatically groups, sorts, and organizes your scattered photos and screen captures. Plus, an Essential Apps Builder to allow users to build custom apps using text prompts.
Nothing phones finally receive a dedicated Glyph app, allowing users to control custom lighting animations, ringtone schedules, and sounds. The update package also includes several Android 17 core features, including expanded Dark Mode, cross-platform Quick Share, a floating screen recorder, improved privacy indicator, and isolated audio controls.
Two missing upgrades are coming with a stable release
Nothing OS 5.0 introduces two new clock faces: Gooey and Micrographics. “Gooey” features a bold, playful design and is being rolled out to beta devices, but “Micrographics”, which is inspired by mechanical typography, is still undergoing final development, and so it isn’t available to Phone (4a) Pro just yet.
Nothing has confirmed that the refreshed home screen is also under development.
These two unfinished upgrades will ship with the general release starting in October.
