Rollme has launched the Matrix, a new wearable designed to function as a standalone 4G device on your wrist. Thanks to a dedicated SIM card slot, built-in GPS, and an unusual side-mounted pop-up camera, the smartwatch can operate independently without a smartphone.
Rollme Matrix Specifications
The Matrix features support for global 4G frequency bands, allowing it to work independently from a smartphone for calls, messages, and apps that require an internet connection. It also offers Bluetooth calling when paired with a phone.
Rollme has equipped the watch with a side-mounted pop-up camera that can be extended when needed for photos and video calls. Its positioning gives the camera a more natural angle for video chats compared to the fixed upward-facing cameras used on some earlier smartwatch designs.
Up front, the Matrix sports a large 2.06-inch AMOLED display with a 410 x 502 resolution. Under the hood, it runs on an SL8541E processor paired with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of internal storage. That provides enough overhead to handle basic app downloads from its ecosystem, which supports video, music, and navigation tools.
On the health and fitness side, the Matrix covers the standard bases. It includes 24/7 heart rate monitoring, one-tap blood oxygen (SpO2) measurements, and sleep tracking that breaks down deep, light, and REM cycles. For outdoor use, it features built-in GPS and a geomagnetic sensor for compass navigation, alongside multiple workout modes.
To handle the higher power demands of standalone 4G connectivity and GPS, Rollme has equipped the Matrix with a 1,100mAh battery, which is considerably larger than what is typically found in a smartwatch.
The battery charges through a magnetic cable and takes around 80 minutes to reach 100%. The watch also comes with an IP67 rating for protection against dust and everyday splashes, but it is not intended for swimming.
Pricing and Availability
The Rollme Matrix is available now through the company’s official online store. It is offered in two colors, Midnight Black and Dawn Gold, at a launch price of $89.99.
