Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 is earning praise for its slimmer, lighter foldable design, but a new wave of user reports suggests not everything is perfect. Owners have complained about paint chipping — a cosmetic flaw that feels out of place on a device that costs over $2,000.

One user shared photos of paint peeling despite claiming they had “babied” the phone — no drops, no rough handling, no contact with keys or coins. Others quickly chimed in with similar stories, covering multiple color options. That rules out the possibility of it being limited to just one finish.
This isn’t the first time Samsung has faced such complaints. Last year’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 had a similar controversy, which the company blamed on “poorly grounded” third-party chargers creating “leakage currents” that damaged the anodized coating. But the explanation doesn’t fully hold up this time — at least one Z Fold 7 owner said they only used Samsung’s official 25W charger, yet still saw the paint coming off. That raises questions about whether the problem lies in the anodization process or even in Samsung’s own accessories.

Some frustrated owners have already reached out to service centers, but feedback so far has been inconsistent. One case was reportedly escalated all the way to Samsung’s corporate team, though the company hasn’t issued a public comment yet.
For a device that positions itself as the pinnacle of Samsung’s hardware engineering, cosmetic issues like this are more than just an annoyance — they risk denting consumer confidence in the foldable lineup just as rivals are stepping up with their own premium foldables. For now, all eyes are on Samsung to see how it addresses the growing chatter around the anodized paint on its premium foldables.
