The MIJIA Desktop Study Lamp Pro has a white minimalist design and offers seamless integration into homes in different styles. The product utilizes a two-stage lamp head design with an illumination of more than 300 lx. It provides sufficient illumination uniformly to a 1.2-meter study table with its 120 lamp beads. Taiwanese tech giant ASUS has unveiled a new QD-OLED monitor under the ROG Strix series. The Asus XG27AQDNG monitor is rated 1440p and has a peak refresh rate of 360Hz. The monitor is also anti-glare and has a size of 26.5 inches.

The new Asus ROG Strix QD-OLED monitor is similar to the XG27AQDMG but with some key differences. The older model featured a glossy panel while the latest model omits such. The new model also comes with a maximum display refresh rate of 360Hz, unlike its predecessor which peaked at 240Hz. Both monitors have a 1440 pixel resolution and feature the same gray-to-gray (GtG) latency of 0.03ms. The monitors feature Asus’ OLED Anti-Flicker technology and anti-burn-in OLED Care+ battery settings. The new monitor has a similar gaming-style stand as its predecessor.

The QD-OLED panel of the Asus ROG Strix XG27AQDNG however differs from that of its predecessor, the XG27AQDMG which sports a WOLED panel. This means the new model has a less even brightness distribution between the two. The new display has a powered USB-C port, an HDMI 2.1 interface, and DisplayPort 1.4 connection. The high refresh rate and other features position the new Asus ROG Strix QD-OLED monitor as a gaming monitor. It can provide passthrough charging up to 90W via its USB-C port.

ASUS has revealed a new gaming monitor under the ROG Swift lineup. The ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDP has a 1440p OLED panel and a 480Hz display refresh rate. The model omits a glossy display and was part of the highlights at Gamescom 2024 in Cologne, Germany.

Xiaomi has unveiled the Smart Door Lock 2 Pro in China. The Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Pro supports 3D structured light face unlocking and features a built-in large screen. The product is the successor to the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 and aligns with other models in the series design-wise.

The Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Pro has a large electronic cat-eye display screen. The in-built screen allows the user to view conditions outside the room from inside the door. Thus the dual-battery system of the Xiaomi Smart Door Lock 2 Pro has a total battery life of 8 months.

The smart door lock works systematically to conserve the dry battery life. When the lithium battery is fully charged, the total power supply comes from it until it depletes to 10%. At 10% of the charge remaining, the door lock switches automatically to the super power saving mode. When the lithium battery is fully exhausted, the device automatically switches to the dry battery setup for power supply. The smart door lock supports using a Type-C cable to connect to a power bank to temporarily unlock the gadget when the battery is completely exhausted.

The MIJIA Automatic Fragrance Machine 2 Set, like almost all Xiaomi products, adopts a minimalist design. The automatic fragrance machine is available in three colors: black, white, and pink. It supports automatic intermittent fragrance spraying, uses microporous atomization technology, and provides three adjustable concentration levels. The first level sprays the fragrance for 3 seconds every 20 minutes. The second level sprays the fragrance for 3 seconds every 15 minutes. The third and final level sprays fragrance for 3 seconds every 10 minutes.

In addition, it offers three customized “perfume-grade” fragrances, namely “Cypress Green Tea” which matches the white set, “Summer Rose Pink Lychee” which matches the pink set, and “Twilight Earth” which matches the black set.

The announcement of the new accessories was made during the 2024 Future of Memory and Storage Conference. The new offerings are the brand’s most ambitious storage devices and expand the possibilities in the memory/ storage segment.

The new Western Digital products will catch the fancy of many consumers with their massive capacity. Western Digital is a global leader in the expandable storage market and it continues to set the standards with new models. The newly announced devices are the SanDisk 8TB SDUC UHS-I SD card and 16TB SanDisk Desk Drive external SSD.

The SanDisk 8TB SD card features the Secure Digital Ultra Capacity (SDUC) standard and will support up to 100MBps speeds. It is best suited for consumer devices and Western Digital also announced the SanDisk 4TB MicroSD. Western Digital currently has the SanDisk 1TB Extreme PRO SDXC UHS-I which retails at $139 on Amazon. There are no pricing and release details yet for the new storage devices. The DJI Neo pocket drone has been the subject of growing speculation. New evidence about the drone has now been revealed. It seems the DJI Neo will be DJI’s next release and it will be compatible with the DJI Googles 3. DJI will also launch a cheaper pair of FPV googles compatible with the drone.

The new details that emerged online point to an imminent launch of the DJI Neo compact drone. The DJI Neo weighs 135g and will compete against the HoverAIR X1 currently priced at $349. There are no official DJI teasers yet on the Neo but it is claimed that the model could be introduced by the end of August. A recent leak revealed retail packaging for the DJI Neo in addition to a few images of the drone. There is an alleged official DJI Neo image already online as well.

The leaked DJI Neo render highlights the scale of the drone’s propeller guards and its gimbal hardware setup. The DJI Neo has also shown up in DJI Beta software together with the Avata 2, Mini 4 Pro, and DJI Air 3. A tipster has also claimed to have received confirmation that the DJI Neo could deliver up to 16 minutes of flight time. The tipster, Jasper Ellens did however not substantiate his claims with credible evidence.

The DJI Neo was also claimed to be compatible with both the existing DJI motion controllers and the brand’s first-person view (FPV) Googles 3. Anbernic is preparing to launch the RG40XX V retro gaming handheld. The RG40XX V comes with a 4-inch display and it is a departure from the slew of horizontal devices released by the brand in recent times. The vertical handheld retro gaming device has a design similar to the AYANEO Pocket DMG.

The Anbernic RG40XX V will be coming on the heels of the earlier launch of a new version of the K101 Plus. The model seems to be an expansion of the RG40XX H currently available on Amazon. It is a vertical version of the RG40XX H. It has an IPS display with a resolution of 640 x 480 pixels. It comes with an unspecified chipset claimed to be powerful enough to emulate retro games such as Dreamcast, Nintendo 64, and PlayStation 1 games. The chipset could be the Allwinner H700 common with Anbernic’s popular gaming handhelds.

The RG40XX V retains a 3,200mAh battery that is also featured in the RG40XX H. Anbernic omitted one joystick on the RG404XX V, making it draw design comparisons with the AYANEO Pocket DMG. It features a pair of shoulder buttons as well as a MicroSD card reader. Anbernic will be offering the RG40XX V retro gaming handheld in white, and black translucent colorways. All the color options come with RGB backlighting which enhances the overall gaming experience.

Alldocube has announced the Mini 2 Android tablet. The new Alldocube Android tablet is equipped with an 8.4-inch screen and comes with a full-featured configuration. The tablet runs on Android 14 operating system and uses UFS storage.

The Alldocube Cube Mini 2 has a 5MP front camera and a 13MP rear camera. The screen resolution of the tablet is 1200 x 1920 pixels and it’s running on Android `14 out of the box is a major advantage of the model. As per the specs also available for the Cube Mini 2, it will be equipped with the RK3588 chip. It is noted that the RK3588 chip does not support UFS storage, hence it is logically projected that the product itself may be available in two versions.

Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD is making significant inroads into the North American market and could soon berth in Canada. The biggest Chinese EV maker has already entered the Mexican market and there is an official confirmation.

BYD released a press statement jointly with Uber that announced a new partnership between both companies. The partnership offers Uber drivers discounted pricing and special financing options on BYD EVs.

The goal of the new partnership is to deliver 100,000 BYD EVs into the Uber network. This will be a remarkable milestone for BYD as it continues to grapple with claims from the US and Europe that its products are excessively subsidized by Beijing. EV makers in the US and Europe therefore feel threatened by the most affordable offerings by Chinese EV makers as a whole, of which BYD is the leader.

Chinese companies offer some of the most affordable, advanced, and long-range EVs. BYD already has a global presence in the Middle East and Oceania. It currently does not retail passenger vehicles in Canada. Rather it sells buses in Canada, as in the US.

Currently, the stringent 100% tariff regime for Chinese EVs makes the US market impossible to enter at this time. However, it already sells its cars in Mexico and Canada is on the verge of being included. It is also possible to have some inroads into the US market via Mexico or Canada, as there are no tariffs on vehicles imported to the US from those countries. There are however regulations in place that will prevent BYD from just dumping its vehicles in Canada with the possibility of entering the US market. The US-Mexico-Canada trade agreement stipulates that at least 75% of the value of such vehicles must come from parts and materials sourced from either of the three countries.

It remains to be seen how the US government directly or indirectly reacts to BYD’s entry into the passenger EV market in Canada.

Samsung is making significant progress in unveiling a very powerful battery in the EV market. The South Korean tech giant has showcased its new battery that offers up to 600 miles of range for just 9 minutes of charge. The battery was revealed at the SNE Battery Day 2024 expo in Seoul, South Korea. It says it has begun a pilot run for its solid-state battery line. The pilot line was built in 2023 to mass-produce all-solid-state batteries by 2027, according to the company.

The new Samsung EV battery has already been delivered to EV manufacturers for testing since the end of 2023. Samsung SDI, the specific arm of the tech giant says it is already receiving positive feedback on the battery. The batteries are capable of delivering a driving range of 600 miles (965km) for 9 minutes of charging. Samsung says the battery is designed to have a lifespan of 20 years.

The new Samsung solid-state battery comes lighter, smaller, and safer than lithium-ion batteries which are popularly deployed in EV vehicles. They can enhance safety by replacing the liquid components with solid ones. They take less space and are thus much lighter, holding lots of promise in the EV industry. Samsung says the new batteries will be limited to the super-premium segment of the EV space, highlighting their likely cost outlay. Samsung will also be introducing high-nickel NCS products for the high-end segment as well.

The energy density of Samsung’s solid-state battery is 500Wh/kg which is a massive leap above the current average of around 270Wh/kg. It is unclear what Samsung SDI refers to as 9-minute charging. However, this is unlikely to mean a full charge to be achieved in 9 minutes. Indeed, if the claim relates to quick charging (say from 20% to 80%), then the actual range of the battery could exceed 965km (600 miles). Samsung is also developing lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and cobalt-free batteries that will be more affordable.

BYD continues to square up with Tesla for the top spot in the EV market despite a stringent tariff regime preventing it from entering the lucrative US market.

The Uber-BYD engagement is a multi-year strategic partnership that will see BYD delivering 100,000 EVs onto the Uber platform across several countries. The markets cover Europe, the Middle East, Canada, Australia, and Latin America. The project will start with some key markets in Europe and Latin America. In a press statement jointly signed by both companies, it was revealed that the duo is working together to bring down the total cost of EV ownership for Uber drivers. The move is targeted at accelerating the uptake of EVs on the Uber network on a global scale. The move is also aimed at introducing millions of riders to ‘greener rides’.

The agreement, according to Uber’s CEO, Dara Khosrowshahi, is the largest global agreement of its kind. It comes with great prospects for the two companies and will significantly reduce the carbon footprint of Uber drivers who switch to EVs. EVs can deliver up to four times the emission benefits compared to a regular ICE Uber car. Last January, Uber announced it was working with Tesla to enhance the accessibility of EVs to its drivers. The move was aimed at enhancing the adoption of EVs by Uber drivers and a $2,000 incentive was on offer for its drivers who wanted to switch.

It is noted that there could be several challenges drivers face in trying to transition to electric vehicles in their Uber ride-sharing service. Some researchers at the University of Kaunas, Lithuania have developed indoor solar cells with 37% charging efficiency. It has been a challenge previously to convert artificial light to energy when compared to solar energy conversion. The Lithuania-based research group has developed a new type of perovskite solar cell with high efficiency and capability for drawing power from artificial light.

Current photovoltaic cells hardly work indoors where artificial light with a smaller spectrum and less energy is present. There are a lot of small devices such as smart sensors, digital clocks, and similar low-energy devices that function at night when solar energy is not available. The new indoor solar cells therefore provide new vistas for many possibilities. The cells could provide power for these devices based on minimal artificial light which is almost always available at night.

The new solar cells were developed to be efficient and capable of handling energy from a limited light spectrum. The material is made from an organic semiconductor combined with perovskite resulting in a decent energy conversion rate. The light source used in the experiments conducted by the research team was a warm white LED with a temperature of 3,000 Kelvin, corresponding to the typical room temperature for living rooms. The spectrum is similar to that of natural light but it lacks infrared radiation. Apart from a special layer of perovskite, the cell utilizes thiazole molecules to conduct positive charges. The extensive experiments yielded a 37% efficiency using light from a standard LED. The efficiency of the new solar cell technology is just 19% when utilizing solar energy.

There are no indications yet on the timelines for the transition of indoor solar cell technology into a commercial product. The optics are however good that the model will become a reality later.

A new video leak and certification details indicate that the upcoming DJI Neo mini camera drone is smaller and lighter than the DJI Mini. The video leak illuminates the yet-to-be-released DJI Neo while the FCC certification leak confirms the model is close to an official release.

DJI is a market leader in the drone market and has an innovative and widening portfolio of impressive drones for a wide variety of operational scenarios. Several DJI drones have leaked but are yet to be officially released including the DJI Mavic 4 and DJI Osmo Action 5. The target audience for the new DJI Neo is users of mini-camera drones. The DJI Mini series include some pretty small models but the Neo is coming in an even smaller and lighter form factor.

The upcoming DJI Neo is a professional-grade mini drone with a weight less about 170 grams. It is noted that there are currently smaller nano drones such as the HoverAir X1 (130g) which is much smaller than the DJI Neo. The HoverAir X1 is foldable and is self-flying and the Neo will compete against it. The name of the DJI Neo was confirmed via the FCC certification for the model. The technical details of the DJI Neo are not known fully as the FCC certification details omitted such information. It is however reported that the DJI Neo has a 1,435mAh battery and a recent X video by drone tipster OsitaLV showed the model in flight.

It is speculated that the DJI Neo will deliver up to 15 minutes of flight time and comes with a significantly smaller battery than the DJI Mini 4 Pro. The drone could be suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. It features a propeller cage and a single-axis gimbal-stabilized camera. The foldability of the drone was not evident in the leaked video and it is unclear whether the drone is self-flying. The model, as per the video, comes with a classic controller which could indicate it is not self-flying.

DJI has not released any official details yet on the rumored DJI Neo mini camera drone. It is however expected that the model could be close to an official release. Exact pricing and release details could then be released later.

Ola Electric is readying the release of a new electric motorcycle from its stables. Ola’s CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has shown a teaser image of an upcoming Ola Electric e-motorcycle. This will be the brand’s first electric motorbike, as the company has a remarkable collection of e-scooters. The teaser image revealed the battery pack, electric motor, front sprocket, and final drive chain of the model. It is rumored that the new Ola Electric electric motorcycle official announcement could be made on August 15.

Barely a year ago, Ola Electric showcased four concept electric motorcycle models with futuristic designs. The social media post by Ola’s CEO is believed to be a pre-production model of one of the four bikes showcased by the company. The e-motorcycle, as per the teaser image, has a steel tubular frame that houses a compact battery pack. The electric motor sits below the battery pack while the drive chain has a feasible front sprocket. The image also reveals several control modules strategically located on the bike.

The teaser image also reveals a portion of the seat highlighting the presence of forward-set footpegs which confirms that the model is an e-motorcycle. The seat height is almost the same as the height of the battery pack, suggesting accessible saddle height for riders. The name and full specs of the teased Ola electric motorcycle are still under wraps. It is unlikely that the model will become a production model within this year. The August 15 announcement of Ola Electric’s upcoming product offerings could provide the needed optics for the e-motorcycle.

The Npad Ultra Android tablet has been unveiled by N-One. The Npad Ultra runs on Android 14 out of the box and is a high-resolution tablet powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Npad Ultra also comes with WideVine L1 certification and a dual SIM setup.

N-One has a portfolio of affordable devices and the new Npad Ultra will follow the same trajectory. Thanks to its Android 14 OS, the Npad Ultra utilizes the latest operating system. It is however projected that the model may not be available for major OS updates due to its cheaper price tag. The Npad Ultra is equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 685 SoC with a RAM capacity of 8GB. The RAM can be significantly expanded using a type of swap file while the memory capacity is 128GB. As with the RAM, memory expansion is also possible with the Npad Ultra.

The N-One Npad Ultra Android 14 tablet has a 2,000 x 1,200 pixels resolution on its 12-inch screen across. The WideVine L1 certification means that the Npad Ultra can stream video content from Amazon Prime Video or Netflix at 1080p resolution. The tablet is equipped with four built-in speakers to achieve a decent sound output. The main camera of the tablet is a 13MP sensor while the front camera is rated 5MP. The Npad Ultra tablet has a 9,200mAh battery that can be recharged at 18W. The Npad Ultra Android 14 tablet supports dual LTE and WiFi network connectivity.

The Npad Ultra is available for pre-order from Geekbuying for $243 in Europe. The earliest delivery of the tablet is about three weeks but the global availability details are lacking for the tablet at this time.

The MagicX XU HD gaming handheld has been revealed. The upcoming compact gaming handheld is touted as a strong competitor of the Anbernic RG34 and three color variants have already been shown for the model. The MagicX XU HD is allegedly coming with a highly affordable price tag.

MagicX could be close to the release of its next retro gaming handheld, the XU HD. Previously, the company developed the MagicX XU Mini M as a competitor of the Anbernic RG28XX and Miyoo Mini A300 although it is yet to be released. A tipster @forthenextlive claims that MagicX is actively developing the XU HD and the images bear a strong semblance to the Anbernic RG35XX 2024.

The XU HD is equipped with a 3.2-inch 4:3 display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels. If the resolution of the model is true, then it is more dense than the RG35XX with a 3.5-inch screen and 640 x 480 pixels resolution.

The upcoming retro gaming handheld omits joysticks but has a d-pad, ABXY buttons, start/select buttons, and two pairs of shoulder buttons. It is also rumored that the gaming handheld omits support for Bluetooth or WiFi connectivity in a minimalist cost design.

The MagicX XU HD will run on the MagicX OS based on Linux and also features an A9 architecture Chinese chip. The MagicX XU HD is capable of emulating popular retro games from Nintendo DS, Nintendo 54, and PlayStation 1.
