Google Chrome browser recently received a major change in its UI, i.e. the new Download Tray button instead of the Download Bar. The download bar is there for quite a long, and now Google seems to have changed the old look with the new elegant Tray.

There are several reasons behind the recent facelift to the stable Chrome 115 version. The old Download Bar was affecting the user experience as it was consuming a lot of space when shown. Further, the bar looked more primitive, and the new Tray made it more modern and minimalist. Some users are complaining about the new Download Tray and are looking for ways to turn off Chrome browser’s new Download Tray and return to the old Download Bar.

We have detailed a few steps to disable the Download Tay on Chrome 115 and newer versions.

How to Turn Off Chrome’s Download Tray

To disable the Download Tray, the user has to disable a Chrome flag. To do so follow the steps below:

    1. Open Chrome and type chrome://flags/#download-bubble.
    2. It will take you to the Download Bubble flag, which is selected by default if using Chrome 115.
    3. To turn off the new Download Tray, the user must select “Disabled” from the drop-down menu.
    4. Once done, relaunch Chrome for the changes to take effect.

Now, you will see the primitive Download bar instead of the Download Tray on the Google Chrome browser. The method is the same for all Operating Systems including Windows, macOS, and LinuxOS.
