Design
Starting with the design, both phones come with a plastic frame, but the Reno8 T 5G has a larger form factor with dimensions of 162.3 x 74.3 x 7.7 mm and a weight of 171g, while the Reno8 T 4G measures 160.8 x 73.8 x 7.8 mm and weighs 180g. The 5G variant is definitely a more beautiful phone. Besides being thinner and lighter, it also comes with a very elegant curved screen at the sides. But the 4G variant is all but ugly: it comes in a special color variant with a leather back, however, it has a lower screen to body ratio and a flat display. On the other hand, it is much more compact, so do not underestimate it.
Display
The OPPO Reno8 T 5G has a larger 6.7-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2412 pixels, while the OPPO Reno8 T 4G has a 6.43-inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels. Both phones use AMOLED technology (providing vivid colors and deep blacks) and have a Full HD+ resolution. The display on the Reno8 T 5G is slightly taller due to its 20:9 aspect ratio, while the Reno8 T 4G has a 20:9 aspect ratio but with a smaller diagonal. The Reno8 T 5G also has a higher pixel density of 395 PPI, compared to the 409 PPI of the Reno8 T 4G. The 5G variant has a higher 120 Hz refresh rate and it is able to show up to one billion colors, another element making its panel superior. Overall, both phones have good displays, but the Reno8 T 5G has a larger screen and it should provide better image quality, as well as more smoothness.
Specs & Software
The OPPO Reno8 T 5G is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 5G processor, while the Reno8 T 4G comes with a Mediatek Helio G99 chipset. As the name suggests, the Reno8 T 5G is equipped with a 5G modem, making it compatible with 5G networks. On the other hand, the Reno8 T 4G is only compatible with 4G networks. The performances of these two chipsets are not so different from each other, even though the Snapdragon 695 5G is slightly better. Coming to the memory configurations, these phones offer 8 GB of RAM and up to 256 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage. They run Android 13 out of the box, customized by ColorOS 13, and they will get two years of major updates.
Camera
Both phones have a similar triple camera setup on the rear, with a 100 MP main sensor, a 2MP macro lens, and a 2MP depth sensor on the 4G variant. The Reno8 T 5G has a better 108 MP main sensor, not for the resolution but for the kind of sensor itself. Both phones have the same 32MP front-facing camera for selfies.
Battery
The Reno8 T 5G has a slightly smaller battery capacity of 4800mAh compared to the 5000mAh battery on the Reno8 T 4G. However, the Reno8 T 5G supports faster charging with a 67W fast charging capability, compared to the 33W fast charging capability on the Reno8 T 4G. Do you prefer a bigger battery with slower charging or a smaller one with faster charging?
Price
The OPPO Reno8 T 5G is available in the Asian market with a starting price tag of about $360 or €340 at the actual change, while the 4G variant is available in Europe with a price of $422 or €399 for the 256 GB configuration. Which one would you pick?
