1. Add someone on Telegram using the phone number
If the contact number is already saved to your phonebook, tap the pencil icon at the bottom-right corner inside the Telegram app and scroll through the list to find that person. Tap on it to initiate a chat.
If the contact isn’t saved to your phonebook, follow these steps:
On Android:
Step 1: Open Telegram and tap the pencil icon at the bottom-right corner.
Step 2: Select New Contact.
Step 3: Enter contact details and tap Create Contact. It will directly open the chat window.
On iPhone:
Step 1: Open Telegram and tap the New Message icon at the top-right of the screen.
Step 2: Choose New Contact.
Step 3: Enter contact details and hit the Create button.
On PC:
Step 1: Open the Telegram app or Telegram web on your computer.
Step 2: Click on three horizontal lines on the upper-left side and choose Contacts.
Step 3: Tap Add Contact.
Step 4: Enter the contact details and click Create.
If Telegram shows an “Invite to Telegram” message on your screen, it means the other person hasn’t signed up for Telegram yet.
2. Add someone on Telegram by their username
This is one of the easiest ways to add a person to your Telegram account, provided that you have that person’s Telegram username.
Open the Telegram app, tap on the search icon (on phones) or search bar (on PC), and enter ‘@’ (without quotes) followed by the username. You’ll find the person in the search results. Tap on the correct profile to open the chat window.
