In November, Vivo unveiled the Vivo X100 and X100 Pro smartphones in China. Both phones feature the Dimensity 9300 chipset. While Vivo fans were expecting the Vivo X100 Pro+ equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip to go official with the X100 and X100 Pro, the company did not unveil it at that time. Several reports have claimed that the phone has been renamed the Vivo X100 Ultra and is scheduled to debut in the second quarter of this year. Vivo’s Vice President for Product, Huang Tao, confirmed via Weibo that the company will soon launch phones with satellite communication support. This suggests that the X100 Ultra’s launch may not be far away.

Vivo to soon launch satellite communications enabled phones

Several reports have claimed that the Vivo X100 Ultra, which will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, will have support for two-way satellite communication. This will allow the smartphone to compete with the likes of the Find X7 Ultra and Xiaomi 14 Ultra phones that support satellite connectivity.

In remote areas like the outdoors, forests, deserts, oceans, or mountains where traditional communication signals are unavailable, individuals can establish direct connections with satellites using their mobile phones for emergency communication. Satellite connectivity can be a very useful tool in such challenging environments.

According to reports, the Vivo X100 Ultra will have a 50-megapixel LYT-900 main camera with support for variable aperture and OIS. The camera setup is expected to include an ultra-wide lens, a telephoto camera, and a periscope telephoto camera. Especially, the latter is said to offer a 200-megapixel resolution with support for a 4.3x optical zoom, up to a 200x digital zoom, and a focal length of 100mm.

Apart from the Vivo X100 Ultra, the company is said to be working on the X100s series of smartphones. Reports suggest that the X100s and X100s Pro will come equipped with the upcoming Dimensity 9300+ chipset. It is likely that the X100 Ultra and X100s series may debut in May in China.

Lenovo has recently teased its 2024 YOGA Pro series of laptops in China. The series includes models like the YOGA Pro 14s High-Performance and the YOGA Pro 16s Supreme Edition. Both of these laptops come with some impressive hardware, especially the new Intel Core Ultra chips that offer up to 25% reduced power consumption while also offering powerful performance.

Additionally, they include Intel AI Boost technology, which is intended to speed up AI-dependent tasks like image and video editing, potentially offering up to 70% quicker performance in generative AI tasks. These laptops have a six-speaker system that supports Dolby Atmos and a PURESIGHT display. They also claim to have been tuned for professional creative software such as Photoshop and Premiere Pro.

Lenovo YOGA Pro 16s Supreme Edition

The YOGA Pro 16s Supreme Edition features a 16-inch 3200 x 2000 resolution 165Hz Mini LED touch display with a peak brightness of 1000 nits. The laptop will come with three GPU options, including NVIDIA’s RTX 4050, 4060, and 4070, which combined with the high-resolution high refresh rate display panel makes it more than capable of running modern AAA games. The Supreme Edition also has a 5MP webcam with face recognition for security and video calls. Depending on the spec, it offers an 84Wh battery, paired with a 100W / 170W power adapter.

Lenovo YOGA Pro 14s High-Performance

The high-performance model offers Core Ultra 5 125H / Ultra 7 155H / Ultra 9 185H CPU options paired with RTX 4050 / 4060 GPUs. It has 4 PCIe 4.0 slots for SSDs, and two RAM options: 16GB / 32GB LPDDR5x. Customers will get three display options, including a 14.5-inch 2.5K IPS panel, a 2.8K OLED OLED panel and a 3K IPS touch screen.

It has a 1080p webcam that also provides Face ID recognition. The battery onboard has a 73Wh capacity with a 100W / 140W power adapter depending on the model. Despite the beefy specs, it will be rather lightweight, weighing 1.49kg to 1.59kg depending on the model.

Thankfully, a Microsoft Linux developer, Andres Freund, stumbled upon the issue while investigating a suspicious 500-millisecond delay in SSH connections. He uncovered a malicious backdoor embedded within the XZ software itself.

At the time of writing, only four out of 63 security vendors on VirtusTotal are correctly flagging this exploit as harmful. This incident highlights the importance of vigilance, as many users might have overlooked the seemingly minor delay. It also brings to attention the potential vulnerability of open-source software to malicious actors.

If you’re concerned about your system’s safety, versions 5.6.0 and 5.6.1 of XZ Utils are confirmed to be compromised. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) recommends using older, verified versions of the software as a precaution.

Huawei’s plans for the P70 series launch have become shrouded in mystery following the reported cancellation of a press conference. Industry insiders suggest the phones could skip the traditional launch event altogether and join a “Pioneer Program” instead, potentially going on sale as early as today.

This news comes after Weibo tipster Bad Review Emperor sparked speculation by posting, “The press conference was suddenly canceled, and tickets were refunded to the media? What happened?” on social media.

There are also reports that authorized Huawei stores have begun accepting blind orders for the P70 series. While the official release timing remains unclear, this suggests the phones could be available very soon.

Leaks regarding the P70 series paint a picture of powerful hardware and innovative features. The recent Geekbench listings suggest that the Kirin 9000S chipset is expected to power the devices, with potentially different clock speeds for standard and high-end models. Both variations might boast stunning displays – a roughly 6.58-inch or 6.8-inch 2.5D 1.5K LTPO panel with a captivating quad-curved design.

On the camera front, rumors point towards either the OV50H or IMX989 sensor, both featuring a physical variable aperture. A 50MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 50MP 4x periscope telephoto lens could round out the impressive camera system. The devices are also expected to feature new satellite communication technology and a fresh exterior design.

This wouldn’t be the first time Huawei opted for an unconventional launch strategy. Last year’s Mate 60 Pro saw a quiet online release without a press conference. The Redmi 13 is Xiaomi’s new affordable phone. People were hoping for some improvements, like a better chip and camera, but it seems the Redmi 13 will be pretty similar to the Redmi 12. It’s confirmed to have a MediaTek Helio G88 chip. This info comes from Xiaomi’s HyperOS, so it’s reliable.

Internally, it’s called “moon” with model numbers “N19A/C/E/L.” The Redmi 12 had the model number “M19A,” so they’re following a pattern. The Redmi 13 will be sold globally and in India.

The model numbers like “2404ARN45A” and “2404ARN45I” tell us where the phone will be sold. Some versions will have NFC, while others won’t. For example, “24040RN64Y” is for the global market with NFC, while “2404ARN45A” is without NFC. The “2404ARN45I” is for India, and “24049RN28L” is for Latin America.
