Samsung has completed the One UI 8.0 rollout to its Galaxy devices and is now moving towards the release of its next iteration, One UI 8.5. This one is also based on Android 16, but it’s more than just an incremental upgrade. The beta program is already live, showcasing numerous improvements and some new features.
Unlike One UI x.1 updates, the beta availability for One UI 8.5 isn’t restricted to Galaxy Z smartphones. That means the update will reach a wider audience. Here’s everything you need to know about the One UI 8.5 beta program, including the eligible devices, supported regions, installation steps, and the new features.
One UI 8.5 beta update: List of eligible devices
The beta program supports these Galaxy devices:
Galaxy S25
Galaxy S25+
Galaxy S25 Ultra
The list is quite short at the moment, as the One UI 8.5 beta program has just kicked off. We hope to see the list getting bigger in the coming days and weeks.
Also, you’d notice that the Galaxy S25 FE and Galaxy S25 Edge are missing from the list. They will unlikely receive the beta update as Samsung restricts the beta program to the original three Galaxy S-series models.
We’ll update the list as and when the beta program extends to more Galaxy devices.
One UI 8.5 beta update: List of supported regions
Samsung has confirmed that the One UI 8.5 beta program will be available in select regions. These include:
Germany
India
Korea
Poland
The UK
The US
If you have an eligible Samsung device and live in one of these beta-supported regions, you can sign up for the beta program and get early access to the latest features and upgrades.
How to sign up for One UI 8.5 beta and install the update
To receive the beta update, you must first sign up for the beta program. The steps are simple as follows:
Open the Samsung Members app. If you don’t have it on your Galaxy device, get it from the Google Play Store.
Make sure you’re signed in to the app with your Samsung account.
Open the Samsung Members app and tap the One UI 8.5 beta program banner.
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your beta registration.
Once you’re enrolled in the beta program, follow these steps to download and install the beta update.
Open the Settings app on your Samsung device.
Go to Software update and tap Download and install.
Download the update.
Tap Install now to begin installation.
The installation can take a few minutes. The device should automatically boot into One UI 8.5 with all the latest features and improvements.
Note that the battery consumption may be higher in the initial few days as the device undergoes heavy background optimizations. You may need to charge your device more frequently during that period.
Here are the major upgrades in One UI 8.5
The beta update introduces a host of useful upgrades across the system. The Quick Panel has received significant improvements, now allowing users to change the layout, size, and even remove nearly everything. Every toggle can now be added, removed, reordered, or freely rearranged with far fewer restrictions. Brightness and volume can be split into independent sliders instead of a single combined control.
The lock screen gains an automatic layout for people/pet wallpapers. The clock and widgets on the lock screen are also adjusted automatically to work well with the background photo.
The first beta also improves Galaxy AI. Photo Assist now supports continuous AI editing and image generation, eliminating the need to save each step. So, you can keep working without interruption. Furthermore, the update enhances AI processing for images, text, and voice input in system apps such as Gallery and Notes.
One UI 8.5 allows you to browse and access files from other Galaxy phones, tablets, PCs, and select Samsung TVs directly in My Files. The Quick Share feature now allows you to enable file transfer only from devices logged in with your Samsung or Google accounts.
Samsung has also improved theft protection tools that automatically lock the device after repeated failed unlock attempts. Additionally, more sensitive settings are now protected by an identity verification feature, further strengthening the security.
One UI 8.5 beta also brings improvements to the battery usage information page, power saving mode, accessibility features, reminders, screen recording, and more.

The Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G has quietly made its way to Europe ahead of an official announcement. Before the official launch, the retailer has already listed the smartphone for orders, giving us a look at Xiaomi’s next mid range contender in the European market. The device seems to be getting some changes over its Chinese variant, so here are all the details.
Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G Quietly Listed in Europe
Ahead of the official release, the Chinese tech giant’s new mid range phone surfaced in an online retailer listing. The Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G model was spotted on the Smartmobil platform in Germany. So despite the global release being right around the corner, we got a look at the device’s design and a bunch of its key specs and features.
Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G
Looking at the online listing, the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G will arrive in three color options, namely Titanium (Gray), Glacier Blue, and Black. The overall look is identical to its Chinese counterpart with Corning’s Gorilla Glass Victus 2 for protection and an IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. The display is a tall 6.83-inch AMOLED panel with a 1.5K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 15 Pro 5G model in Europe is also equipped with the MediaTek Dimensity 7400 Ultra SoC, which could be paired with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. However, Xiaomi is apparently downgrading the battery capacity. The Redmi Note 15 Pro packs a massive 7,000mAh cell, but the European variant has a smaller (but still respectable) 6,580mAh battery.
Other notable features include a 200MP main camera, 8MP ultra wide angle lens, 20MP selfie shooter, a slim 7.78mm body, and 210 grams weight. This model will reportedly go on sale in Europe for around 399 Euros. So stick around for more.

Vivo‘s latest generation of premium smartphones has finally arrived in the global markets like India. The Vivo X300 series brings two compelling flagship choices to choose from, including the compact Vivo X300 (Review) and the top-of-the-line flagship Vivo X300 Pro. Both share similar features and hardware, but have distinct strengths. So here’s a quick breakdown to help you figure out which one makes more sense for you.
Both the X300 and X300 Pro are powered by MediaTek’s cutting edge 3nm Dimensity 9500 SoC. This is one of the fastest mobile chips in the market, bringing top tier CPU and GPU performance as well as upgrades to the AI processing power. Pairing the high end processor with the new OriginOS 6 (Android 16) custom skin, the phones feel snappy and smooth. But while the performance is similar, the actual feel of the devices is much different.
Where the experience diverges is in size, display, and ergonomics. The X300 packs a 6.31-inch 1.5K LTPO AMOLED display, making it compact, lighter (around 190g) and easier to handle with one hand. The X300 Pro ups the ante with a 6.78-inch panel, offering more screen real estate. This makes it ideal for media, gaming, and multitasking, but at the cost of size and heft (about 226g) and a larger footprint.
So if you prefer a lighter, more pocket friendly phone that’s easy to operate with one hand, the standard X300 is clearly the winner. Although, many see the value in larger screens and don’t mind a larger device in general. The X300 Pro is a clear choice for those who want a better watching experience with smartphones as well.
2. Camera
Vivo X300 Pro
Here’s where the differences get pretty apparent. Both smartphones carry an advanced camera setup with Zeiss lenses and tuning. However, the X300 Pro is one of the class leaders when it comes to photography. So here’s why:
Vivo X300: The standard model uses the 200MP Samsung HPB main camera (1/1.4″, OIS), along with a 50MP ultra wide angle lens, and a 50MP periscope telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom.
Vivo X300 Pro: Meanwhile, the Pro variant takes the X300’s main camera and turns it into a 3.5x 200MP periscope telephoto shooter. Even the primary sensor is a larger new 50MP sensor (1/1.28″). The ultra wide angle lens and selfie shooter remain the same.
So while the Vivo X300 still offers an all around good camera versatility and experience, the X300 Pro is simply the more powerful camera flagship. This is further enhanced by the telephoto extender kit.
3. Battery & Charging
Battery and charging are still impressive on the Vivo X300 series, but the larger body does give the Pro model slight advantages. The main difference is in battery capacity. The Vivo X300 houses a massive 6,040mAh cell, while the X300 Pro is powered by an even larger 6,510mAh battery. Both phones have 90W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging.
4. Which One Should You Choose?
Taking all of these factors into mind, let’s see which one suits you best:
Choose vivo X300 if you value compact size, easy one-handed use, balanced camera versatility, and a lower price. It’s the phone for someone who wants a flagship feel without a bulky device.
Choose vivo X300 Pro if you prioritise maximum imaging capabilities, a larger display, more battery capacity, and a “power user / camera enthusiast” experience.

Amazfit only introduced the Active 2 earlier this year, but it looks like the company has another model lined up before the year’s end.
A new leak from well-known tipster Roland Quandt has given us an early look at what appears to be the Amazfit Active Max, including renders and most of the core specifications.
Amazfit Active Max Specifications (Leak)
As you can see, the watch has a round dial with minimal display bezels and two buttons on the side. According to the leak, the Active Max will feature a 1.5-inch OLED display with a 480 x 480 pixel resolution.
The battery is where the biggest upgrade seems to be. The Active Max is rumored to house a 576mAh cell, the largest we’ve seen in the Amazfit Active lineup so far. And given that Amazfit’s proprietary OS already squeezes a solid 7-day endurance out of the 270mAh battery in the Active 2, it’s safe to expect an even longer runtime on the Max model.
Quandt also notes that it will feature a 50-metre water resistance rating. You can also expect standard connectivity options like Bluetooth 5.3, onboard GPS, and NFC. The watch will have 4 GB of internal storage for music or app data.
As for pricing, Quandt reports that Amazfit may launch the device at €169.90 in Europe. If Amazfit follows its usual pattern, a U.S. launch price of around $169.99 seems likely.
Amazfit hasn’t announced a launch date yet, but Qunadt likely pulled these details from an early retail listing. If that’s the case, the official debut probably isn’t too far off.

Motorola’s next stylus-toting mid-ranger and its updated Bluetooth tracker just leaked, giving us a first look at the Moto G Stylus 2026 and Moto Tag 2 months ahead of launch.
The images — published by Android Headlines — clear up the confusion from late last year, when a similar render was mistakenly linked to the wrong device. This time, the built-in stylus leaves no doubt: it’s the true Moto G Stylus successor.
At a glance, Motorola isn’t changing much. The camera layout is almost identical to the current model, and the overall design sticks to familiar lines. Two finishes are shown so far: a dark gray option and a soft lavender, with styluses that match the body color.
Specs weren’t shared with the leak, but given the current model’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and mid-range positioning, any upgrades this year are likely to be iterative rather than dramatic.
The Moto Tag 2 also appears in the leak in beige and bright orange. It looks a lot like the first-gen tracker, though the source claims Motorola has improved button feel and battery life. UWB support, IP67 protection, and compatibility with Google’s Find My Device network are all expected to remain.
Nothing groundbreaking here — but that might be the point. Motorola seems happy to refine what’s already working: a solid budget stylus phone and a reliable tracker that fits neatly into the Android ecosystem. For fans of the Moto G Stylus line, a quiet evolution could be just what they’re hoping for in 2026.
Redmi has confirmed the Redmi Note 15 5G launch date for India. Its landing page on Amazon states that the device will be announced on Jan. 6, 2026. The official teaser gives a quick look at the design and confirms the primary camera, setting the stage for what the brand appears to be positioning as a significant upgrade. More details are expected in the coming days as the company continues to share additional information.
Redmi Note 15 5G’s first teaser released
Redmi Note 15 launch date
The first Redmi Note 15 teaser for India highlights its side profile, hinting at a slim frame that aligns with what the brand typically aims for in the Note series. The teaser also confirms a 108-megapixel main camera, which is a notable step up from the previous generation.
While the teaser focuses largely on the silhouette and camera, it subtly suggests a refined build that could include a curved screen and possibly a metal frame.
Redmi Note 15 5G leaked specs
Redmi Note 15 5G
A leak from tipster Abhishek Yadav indicates that the global version of the Redmi Note 15 5G, including the Indian model, will differ from the variant introduced in China in August. Reports claim the device will come with a 6.83-inch AMOLED FHD Plus 120Hz display, a Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 chipset, up to 8GB RAM, 256GB of internal storage, and a 5,520mAh battery with 45W charging and
The leak further adds that the Redmi Note 15 Pro and Note 15 Pro Plus will not appear alongside the standard edition on January 6. Instead, both models may launch separately in February in India.
In related news, Xiaomi is said to be working on the global launch of the Xiaomi 17 series. Likely, the Xiaomi 17 and 17 Ultra will be announced in the first quarter of 2026 after the Note 15 Pro lineup. Before that, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra is expected to launch this month in China.

After Play Ultra, Lava is getting ready to launch Lava Play Max in India. The launch date is still a mystery, but Lava has started sharing early teasers of the phone via social media handles.
Lava Play Max uses the same chip as Play Ultra
The biggest confirmation so far is the chipset. The Play Max will run on the MediaTek Dimensity 7300. What’s interesting is that the Lava Play Ultra, launched back in August, also has the same Dimensity chip. So performance is not something that will differentiate two phones.
Lava is also equipping the device with 128GB of fast UFS 3.1 storage, along with 8GB of RAM plus 8GB of virtual RAM.
The company has already teased the Play Max in two colors — Black and White — along with a design that stays close to Lava’s recent clean, boxy look. There’s also a 50MP AI-backed main camera on the rear, and the brand is promising “next-gen” VC cooling too.
Beyond the official teasers, a tipster has added a few more expected specs. The phone is said to feature a 6.72-inch FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate, Android 15 out of the box, and a price tag that will likely sit under ₹12,000. There may also be a 6GB RAM variant.
There’s no word from Lava on the launch, but judging by how frequently the brand is posting teasers, the Play Max seems very close to release. Rumors say the phone will launch in December itself. Also, it will be interesting to see how the Play Max and Play Ultra will differentiate themselves, now that the chip is the same.

When shopping for a flagship smartphone in late 2025, you want the best value for your money. Advancements in technology ensure you get advanced cameras, high end performance, and a smooth user experience overall once you decide to spend enough for a premium phone. But if you don’t wish to go all out with the purchase, the Vivo X300 and Apple iPhone 17 are great options in the base flagship categories. So here’s a breakdown to help choose the phone that’s “right” for you and not simply the “best” pick.
Both devices offer cutting edge performance thanks to the latest generation of chipsets. The Vivo X300 boasts MediaTek’s latest and greatest Dimensity 9500 SoC that promises great performance that can handle everyday use and even intense gaming. But the iPhone 17 is no slouch either; the Apple A19 is still one of the most powerful mobile chips. So the two are quite comparable in gaming, daily use, and efficiency.
But battery life and charging do give the Vivo X300 a major edge. It is powered by a massive 6,040mAh battery pack that supports 90W wired fast charging and 40W wireless fast charging. This capacity is nearly double that of the iPhone 17. Despite Apple’s tight optimization thanks to its closed ecosystem and in-house hardware, the X300 simply wins in this regard. Charging speeds on the iPhone 17 are still glacial, around 25W for wired and 15W for wireless.
In the past, even budget phones had a better usability experience when compared to the base iPhones due to one big aspect: the refresh rate. While the smartphone world moved to 120Hz as a standard, this feature was oddly exclusive to the Pro iPhones only. Apple has finally brought this “high-end” feature to the standard iPhone 17, greatly improving the user experience now.
2. Photography
Apple iPhone 17
If photography or content creation matters to you, the X300 has another major advantage on paper. It offers a triple rear setup with a 200MP main camera (OIS, 1/1.4″, a 50MP ultra wide angle lens (1/2.76″) and a 50MP periscope telephoto shooter (1/1.95″, 3x optical zoom, OIS). For selfies and video calls, you also get a 50MP shooter with autofocus.
Pair this with Zeiss lenses and tuning, Vivo’s new flagships are one of the best camera smartphones in the market. Vivo has even improved the videography on this device, which also brings 4K/120fps recording support.
Apple’s iPhone 17, on the other hand, has a more humble camera offering with a dual 48MP camera for the main (1/1.56″, OIS) and ultra wide (1/2.55″), with the front housing an 18MP selfie shooter with autofocus.
Despite the smaller sensor size, this device is still quite competent in everyday photography. While the X300 does have a slight advantage in low light scenarios, the iPhone 17 brings great consistency. With the iPhone, you also get great video recording, which is just superior to any other Android brand in the market.
3. Ecosystem & Long Term Experience
This is where iPhone 17’s advantages show up clearly. If you’ve already invested in Apple’s ecosystem, like the Mac, iPad, AirPods, and more, the iPhone 17 will integrate seamlessly. Meanwhile, the Vivo X300 has a custom Android skin that allows for better customization and freedom of choice. Recently, Chinese brands like Vivo have also made great progress in cross platform integration with Apple. But the experience is still not flawless. Furthermore, Apple’s longer software support is another plus when you’re considering buying an expensive device.
4. So, Which Should You Buy?
Pick Vivo X300 if you want a feature-packed phone with excellent battery life, versatile cameras, fast charging, and Android freedom. It is ideal for power users, creators, and anyone who values flexibility.
Pick iPhone 17 if you prefer a polished, consistent user experience, a mature software ecosystem with long update support, and smooth integration with other Apple devices. Creators who make videos also benefit from the class leading video performance, while the device is basically great for general users.

For years, the biggest obstacle to scaling AI was simple: there weren’t enough GPUs to go around. According to Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella, that era has quietly ended. Speaking alongside OpenAI’s Sam Altman on the Bg2 podcast, Nadella delivered a surprising update: Microsoft is no longer chip-supply constrained. The new ceiling for AI progress isn’t silicon – it’s electricity.
Nadella revealed that Microsoft currently has accelerators sitting in inventory that literally cannot be powered on. You can “have a bunch of chips sitting in inventory” waiting for data center space that is fully connected to the grid, he said. The bottleneck has shifted from securing Nvidia GPUs to finding “warm shells” – ready-built data centers located near sufficient grid capacity.
The change marks a dramatic pivot for the industry. Just 12–24 months ago, headlines were dominated by GPU shortages and multi-year waiting lists. Today, the limiting factor is local power grids, lengthy permitting processes, and the sheer volume of electricity required to run modern AI clusters at scale. Some new hyperscale facilities already consume as much power as small cities, and the demand curve shows no sign of flattening.
This reality is forcing cloud giants into entirely new strategies: locking in decades-long power purchase agreements, exploring on-site generation options, and even investing in small modular nuclear reactors (SMRs) to guarantee future capacity. The race is no longer just about who can buy the most chips – it’s about who can secure the megawatts needed to switch them on.
Nadella’s message underscores a broader truth for the AI industry: the physical infrastructure of the digital age is hitting hard limits. Investors, policymakers, and energy providers are now as critical to the next wave of AI breakthroughs as chip designers once were. According to Microsoft’s CEO, the GPU war is over. The battle for reliable, scalable power has only just begun.

ByteDance and ZTE are developing a second-generation Agentic AI, Doubao phone, for a planned late-2026 launch.
The first AI phone sold out quickly but was limited to around 30,000 units as an engineering test.
ByteDance aims to expand Doubao AI across third-party smartphones rather than build its own hardware long-term.
The company’s OS-level agentic AI ambitions position it as a potential challenger to Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi, and other major smartphone ecosystems.
Early Prototype Sold Out After Limited Release
ByteDance’s first AI-powered smartphone, built with ZTE and running the company’s Doubao agentic assistant, sold out rapidly in China. The device, ZTE Nubia M153, was marketed as an engineering prototype rather than a commercial product. According to industry sources, the initial batch consisted of roughly 30,000 units, designed mainly to test real-world performance. Despite the limited supply, consumer interest was strong, with resale prices rising more than 40% above retail.
Why ByteDance Released a Prototype Instead of a Full Product
The company intentionally treated the first phone as a market experiment. The goal was to evaluate Doubao’s system-level automation, including cross-app operations such as ticket booking, restaurant reservations, price comparison, and complex task coordination. The feedback from this early batch will inform the design and capabilities of future devices.
App Restrictions After Privacy and Control Concerns
Shortly after launch, the phone faced nationwide pushback from major Chinese apps. Several high-usage platforms blocked or limited the Doubao assistant, citing concerns over fairness, data access, and the device’s ability to control apps at an OS level. This reflected growing industry unease about agentic AI performing actions across apps without traditional API permissions, an issue that drew wide scrutiny in earlier reporting.
New Second-Gen AI Phone Targeted for Late 2026
ByteDance and ZTE are now jointly developing a second-generation smartphone, with a planned launch window in late 2026. This upcoming version is reportedly more mature in both hardware and AI integration. The shift to next-generation development has led to the halt of production for the current prototype.

ByteDance’s Long-Term Hardware Strategy
Despite entering the smartphone market with these early models, ByteDance says it does not plan to become a long-term phone manufacturer. Instead, it wants Doubao to operate as an OS-level AI layer that other smartphone makers can adopt. However, analysts at Morgan Stanley and IDC warn that partnering with major OEMs may be challenging, as brands like Apple, Huawei, and Xiaomi are expected to rely on their own AI systems.
Why ByteDance Is Entering the AI Phone Market
ByteDance, best known worldwide for TikTok and its Chinese counterpart Douyin, is not a traditional hardware company. Its push into AI phones is driven by the need to test and scale agentic AI directly at the operating-system level. Working with partners like ZTE allows ByteDance to control the device environment, sharpen Doubao’s automation features, and demonstrate its capabilities to potential OEM collaborators, all without any plan to become a permanent phone manufacturer.
Future Opportunities and Challenges
IDC predicts ByteDance may struggle to secure top-tier hardware partners by 2026, potentially limiting Doubao’s reach despite 159 million MAUs. Still, the company sees strong opportunities for app developers and enterprise vendors, particularly in e-commerce, travel, payments, and food delivery sectors that can benefit from Doubao’s cross-app orchestration.
On the other hand, ByteDance’s Volcano Engine, already handling nearly half of China’s public-cloud LLM API calls, positions the company well for broader AI ecosystem expansion.
Xiaomi looks ready to go big with its next mid-range lineup. Multiple retailer listings in Europe have now confirmed that at least five REDMI Note 15 models are headed to global markets.
The lineup now confirmed for international release includes:
REDMI Note 15 4G
REDMI Note 15 Pro 4G
REDMI Note 15 5G
REDMI Note 15 Pro 5G
REDMI Note 15 Pro+ 5G
The latest sighting comes from German retailer Sim.de, which has put up the REDMI Note 15 5G for €299 (~$350) in a 6 GB + 128 GB configuration — complete with pre-order availability. The listing matches the version launched in China earlier this year, packing a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, a 6.77-inch 120 Hz AMOLED display, and a 108 MP main camera inherited from its REDMI Note 14 5G predecessor.
There are a few regional differences, though. The global model drops to a 5,520 mAh battery and carries IP65 resistance instead of IP68. It also ships with HyperOS 2, rather than the newer HyperOS 3 rolling out in China. Still, at 178 g, the phone remains a relatively lightweight option for its class.
What’s most surprising is timing: Xiaomi typically waits until late Q1 for its major global Note launches, but with both the Note 15 5G and Note 15 Pro 5G already spotted in EU retailer systems, the refresh could land far earlier than expected.
For anyone eyeing an upgrade from the REDMI Note 14 lineup or an older REDMI Note series phone, this wave of listings leaves little doubt — a full five-model REDMI Note 15 push is coming to global shelves soon.

Chinese open-source AI models have surged to nearly 30% of global usage, up from just 1% a year earlier.
Major U.S. tech leaders and startups are adopting Chinese models due to lower costs, fast iteration, and strong performance.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang warns that China’s rapid infrastructure growth and energy capacity give it a structural advantage in AI scaling.
A new set of industry reports shows that Chinese open-source large language models (LLMs) are reshaping the global AI landscape. Once considered secondary players, Chinese models have now reached almost 30% of worldwide usage and are gaining traction among developers, startups, and major companies in the U.S.
Explosive Growth in Global Adoption
Chinese open-source models grew from just 1.2% of global usage in late 2024 to nearly 30% in 2025, according to a study covering 100 trillion tokens. While Western proprietary systems such as OpenAI’s GPT-4o and GPT-5 still dominate with about 70% market share, Chinese models now match the usage of all other non-Chinese open-source models combined.
Key drivers include Alibaba’s Qwen series, DeepSeek V3, and Moonshot AI’s Kimi K2, all of which have seen rapid update cycles and widespread adoption among developers worldwide.
Strong Endorsements From Silicon Valley
Several high-profile U.S. technology leaders are publicly shifting toward Chinese LLMs. Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky said the company prefers Alibaba’s Qwen because it is “fast and cheap.” Investor Chamath Palihapitiya also moved key workflows to Moonshot’s Kimi K2, calling it more performant than alternatives.
On platforms such as Hugging Face and OpenRouter, Chinese models now dominate trending charts and usage rankings, replacing many U.S. systems.
Why Startups Prefer Chinese AI
Cost is a major factor. Chinese models often operate at one-fifth the price of Western models. MiniMax’s M2, for instance, offers performance similar to Claude Sonnet 4.5 at just 8% of the cost.
Open-weight licensing is another benefit, allowing companies to access model weights, fine-tune systems, and build custom versions more easily than with closed U.S. models. Alibaba reports more than 170,000 derivative models built on Qwen alone.
Geopolitical Concerns and Regulatory Tensions
The surge of Chinese AI tools has sparked debate in Washington. U.S. authorities warn of potential security risks associated with foreign AI systems, placing firms such as Zhipu AI on trade blacklists. Analysts say the rise of Chinese open-source AI could challenge long-standing U.S. dominance if current trends continue.
Despite concerns, a recent global survey shows 82% of users would adopt Chinese models if hosted outside China, indicating broad openness to using these systems.
China’s Infrastructure Advantage Raises Alarms
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang recently warned that China’s ability to build AI infrastructure “at unbelievable speed” is a strategic advantage. He noted that China has double the energy capacity of the U.S., with much faster growth.
Massive nationwide data-center construction, supported by low-cost energy and government initiatives, is accelerating the country’s AI expansion.
Rapidly Shifting AI Balance
With competitive performance, lower prices, and fast iteration, Chinese models are becoming central to global AI development. Industry experts say the momentum marks a shift toward a two-superpower AI race, with China emerging as a formidable peer to the United States.
Smartphones with compact footprints often come with compromises. You usually get a smaller battery, trimmed-down camera features, or lower display specs just to squeeze everything into a sub-6.4-inch body. But the Vivo X300 flips that narrative. It’s compact, yes, with a 6.31-inch display, but the rest of its spec sheet reads like a full-sized flagship. That’s what makes it stand out in 2025’s crowded compact flagship space.
The first thing that sets the Vivo X300 apart is its 6.31-inch LTPO OLED panel with symmetrical 1.05mm bezels on all sides. Even Apple’s iPhone 17 and Xiaomi 17, both compact contenders, don’t offer this kind of uniformity.
Apple finally added 120Hz ProMotion to its base iPhone, but Vivo goes further with a variable refresh range from 1Hz to 120Hz, 2160Hz PWM dimming, full DC-like dimming, and a local peak brightness of 4500 nits. This is brighter than the Xiaomi 17’s 3500 nits and significantly ahead of the Galaxy S25’s 2600 nits.
Under the hood, the X300 packs MediaTek’s new Dimensity 9500 chip, built on a 3nm process and scoring over 4 million on AnTuTu 11. That performance bracket is similar to the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 inside the Xiaomi 17.
Unlike the Pixel 10 Pro, which still lags slightly in GPU-intensive tasks with the Tensor G5, the Vivo X300 delivers flagship-level performance without thermal throttling. It also stays cool thanks to an advanced vapor chamber setup.
2. Cameras built for serious results
Here’s where the X300 starts to flex. It doesn’t just throw in a few decent cameras to check the box. It includes a 200MP Samsung HPB primary sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide shooter, and a 50MP Sony LYT602 periscope telephoto camera with telemacro. That’s a three-lens stack tuned for both zoom and close-ups, with Zeiss optics and the same V3+ imaging chip used in the Pro model.
Compare this to the iPhone 17, which still settles for a dual-camera setup with a 48MP main and ultra-wide. Or the Galaxy S25, which has a 50MP main sensor, but smaller auxiliary sensors and no periscope zoom. Even Xiaomi’s Leica-branded setup on the 17, while solid with its Light Fusion 950 sensor, doesn’t match the sheer resolution or telephoto macro versatility the X300 brings.
Vivo also sells a 2.35x Zeiss teleconverter that clips onto the camera module. It features 13 high-transparency glass elements and ultra-low dispersion coatings. No other compact phone offers anything close to this level of optical flexibility.
3. Big battery in a light body
Despite being smaller and thinner than many of its rivals, the Vivo X300 still manages to pack a 6040mAh battery. It doesn’t match the sheer size of the Xiaomi 17’s 7000mAh cell, but it’s still significantly larger than most other compact phones in its class.
The Pixel 10 Pro comes with a 4870mAh battery, while the iPhone 17 is estimated to have around 3692mAh. The X300 delivers that capacity in a slim 7.95mm body and a manageable 190g weight, which makes the battery-to-weight ratio particularly impressive.
Charging is just as capable. The phone supports 90W wired charging, 40W wireless charging, and reverse wireless charging. Samsung’s 25W wired charging on the base Galaxy S25 falls far behind in comparison.
4. Compact size without compromise
Vivo doesn’t skimp on materials or extras. You still get an ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor, IP68 and IP69 dual certification for dust and water resistance, stereo speakers, and support for the latest wireless standards like Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.
There’s even an infrared sensor, something Google and Apple continue to ignore, and support for NavIC, making it one of the most complete compact devices for India and other supported regions.
5. The Takeaway
In a world where compact phones often feel like stripped-down versions of their bigger siblings, the Vivo X300 feels more like a compressed flagship without compromises.
It is a rare Android phone that delivers strong camera capabilities, battery life, and a premium display in a form factor that fits comfortably in the hand. If you’ve been waiting for a compact phone that doesn’t ask you to settle, the X300 is worth a serious look.
