Nintendo to launch new Switch Pro later this year with 4K support

Over the last couple of months, there have been rumors regarding Nintendo launching a new Switch console model. This variant will likely be called the Switch Pro, however, there has been no official word so far. But a new report has suggested that this model might be launched later this year.

The company has officially stated that it is not working on a Switch Pro model. However, a tweet from Pixelpar has claimed otherwise. For those unaware, the Switch has been a popular handheld gaming console in the market, but many users have also wanted a more powerful version for a while now. So, the Pro model would likely be a great addition to the Switch series.

As per the leak, the Switch Pro will be launching sometime near the end of this year. The tipster added that the new model will support current cartridges and even feature a similar form factor as the original Switch. Although, the Pro model is rumored to offer better performance overall. The Switch Pro is also expected to launch with a larger display and support for 4K output when docked.

The upcoming handheld console will also reportedly feature more RAM and a new Nvidia Tegra chipset. A recent leak has claimed that the Switch Pro could be revealed in September 2022. The rear of the smartphones has that same iconic semi-transparent look with a few tweaks. The Red Magic 7S has a strip-like camera module with cameras aligned linearly. Whereas the Pro model has a rectangular camera island with cameras arranged in a squircle fashion. Next to the camera module, you’ll find the fan-favorite cooling fan that comes with RGB lights.

To keep the phone cool during heavy gaming, the company has equipped the smartphone with ICE 9.0 liquid-cooling technology. Moreover, the device also has a built-in fan that can circulate air at speed of up to 20,000RPM.

Additionally, the smartphone is equipped with a Magic GPU stable frame engine that supports rendering and imaging synchronization, a five-fold rendering buffer, and intelligent recognition of TC supplementary frames.

It’s not a photography-focused phone but still has some decent camera specs. The device is equipped with a triple rear camera setup consisting of a 64MP primary camera accompanied by an 8MP wide-angle lens and a 2MP macro lens along with an LED Flash. At the front, the handset offers an 8MP under-display camera sensor for selfies and video calls. The gaming phone is backed up by a 4,500mAh battery with 120W fast charging support. Talking about the software, the Red Magic 7S runs Red Magic 5.0 based on Android 12.

Red Magic 7S Pro Specifications

The Red Magic 7S Pro is the higher-end model and has features similar to the Standard model. The device houses the same 6.8-inch AMOLED display but with a 120Hz refresh rate. The smartphone is equipped with Red Magic x Qualcomm LTM dimming technology.

Red Magic 7S Pro

The 7S Pro is also powered by the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, but it also has the company’s proprietary Red Core 1 which is a dedicated gaming chipset for enhancing the performance of the device. The smartphone comes with an advanced Ice 10.0 cooling system.

The rear camera sensors on the Red Magic 7 Pro are the same as the standard variant, however, it has an upgraded 16-megapixel selfie camera. The Nubia Red Magic 7S Pro is fueled by an increased 5,000mAh battery and supports a higher 135W fast charging support. It comes with a standard 165W gallium nitride charging head. The smartphone runs Red Magic 5.0 based on Android 12.

Red Magic 7S Pro is also launched in a special transformer edition model. The special edition model will have a transformer-inspired design. It will match the iconic appearance of Bumblebee. In addition, the device will come in a special hexagonal-shaped retail box and will pack a Bumblebee-inspired external cooler, a protective cover, and a few other accessories.

Apple iPhone 14 series may see $100 price hike over last gen iPhone 13

A new report from an analyst has suggested that the upcoming Apple iPhone 14 series might be the most expensive iPhone lineup ever. Apparently, the company’s iPhone 14 will be over 100 US Dollars more expensive than the iPhone 13 series.

Apple
iPhone 14 Series prototypes

Recently, we reported on the Cupertino based giant’s latest iPhones will see a price hike over its predecessor. And now, it seems like we have a better idea as to how high the prices may rise. For those unaware, the iPhone 13 lineup started from 699 US Dollars for the 5.4 inch iPhone 13 mini. Meanwhile, the base iPhone 13 started from 799 US Dollars. The iPhone 13 Pro and Pro Max had a price tag of 999 and 1,099 US Dollars.

Dan Ives from Wedbush Securities told The Sun that “a $100 price increase is coming for the iPhone 14.” If this information is true, there are likely many reasons for the possible price hike. This includes rising raw materials, supply constraints, and other economic reasons as well. Since the iPhone mini is being discontinued for the iPhone 14 Max, the iPhone 14 series may start from 899 US Dollars for the base iPhone 14.

Apple

As of right now, it is unclear if this price hike is confirmed or not, and it’s still possible that Apple may have different plans. CCS Insight’s Ben Wood claims that the increasing production and component costs may likely be the reason behind a rise in the price tag but the brand might not hike costs by such a margin due to the cost of living. The news is still unconfirmed so take this report with a pinch of salt and stay tuned for more updates.

The leaked image for the unboxing was shared on Twitter by DahodianTechie. Looking at the image shared on the tweet, the company plans on offering the smartphone with a transparent protective cover, which we had also previously reported on. Although the previous leak was for a translucent case, so the brand might ship the clear care with the white color model and the smoked one with the black color variant.

Smart wearables market to boom in second-half of 2022

The second half of this year will see Meta, the largest VR device supplier, and Apple, the leader in smartwatches, release new wearables. We can also expect new products to be released by companies like Xiaomi and Samsung. So, the wearable device market will be a significant new battleground in the second half of the year, in addition to smartphones.

Apple

According to one of the industry insiders, Taiwan Economic Daily (via IThome), the market for wearable devices as a whole is still expanding and that major brands won’t give up easily. It’s anticipated that companies like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, and even Meta will keep announcing new products. Its primary goal is to increase brand value and sell more ancillary services rather than hardware per se.

In a report by the research firm IDC, 530 million wearable devices will be shipped worldwide in 2021, a 20 percent increase from the previous year. The majority of the items sent are wristbands and watches. Apple has a significant advantage over its rivals when it comes to smartwatches. Apple Watch had a market share of 35% in the fourth quarter of last year, Xiaomi came in second with 8.6%, and Samsung came in third with 7.9%. About 6.7 percent of the market is taken by Huawei.

According to IDC statistics, 11.23 million AR/VR headsets were shipped globally last year, an increase of 92.1 percent year over year in terms of VR devices. One of them saw the first shipment of VR equipment surpassing 10 million units, coming in at 10.95 million. VR equipment shipments are anticipated to increase by 43.6 percent year over year to 15.73 million units this year. Among them, Meta, a top manufacturer of VR equipment, has an 80 percent market share for Oculus, which is significantly higher than that of other rivals.

Meta AR Glasses Teaser

Industry experts were quoted in the report as saying that since there weren’t many new wearable devices released in the first half of this year, new products released in the second half of the year are expected to attract buyers. However, if the global inflation problem continues to negatively impact the overall economy, sales of wearable devices may be discounted, and the follow-up market still needs to be closely observed.

The shipments of 23.6 million units for Samsung indicate a decline of 1.2 percent year-on-year as the company had shipped 74.5 million units in the first quarter of 2021.

Apple has grabbed the second position with an 18 percent market share and total shipments of 56.6 million iPhones from January to March this year. Unlike Samsung, Apple grew its shipments by 2.2 percent in the first quarter of this year.

Xiaomi, OPPO, and Vivo come in at third, fourth, and fifth positions respectively. Vivo had a market share of 8.1 percent as the company shipped 25.3 million units.

Xiaomi’s 200W charger 3C certified, Xiaomi MIX 5 may support 200W fast charging

In May 2021, Xiaomi announced its 200W wired and 120W wireless HyperCharge technology. While there is no update on the 120W wireless tech, it seems that Xiaomi may soon launch a new smartphone with 200W HyperCharge technology. The reason is that Xiaomi’s 200W charger has received approval from the 3C authority of China.

As seen in the screengrab below, a new power adapter with model number MDY-13-EU has bagged certification from China’s 3C regulatory body. The certification reveals that the new Xiaomi charger supports maximum charging speeds of 20V / 10A (200W). It is backwards compatible with 5V3A, 9V3A, 11V6A, and 17V10A charging. The 3C certification is a good hint that Xiaomi may soon launch a phone with 200W fast charging support in the coming weeks.

Xiaomi 200W

Xiaomi’s 200W HyperCharge technology promises to charge a smartphone in less than 10 minutes. Earlier this year, Xiaomi demoed its 200W charging solution on the Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra, which houses a 4,500mAh battery. A 200W charger can charge a smartphone with a 4,000mAh battery to 50 percent capacity in 3 minutes, and a full charge takes another 5 minutes.

While it is unclear when exactly Xiaomi will announce a smartphone with 200W charging support, iQOO is all set to become the world’s first smartphone to launch a phone with 200W charging support. iQOO has recently confirmed the upcoming iQOO 10 will support 120W fast charging, whereas the iQOO 10 Pro will arrive with 200W fast charging technology.

Xiaomi is expected to launch the Xiaomi MIX 5 flagship phone in the second half of this year. Last year’s Xiaomi MIX 4 carried support for 120W charging. Hence, it remains to be seen whether the MIX 5 will be made available with 200W HyperCharge technology.

Leaked image reveals Nubia’s next Z-series flagship phone with flat display, ultra-thin bezels

In February 2021, Nubia announced the Nubia Z40 Pro flagship phone, featuring a curved-edge OLED display and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Last month, the Nubia President confirmed that it would be releasing a new Z-series phone in July. It claimed that the device will set a new benchmark in the flat screen segment. It is unclear whether it will arrive in the market with the Nubia Z40 or Z50 moniker. Now, a leaked image of an upcoming Z-series flagship is now doing the rounds on Weibo (via).

Nubia flagship with flat display

The alleged next-generation Z-series Nubia phone that has appeared in a leaked image reveals a flat display with ultra-thin bezels. The device, which is held in landscape orientation, has a very thin bottom bezel. The upper bezel is not clearly visible since it is covered by the finger.

It seems that the device is equipped with symmetrical bezels on all four sides. It probably features a centrally positioned punch-hole for the selfie camera. Whatever the device will be called, it is likely to come equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 mobile platform. Unfortunately, there is no information available on the other specifications of the device.

According to tipster Digital Chat Station, the company will collaborate with another company to launch an anime-based custom edition of the device. To recall, the Chinese manufacturer had announced the Nubia Z40 Pro Outcast Limited Edition, which was themed after “The Outcast” anime.

The Nubia Z40 Pro came with specs like a 6.67-inch AMOLED FHD+ 144Hz display, a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chip, up to 16 GB of RAM, up to 1 TB of storage, and a 5,000mAh battery with 66W charging support. It came with a 16-megapixel front camera, and a 64-megapixel (main) + 50-megapixel (ultra-wide) + 8-megapixel (telephoto) triple rear cameras. It is likely that the next Z-series Nubia flagship may borrow some of its specs from the Z40 Pro.

Galaxy S23’s Exynos 2300 variant seemingly axed, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 edition likely to release in all markets

Samsung is known for offering its flagship phones in Snapdragon and Exynos variants depending on the market. Countries like the US and China have been receiving the Snapdragon variant, while the European countries have been treated to the Exynos edition. When the Snapdragon and Exynos versions of Samsung’s flagship phones were put side by side, it was clear that Exynos was less powerful than Qualcomm’s chip. A new leak from well-known supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shows that there won’t be an Exynos version of the Galaxy S23 line.

According to Kuo, the Galaxy S23’s sole chipset supplier could be Qualcomm. It will be equipped with the next flagship chipset that has an SM8550 part number. It will be built with TSMC’s 4nm manufacturing process. It is most likely to carry the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 marketing name.

While Samsung could be working on the 4nm Exynos 2300, the Galaxy S23 may not adopt the SoC. Kuo claims the reason behind it is that the Exynos 2300 cannot compete with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in all aspects. According to the analyst, the US-based chip maker has designed the SD8G2 to meet the design guidelines of TSMC.

The SD8G2 is expected to offer better computing power and power efficiency than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. Kuo added that Qualcomm “will gain more market share in the high-end market in 2023.” Since the recession does not affect the high-end market much, Qualcomm and TSMC will significantly benefit from the market share.

In April, Samsung Mobile President TM Roh said that the company is working on a unique processor for Galaxy smartphones. It is unclear how different it will be from the company’s in-house Exynos chipsets.
