Casio lists four new Baby-G watches with a square digital display

Casio’s Baby-G lineup is getting a fresh splash of color and customization, with a new set of square-display digital watches landing in Japan. The four-model collection brings back the retro charm of classic digital Casio watches but adds a twist aimed at younger buyers: the watches can pop off the strap and transform into bag charms. The new quartet falls under the Baby-G BGD-10KH series, available now for pre-order in Japan. The next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 allegedly has standard and Pro models

Qualcomm just can’t seem to settle on what to call its flagship processors. After rebranding its top-tier chip earlier this year as the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, the company might shuffle things around yet again, and somehow, it’s getting even more confusing.

According to a new leak from reliable Weibo tipster Digital Chat Station, next year’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 will reportedly come in two versions: a standard model and a Pro variant.

That means the true successor to the current 8 Elite Gen 5 will technically be the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, while the non-Pro version will likely be a slightly watered-down version sharing most of the same specs.

If you trace Qualcomm’s naming history, the confusion starts to make sense (sort of). Back in 2022, the company kicked off its new convention with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, which was normally followed by the 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3. But in 2024, Qualcomm decided to rename its flagship line to Snapdragon 8 Elite, only to tweak it again in 2025 to Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5.

To make things worse, Qualcomm is still planning to launch a Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 as a sub-flagship chip later this year. And now, adding a “Pro” to the flagship lineup just makes the whole thing even murkier.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 / Pro specs

As to what the upcoming chips might bring, both will reportedly be manufactured using TSMC’s N2P process and feature Qualcomm’s third-generation custom CPU architecture with a 2+3+3 core setup.

According to the leak, the two versions will differ mainly in GPU capabilities, and only the Pro variant is expected to support LPDDR6 memory.

A separate report claims that the new manufacturing process and faster memory could drive up production costs, which might translate to even pricier flagship phones by 2027.

Xiaomi launches Smart Gas Water Heater 2 Silent Zero Cold Water 16L in China

Xiaomi’s smart home lineup continues to expand in China, this time with a new gas water heater that aims to deliver quieter operation, instant hot water, and tighter integration with HyperOS-connected homes. The company has now introduced a next-generation model built to be more compact and more precise than its predecessor — without sacrificing power.

Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Smart Gas Water Heater 2 Silent Zero Cold Water 16L Edition, a follow-up to the earlier Mijia Gas Water Heater S1. The new version focuses heavily on noise reduction and temperature stability.

As the name implies, Xiaomi is pitching silence as a key selling point. The heater uses nine-layer noise reduction technology and carries CHCT Level-1 Acoustic Quality Certification, which essentially means it has been tested to operate more quietly than typical gas-powered systems. Despite the emphasis on silence, Xiaomi says it has not compromised on performance: the heater promises instant hot water and maintains a steady temperature thanks to a dual-drive water servo system that keeps fluctuations within 0.3°C.

Users can choose from four heating modes — timed, water-controlled, manual, and connected — depending on their routine. The connected mode is where Xiaomi’s ecosystem advantage comes in. The heater supports HyperOS Connect, allowing it to communicate with other Xiaomi smart devices. For instance, homeowners could automate hot water to start flowing when a Xiaomi smart lock is unlocked or manage temperature settings directly through the Xiaomi Home app.

Another highlight is the heater’s size. With dimensions of 520 × 360 × 172 mm, Xiaomi claims the new model is 21% smaller than the previous generation, making it easier to install in tighter spaces or modern apartments where every centimeter counts.

First Dimensity 9500e and 8500-powered phones are arriving early next year

The flagship phone battle in China is almost settled for this year. What comes next is a wave of sub-flagship models to be powered by the up-and-coming chips from Qualcomm and MediaTek.

Qualcomm is set to unveil the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 later this year, and phones powered by it will start showing up soon after. A new leak has now given us a tentative timeframe for the launch of MediaTek’s counterpart.

MediaTek is reportedly working on two smartphone chips: the Dimensity 8500 and Dimensity 9500e. And according to tipster Digital Chat Station, the first phones powered by these chips will not launch until January next year. These phones are also said to have flagship-level specifications and large batteries.

What we know so far

As you might have guessed, the Dimensity 9500e is the more powerful of the two, running at up to 3.73GHz. It reportedly uses a CPU setup of 1× Cortex-X925, 3× Cortex-X4, and 4× Cortex-A720 cores.

The GPU is said to be an Arm G925 MP12 clocked at 1612MHz, and the chip is built on TSMC’s advanced 3nm N3E process.

Meanwhile, the Dimensity 8500 is designed for slightly more affordable phones but still carries a punch. It’s reportedly based on TSMC’s 4nm process and uses an 8-core setup built around ARM’s A725 architecture — meaning all cores are “big” cores.

The prime core is said to reach 3.4GHz, a small but notable bump from the 3.25GHz seen in its predecessor, the Dimensity 8400. Graphics performance could also get a lift thanks to a Mali-G720 GPU tuned to around 1.5GHz. The Dimensity 8500 reportedly scores around 2.2 million points on AnTuTu.

MediaTek absolutely owns AnTuTu’s mid-range ranking for October

If you thought Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 flex in the flagship charts this month was impressive, wait till you see what happened in the mid-range segment.

AnTuTu also shared its October 2025 list of the top 10 Android mid-range phones recently, and MediaTek has officially locked down the entire leaderboard. Every single phone in the ranking is powered by a Dimensity chip. Yes, all ten.

Leading the pack is Realme’s Neo7 SE, running the Dimensity 8400-Ultra, with a beefy average score of 1,931,641. Following right behind are the iQOO Z10 Turbo and Vivo Y300 GT, both using the standard Dimensity 8400 chip, scoring 1,915,499 and 1,909,184, respectively.

It’s all Dimensity from top to bottom

Fourth place goes to the Redmi Turbo 4, again rocking a Dimensity 8400-Ultra at 1,868,587 points. After that, the list starts mixing in slightly different Dimensity flavors.

Oppo’s Reno 14 series grabs fifth and sixth place with the Dimensity 8350 and Dimensity 8450. Rounding out the top 10 are phones like the Motorola Edge 60 Pro and OPPO K13 Turbo 5G, all sticking with Team MediaTek.

Every device in the top 10 crosses 1.28 million points, which tells how strong the upper-midrange category has become. To say the least, these scores are similar to the flagship phones of 2022 / 2023.

It’s absolutely surprising that not even a single Snapdragon-powered phone has made it to the top 10 list. Qualcomm’s direct rival to the Dimensity 8400 is the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 / Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. However, MediaTek’s adoption is clearly much higher in the mid-range segment, and it’s clearly winning there.

It’s also worth noting how AnTuTu calculates its rankings. Instead of reporting one best benchmark attempt, the score is the average score for that model across the month.

Nothing will let you fully remove Meta services from the Phone (3a) Lite after backlash

The Phone (3a) Lite is Nothing’s first phone to come with bloatware out of the box. But for a company that built its brand on “clean software” and transparency, that didn’t sit well with many fans.

After backlash from community members, Nothing has now responded to that feedback in a pretty major way.

Nothing’s co-founder Akis Evangelidis confirmed in a community post yesterday that the company will soon allow users to completely remove Meta services from the Phone (3a) Lite. That includes Meta App Installer, Meta App Manager, and Meta Services, all of which previously could only be disabled.

According to Akis, the change will roll out later this month. That said, the company has yet to address concerns about the Lock Glimpse service, which was also introduced with the Phone (3a) Lite.

It’s a feature that constantly swaps your lock-screen wallpaper and pushes website links and articles you never signed up for. The service is enabled by default, and while it can be disabled, it’s still the kind of thing that could frustrate anyone who’s not particularly tech-savvy.

Why were these apps there in the first place?

The Phone (3a) Lite comes with TikTok (in select regions), Instagram, and Facebook already installed, apps Nothing says most users download anyway. Nothing claims pre-loading them brings real performance benefits:

Faster app launches (up to 50–100ms quicker)
Better background retention (no reloads when switching back)
Lower battery drain
Smoother in-app camera performance

It’s a pitch that sounds a lot like the one from phone makers in the early Android bloatware era, but Nothing says users still have control.

All apps can be uninstalled, and according to the company, the Meta service layer was only there to keep them updated and stable. However, now that it’s allowing Meta services to be uninstalled as well, it’s a good thing indeed.

Nothing also confirmed that its introducing a new “app recommendation service” that appears only during setup, offering pre-screened apps to help new users get started faster. The company says this can be skipped entirely, and even disabled through system settings if you don’t want it.

OnePlus Ace 6 Pro Max retail box image emerge, could be the first Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phone

Recently, Redmi unveiled the Redmi K90 and Redmi K90 Pro Max. The latter came as a bit of a surprise, as it was expected to carry Redmi K90 Pro branding according to early leaks. Now, a new leak reveals that OnePlus will also adopt the Pro Max branding for its upcoming performance-focused flagship.

The above images (the second image is a cropped version of the original) reveal a retail box image of the OnePlus Ace 6 Pro Max. The moniker suggests that it will offer superior performance compared to the Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered OnePlus Ace 6, which debuted in China last month.

Last month, OnePlus confirmed that it will be the first brand to launch a phone powered by the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 chipset. Therefore, it is likely that the Ace 6 Pro Max may debut soon as the world’s first Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 phone.

Interestingly, the Vivo S50 Pro Mini, which is expected to debut later this month, is also said to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC. Therefore, the OnePlus Ace 6 Pro Max featuring the same chip may debut before the end of this month in China.

The Ace 6 Pro Max could be the same phone that’s being referred to as the Ace 6 Turbo in recent leaks. It is said to feature a 6.7-inch OLED screen that supports a 1.5K resolution and a 165Hz refresh rate. Apart from the Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 SoC, it is expected to arrive with an 8,000mAh battery with 100W charging support.

For photography, it may feature a 32-megapixel front camera and a 50-megapixel (main, OIS) + 8-megapixel (ultra-wide) dual-camera system. It is expected to come with other features such as ColorOS 16-based Android 16, dual speakers, an x-axis linear motor, an ultrasonic in-screen fingerprint scanner, NFC, a metal middle frame, and weigh around 216 grams. It may come in three shades: Flash Black, Electric Purple, and Glimpse Green, as well as a special edition version.

This phone is also expected to be launched in India before the end of this year. Likely, it may get rebranded as the OnePlus 15R in the country.

Smartphone battery life in 2025 isn’t just about how many milliamp-hours you can cram into a device anymore. Sure, battery capacity still matters, but the game has changed pretty dramatically.

Thanks to newer battery technologies like silicon-carbon, several Chinese phone makers have basically said “forget the 5,000mAh limit” and pushed way past it. The Xiaomi 17 Pro Max now packs a massive 7,500mAh battery, while phones like the iQOO 15, OnePlus 15, and various Realme GT models are hovering around the 7,000mAh mark.

But here’s the thing: a bigger battery doesn’t automatically mean your phone will last longer. Battery life depends on a whole bunch of factors, such as how efficiently your phone uses power, what kind of display it has, how well the software is optimized, how it handles heat, and even how it manages your network connections.

1. Capacity Is Just the Beginning

Yes, a higher mAh or watt-hour rating generally means more stored charge. But that’s not the whole story. You could have a phone with a 7,000mAh battery that dies faster than one with 5,000mAh if it’s running a power-hungry screen, demanding apps, or poorly optimized software.

Sometimes budget phones actually outlast premium flagships simply because they have less going on under the hood. Take something like the Redmi 15 with its 7,000mAh battery; it can go forever partly because it doesn’t have a bunch of power-guzzling features fighting for juice.

2. Display Specs Have a Big Impact

Those gorgeous high-refresh-rate screens? They’re battery killers. Phones with 120Hz or 144Hz OLED panels use noticeably more power.

The good news is that manufacturers have gotten smarter about this. LTPO technology lets screens adjust their refresh rate on the fly, dropping all the way down to 1Hz when you’re just looking at a static image. Phones without this feature, or those stuck at a constant high refresh rate, will drain faster.

Then there’s the new brightness race. Every company is pushing peak brightness higher; many flagships now hit 5,000 nits easily. Great for outdoor visibility, but if you’re someone who cranks up the brightness or uses your phone outside frequently, expect noticeably faster battery drain.

3. Processor Efficiency and Thermal Design Matter

The chip inside your phone makes a big difference. Newer processors like the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 or Dimensity 9500 are more power-efficient and handle heat better.

But when you’re gaming hard or taking lots of photos, phones can get hot and start throttling, which actually increases power consumption. Good thermal design, basically, how well your phone dissipates heat, helps keep performance steady without draining the battery.

If your phone heats up during simple tasks like video calls or navigation, expect the battery to drain faster.

4. Software Optimization Is a Key Factor

Here’s where Apple and Samsung still have an edge. The iPhone 17 Pro Max and Galaxy S25 Ultra don’t have the biggest batteries out there, but they often outlast phones with much larger capacities. Why? Software. iOS and One UI are really good at managing what’s happening in the background, controlling location services, and switching between networks efficiently.

Fast charging has gotten pretty wild in 2025. We’re talking 100W to 120W wired charging and 50W wireless in many phones. That’s great for getting back up to speed quickly, but what really matters for the long haul is how your phone manages heat while charging.

Look for features like trickle charging, bypass charging (useful when gaming while plugged in), and scheduled night charging; these all help reduce battery degradation over time. More phones are also including battery health monitoring to help preserve capacity as your device ages.

6. Real-World Use Tells the Real Story

At the end of the day, no spec sheet can fully predict how long your phone will actually last. Real battery life depends on how you use it, your screen time, how much you’re on calls, how many apps you have syncing in the background, and what you’re doing with your phone.

That’s why independent battery tests and real-world reviews are so valuable. They cut through the marketing and show you what actually happens when you use the phone like a normal person.

In 2025, those Chinese flagships with massive batteries are genuinely impressive, and many deliver excellent real-world performance. But don’t count out phones from Apple, Samsung, and others that might have smaller batteries but make up for it with smart optimization.

The bottom line? If battery life is your priority, look at the whole picture, not just that mAh number.

Vivo Y500 Pro spotted on Geekbench, launch date, key specs officially confirmed

While teasing the arrival of the Vivo X300 series for China last month, Vivo confirmed that the home market will also be receiving a powerful Y-series phone called the Vivo Y500 Pro in November. It also confirmed that the device will be equipped with a flagship-grade 200-megapixel Samsung HP5 camera. Today, the brand rolled out the following poster to confirm its November 10 launch date for China along with some of its key specifications. At the same time, the device has also surfaced on Geekbench, revealing its chipset for the first time.

These details suggest that the device is powered by the Dimensity 7400 chipset.

The listing also reveals that the device features 12GB of RAM and runs on Android 16, which will have a layer of OriginOS 6 on top. The company claims that it will be the first non-flagship Vivo phone to come preinstalled with OriginOS 6.

Oppo Reno 15 series phone’s chipset revealed via Geekbench listing

Oppo is expected to announce the Reno 15 series of smartphones later this month in China. It is speculated that the lineup will comprise three models, namely the Reno 15, Reno 15 Pro, and Reno 15 Mini. One of these devices has now surfaced on Geekbench, revealing key details such as its chipset, RAM, and OS version.

As shown above, an upcoming Oppo smartphone with the model number PLV110 has appeared in Geekbench’s database. The listing reveals that it is powered by the Dimensity 8450, paired with 16GB of RAM, and runs on Android 16.

Although the chipset’s name is not explicitly mentioned, the CPU and GPU (via source code) details are sufficient to conclude that it is powered by the D8450, which also powered the Oppo Reno 14 Pro. In the single-core and multi-core tests, the device scored 1,668 and 6,274 points, respectively.

At present, it is unclear which of the three Reno 15 models the PLV110 model number belongs to. Recent reports have claimed that the Reno 15 Mini and Reno 15 Pro will feature the D8450 chipset. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the standard Reno 15 will also have the same chip.

In terms of specs, the Reno 15, 15 Pro, and 15 Mini are said to be equipped with 6.59-inch, 6.78-inch, and 6.31-inch displays, respectively. While all three are expected to run on ColorOS 16-based Android 16, the other specs of the standard model remain under wraps.

The rear camera setups of the Reno 15 Pro and 15 Mini are expected to feature a 200-megapixel Samsung HP5 main camera with OIS support, a 50-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera. For selfies, the Pro model is said to be equipped with a 32-megapixel front camera.

The Reno 15 Pro is also said to pack a 6,300mAh battery with 80W wired and 50W wireless charging support. It will have a metal frame and a glass back. The Pro and Mini models are expected to offer an IP68/69-level of dust and water resistance.

A recent report claimed that the Reno 15 series is also heading to India by the end of next month (December).

This Xiaomi Sterilizer Feels Premium, Cleans Everything, and Costs Under $150

Xiaomi has launched the Mijia Smart Sterilizer, a 25-liter hygiene appliance designed for family use. It is available on JD.com for 1,199 yuan ($168), with coupon discounts bringing the price down to 917.24 yuan ($128).

The Mijia Smart Sterilizer targets families with infants or health-conscious users who need frequent sterilization of household items. It supports a large 25-liter capacity and accommodates a variety of items such as baby bottles, utensils, toys, and small clothing. The inner chamber uses food-grade 304 stainless steel baskets that resist corrosion and bacterial buildup.

Xiaomi equips the device with a dual sterilization system that combines ultraviolet (UV-C) disinfection and pasteurization. The UV system uses 24 LED lamp beads emitting at 260-270nm, scientifically arranged to provide 360-degree coverage. The pasteurization mode heats the interior to 75°C. Together, they can eliminate up to 35 types of microorganisms with a sterilization rate of 99.999%.

The interior remains antibacterial for up to 72 hours after each cleaning cycle. It features a graphene heating system that enables the sterilizer to reach 75°C in just eight seconds. Xiaomi says this optimal temperature helps prevent mold, remove excess moisture, and eliminate odors such as milk residue.

The airflow system is based on the chimney effect and aerodynamic principles. It enables even heat distribution while keeping noise levels under 29.8 decibels. It also includes a night mode that disables button sounds and dims the lights.

The Mijia Smart Sterilizer connects to Xiaomi’s HyperOS ecosystem, allowing remote control through the Mi Home app to monitor status, schedule cleanings, and switch sterilization modes. It also includes a child lock, anti-scald protection, door-activated lighting, and soft ambient illumination, while the top surface doubles as a convenient storage area.

Huawei Mate 70 Air rumored for November 6 launch with massive 6,500mAh battery; live images already leaked

Huawei appears to have taken a completely different approach with its “Air” model than Apple: practicality over chasing extreme thinness. The upcoming Mate 70 Air is rumored to pack a much larger battery and a more capable camera system than the recently launched slim phones, including Apple’s iPhone Air. Hands-on photos are already circulating online, and pre-launch reservations are reportedly open in China.

A hands-on image posted on Weibo shows a design somewhat similar to the Mate 70 Pro, with rounded edges and a slightly curved middle frame that should make it more comfortable to hold than phones like the Galaxy S25 Edge. While the display is out of focus in this particular image, a previous leak pointed to a micro-quad-curved glass design — a detail that lines up with what we can see here.

The leaks don’t include exact dimensions yet, but based on the early specs, the Mate 70 Air isn’t likely to compete directly on thinness. Instead, it’s doubling down on battery life — literally. The Mate 70 Air is rumored to ship with a massive 6,500 mAh battery, more than twice the capacity of the iPhone Air (3,149 mAh). Charging speeds are expected to top out at 66W via USB-C.

The camera setup also looks noticeably more advanced than what we’ve seen on other slim-focused phones. According to leaks (and the live photo), the Mate 70 Air will feature a triple-camera system: a 50 MP main, a 13 MP ultrawide, and an 8 MP periscope telephoto. A multispectral sensor is also expected to help deliver more accurate color reproduction in photos and videos.

The Mate 70 Air is tipped to be officially introduced on Thursday, November 6. As with many recent Huawei launches, the phone is expected to remain exclusive to China for now, with no signs of an international rollout.

If these specs hold true, the Mate 70 Air could offer a more balanced take on the “Air” concept — trading ultra-thin design for substantial battery life and camera versatility.
