Asus teases PCIe power breakthrough: 250W GPUs without the cable clutter

PC builders have long struggled with the mess of wires that snake across their systems, especially the bulky GPU power connectors. Asus is now hinting at a solution that could clean up builds dramatically: graphics cards powered directly through the PCIe slot, no visible cables required.

Asus has already pushed toward tidier setups with its BTF (Back to the Future) motherboards, which move connectors to the rear of the board and can feed up to 600W to certain Asus GPUs via a port near the PCIe slot.

The company’s new concept goes a step further. By modifying the PCIe 5.0 x16 slot, the motherboard can deliver up to 250W—far beyond the standard 75W limit. That means many mid-range cards could run entirely without a separate power cable. To make this possible, Asus routes additional power through an 8-pin connector on the motherboard itself, shifting the cable out of sight while keeping compatibility intact.

A 250W ceiling would be plenty for GPUs like Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 5060 Ti, while high-end cards would still need extra connectors. Asus also noted that these prototype GPUs will remain backward-compatible, falling back to traditional 8-pin connectors if installed in non-BTF motherboards.

For now, the design is only a proof of concept, with no release date or pricing. But if Asus moves forward, it could reshape how future GPUs are powered. Cleaner builds with fewer cables hanging across the case could soon be more than a dream—especially if other manufacturers follow Asus’s lead.

Xiaomi has launched the Watch S4 41 mm in markets outside China, following its release in June 2025. In the EU, it is priced at €159.99, while the Milanese Strap version costs €219.99.

The Watch S4 41 mm has a 1.32-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels and peak brightness of 1,500 nits. It has a compact build but includes several health and fitness features.

The smartwatch uses a redesigned heart rate module that provides more accurate readings, especially during workouts. It also offers sleep tracking and a 21-day sleep optimization program to help users build better sleep habits.

Logitech just unveiled a solar keyboard that could last 10 years without charging

Logitech has announced the Signature Slim Solar+ K980, a wireless keyboard that uses light as its only source of power. The device features Logitech’s Logi LightCharge technology, which allows it to recharge from sunlight or artificial light.

iPhone 17 Pro’s aluminum body has a “Scratchgate” issue

Apple’s new iPhone 17 Pro is drawing attention for more than its A19 Pro chip and new design. Just weeks after launch, users have reported that the phone’s aluminum frame is prone to scratches, especially around the camera bump—leading some to dub the issue “Scratchgate.”

A recent teardown from iFixit offers insight into why the finish may not hold up. Using the Evident DSX2000 microscope and hardness picks, iFixit found that while the flat aluminum surfaces resisted everyday wear, the sharp edges of the camera island were far more vulnerable. In tests simulating contact with coins or keys, the anodized coating on those corners chipped away, exposing the bare metal underneath.

Materials expert David Niebuhr told iFixit that the problem lies in the geometry. Anodization tends to bond less consistently around sharp transitions. A smoother curve could have reduced the risk of flaking, but Apple’s design choice seems to have left the corners exposed. The shift from titanium (used in the iPhone 16 Pro models) to aluminum helped reduce weight and improve heat dissipation, but it appears to have introduced cosmetic trade-offs.

Beyond the finish, the teardown highlighted some changes for repairs. The battery now sits in a removable tray secured with 14 Torx Plus screws, eliminating adhesive and making replacements easier. However, Apple also moved to a single-sided entry design, meaning most internal components are only accessible from the display side.

One positive: the iPhone 17 Pro includes a vapor chamber for cooling, replacing the graphite sheets used in previous models. Thermal scans suggest it spreads heat more evenly across the device.

Apple has not commented on the scratch reports. For now, users may want to use a case that protects the camera bump if they want to keep the phone looking new.

According to Lloyd, the Kolors refrigerator has been designed to address the everyday needs of modern households with a strong emphasis on freshness, hygiene, and energy efficiency. Its Auto Defrost function relies on sensors for light, motion, and temperature to decide when defrosting is required, eliminating manual maintenance.

It features an interactive display located directly on the door, which allows users to easily monitor and adjust various settings of the refrigerator without having to open the door.` A powerful Inverter Compressor maintains stable cooling while conserving energy, and Rapid Freeze Technology can deliver ice in just 29 minutes with the support of a hybrid evaporator and extra insulation.

For safety and hygiene, the refrigerator features Bactshield technology that reduces up to 99 percent of bacterial growth. The Viruzsafe-coated handle neutralises 100+ microbes and most common viruses for added protection.

Storage is optimized with Fleximax adjustable glass shelves, while the Honeycomb Crisper ensures fruits and vegetables retain moisture and remain fresh longer. The refrigerator is also designed to automatically connect to a home inverter during power outages, keeping food cool without disruption.

OnePlus 15 Might Disappoint with Downgraded Cameras & Weaker Haptics

A fresh leak has revealed some concerning details regarding the OnePlus 15. While it is an upcoming flagship model from the brand, the disappointing downgrades are stacking up. First, it was the display on the front, and now, even the camera system on the rear is getting worse.

According to fresh tweets from OnePlus Club, the brand’s next flagship might not impress in camera performance like its predecessor. Apart from the ultra wide angle lens, the periscope telephoto shooter and main camera are getting a notable downgrade. The primary shooter will reportedly be a 50MP 1/1.56-inch shooter with an f/1.8 aperture, while the zoom lens is a 50MP Samsung JN5 1/2.75-inch sensor with a 3x optical zoom.

To recall, the OnePlus 13’s main camera was a larger 1/1.43-inch sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. A larger sensor with a wider aperture allows for better low light performance and sharper images. Meanwhile, the telephoto shoot retains the same optical zoom but has its sensor size drop from the OnePlus 13’s 50MP Sony IMX882 sensor, which had a 1/1.95-inch sensor size. OnePlus has already confirmed that it is moving away from Hasselblad, in favor of its in house DetailMax engine.

Even the haptics are allegedly getting weaker. The OnePlus 15 seems to be switching from the AAC CSA+0916Turbo (602 mm²) used in OnePlus 13 to a smaller AAC ESA1016 (560 mm²) component. This could mean less punch, less crisp feedback, which was something praised on the OnePlus 13. Based on what we know so far, these changes are in line with the company’s plans to make the OnePlus 15 a flagship gaming device similar to the iQOO 13 that is quite popular in the Chinese market.
