Realme confirms to launch a 55-inch smart TV in India

Realme entered the Indian smart TV market with the launch of Realme TV last week. The brand’s televisions come in two sizes – 32” and 43”. Now, the company’s Indian CEO Madhav Sheth has confirmed that Realme will be soon launching a premium 55-inch TV.

The first sale of Realme TV was held recently. According to the brand, it sold over 15,000 units in less than 10 minutes. That’s an impressive sales figure for a new entrant in the smart TV market.

Realme Smart TV

Last week, Mr Sheth revealed that his company will soon begin local manufacturing of its TVs by setting up an SMT (Surface-mount Technology) production line.

Also, in an interview with IANS, he mentioned that 55-inch TVs are considered as premium and flagship. Hence, Realme is preparing to launch a 55-inch smart TV soon to ‘give users more ground-breaking experiences’.

Realme’s current TV offerings (32-inch and 43-inch) are similar to models by competitors. Only two things make them stand out and they are MediaTek processor and 24W quad stereo speaker.

There are a couple of TVs from Iffalcon that offer 4K panels at a similar price to Realme’s 43-inch model which has a 1080p screen. The competition is even tougher in the 55-inch segment.

We will have to wait and see if Realme can make a difference in India’s smart TV market as it did with smartphones.

Realme X3, X3 Pro, and X3 SuperZoom spotted on BIS certification, Could launch in India soon

Realme recently launched the first device in the X3 series dubbed as Realme X3 SuperZoom in Europe. This handset is also available in Thailand and is now making its way to Indonesia. Amidst this, two other models in the series have been spotted on Google Play supported devices list and India’s BIS certification. These handsets could be the regular Realme X3 and Regular X3 Pro.

Realme is known for launching successors to its devices in four to six months. The Realme X first debuted in May 2019 and was soon followed by Realme X2 and X2 Pro in September and October of the same year. Then, after a year from the launch of the first device in the series, the brand launched Realme X3 SuperZoom.

Just like the previous handsets in the series, the third generation is also expected to get other models. The upcoming next two phones in the Realme X3 series have been recently spotted by MySmartPrice on Google Play supported devices list and BIS certification suggesting them to launch in India soon.

Unfortunately, nothing is known about these phones except for their model numbers. First of all, RMX2086 is the already official Realme X3 SuperZoom. That leaves RMX2081 and RMX2085 to be Realme X3 and Realme X3 Pro respectively.

Anyway, we would like to take this information with a pinch of salt as the website which spotted it mentions the findings as speculation.

Huawei has filed the most 5G patents globally as of February 2020 – report

Huawei invests hugely in R&D and that is responsible to a large extent for the company’s consistent rise in the global market. The World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) released data for 2019 in April this year showing that Huawei filed a total of 4,411 patents in 2019. This made the company rank as the top corporate filer globally. Huawei store logo official featured 03

The Chinese tech giant’s patent portfolio spread even into 5G. IPlytics, a German patent data company has now announced that Huawei filed a total of 3,147 5G standard-essential patents (SEPs) of which over 2000 has been granted. Thus, Huawei ranked first in the number of SEPs filings among 5G companies worldwide. The 5G Standard Essential Patents (SEPs) filed by the Chinese technology giant accounted for 15.05 percent of the global total, making it a leader in the 5G communication field.huawei 5G patent

Huawei is followed by Qualcomm, Nokia, Samsung, LG, ZTE, Ericsson, CATT, NTT DOCOMO and Intel in the number of 5Gpatent filing. The released data also show that Chinese firms Huawei and ZTE both control a total of 34.02 percent of the global total of 5G SEPs filings.

However, we must note that most of Huawei’s patents have not been approved. Finnish company Nokia and South Korean enterprise Samsung have the largest share of its patents already granted. This is also an indication that both firms haven’t filed many recently as the process of approving a patent takes a long time, some times several years.

Samsung returning the physical rotating bezel on the upcoming Galaxy Watch

Samsung‘s smartwatch business may be behind Apple but as the second-largest smartwatch maker, the category is an important one for the company. The Korean giant has always deployed innovation, one of such is the rotating bezel first introduced on the Gear S3. However, when the company scrapped the Gear series for the Galaxy Watch Active, the physical rotating bezel was removed.Gear S3

Samsung may have got plans to bring the rotating bezel back on the upcoming Galaxy Watch. SamMobile quotes an unnamed source to have hinted that the next-gen Galaxy Watch smartwatch will have a design that incorporates the rotating bezel. Samsung is expected to announce its next smartwatch in the summer.

After the removal of the physical rotating bezel, Samsung experimented with a touch bezel on the Galaxy Watch Active 2. This rumour may be an indication that the touch bezel isn’t as good as the rotating one hence the “decision” to return to it.

The report also rumours the upcoming Galaxy Watch to have new sensors. The new sensors include an ECG and blood pressure monitor. This will further help users keep track of their personal health and fitness. Moreso, the ECG function has been a success with the Apple Watch, having been credited with saving the life of some users by detecting inaccurate heartbeats.

The FCC listing for the Galaxy Watch also shows the device will come in two different sizes. One will have a 45mm screen while the other will measure 41mm. It’ll also come in Wi-Fi and LTE versions just like past smartwatches from Samsung. In addition, Samsung will also release a premium titanium version alongside the standard version.

There is no word yet on its launch date but there are speculations that it would be launched on the same day as the Galaxy Note 20.

Xiaomi confirms that the Mi Mix Alpha will not have a Snapdragon 865 version

Back in September 2019, Xiaomi had officially unveiled the Mi Mix Alpha Concept Smartphone. The device featured a whopping 180.6 percent screen to body ratio and featured a futuristic never before seen design and display. While the company had revealed its pricing, the Mi Mix Alpha was never officially launched. Xiaomi

Earlier today (2nd June 2020), Xiao Zang, the Deputy General Manager of Marketing, officially confirmed on Weibo that the Mi Mix Alpha will not have a Snapdragon 865 version. The news was shared on the popular Chinese microblogging website and debunks the recent rumors. Unfortunately, this also leaves the fate of the launch of the Mi Mix Alpha on uncertain grounds again.

The Xiaomi concept smartphone has been highly anticipated despite its ludicrous price of 19,999 Yuan (roughly 2,815 US Dollars). It was announced with the then Qualcomm flagship chip, Snapdragon 855+, but has never been available for purchase. While Xiaomi officials confirmed that the company is capable of mass producing the handset, there has been no news confirming the same.

MediaTek denies report of circumventing US ban to supply Huawei with chips bought from TSMC

Huawei had recently lost its chip supply from TSMC after the US government enforced new regulations. Since then, various rumors have surfaced regarding the Chinese tech giant finding alternatives, with MediaTek being a viable option. Now, MediaTek has officially denied a few of these claims, which had the company circumventing US regulations.

MediaTek
Huawei’s Kirin chipsets are manufactured by TSMC

For those unaware, a Japanese news reporting agency recently claimed that MediaTek will be supplying Huawei with TSMC chips indirectly. The chipmaker would’ve bought the chips from TSMC and rebranded them as their own before selling them to Huawei. This has now been officially denied by MediaTek that also offered clarification regarding the matter.

According to a spokesperson, MediaTek will not be violating any laws or bypassing regulations to supply Huawei with TSMC chips. The report has been confirmed to be false and that the chipmaker will follow relevant global trade laws and regulations. In other words, the company will not be making a special case for Huawei or circumventing policies for any of its customers.

MediaTek Chipset White

While the chip manufacturer will not be buying TSMC chips for the Chinese smartphone vendor, it is expected to become its biggest mobile processor supplier. At the moment, Huawei is negotiating with MediaTek for 5G chipsets. The HiSilicon Kirin processors were present in 80 percent of Huawei’s handsets but this may soon change drastically as the company could adopt Dimensity 5G chips in the near future. Various reports have again claimed special deals or massive orders being placed, although, none have been confirmed so far.

Huawei is rumored to replace US equipment from South Korean semiconductor manufacturers

According to a new rumor, Huawei is preparing for the prolonged disputes between the US and China and is currently in works to replace US equipment. The Chinese tech giant recently lost its chip supply from TSMC due to US sanctions and is now, reportedly, looking into alternatives from South Korea.

Huawei
Huawei’s Kirin chipsets are manufactured by TSMC

Sources close to the matter revealed that Huawei is investigating whether or not to use US technologies against partners in its supply chain. For those unaware, the US had enforced sanctions which targetted US based technology that was being used by foreign companies like TSMC, this essentially had Huawei’s supply cut off. So in simpler terms, the smartphone vendor is checking to confirm whether US technology was actually used in their semiconductor equipment.

Furthermore, Huawei is also visiting various semiconductor based companies in South Korea. These manufacturers could potentially serve as alternatives within its supply chain, although, the details of these visitations are currently unknown. However, the timing is quite suggestive of talks already taking place for a new deal.

Huawei

At the moment, Huawei already has a massive inventory of chips that will last for up to 2 years. But the company is also heavily investing in the semiconductor industry, even encouraging Chinese companies to step up and rival the US. The semiconductor field is integral to Huawei’s product and service offerings, so while the US sanctions do hamper its operations, the company is actively working on working through the issue.
