Vivo Apex 2020 teaser shows its all about the Zoom

With the launch of the 2020 Vivo Apex being just around the corner, the company has teased the device online. Vivo‘s official Weibo account, a Chinese microblogging website, shared a poster that teased one of the upcoming smartphone highlight camera features.

According to the poster image shared, it is pretty apparent that the 2020 Vivo Apex will arrive with a zoom function. In other words, the handset will arrive with a telephoto or periscopic lens with optical zoom and may even arrive with digital hybrid zoom as well. This is clearly to create hype for its imminent launch and it does leave some anticipation regarding the smartphone.

Unfortunately, finer details regarding the exact specification about the camera and other critical details were promptly left out, so there is not a lot of information at hand. However, looking at the image, it details multiple lenses stacked on top of one another to create the word ZOOM. This may be indicative of its impressive zoom properties over its suggested 5x to 7.5x optical zoom capabilities.

Notably, the word “continuous” is also suggested in the teaser that implies a new functionality altogether. It may be indicative of the 2020 Vivo Apex’s new zoom lens, which could allow for optical zoom at different focal lengths. Although this is just speculation so take it with a grain of salt.

Previously, the Vivo XPlay 6 was launched back in 2016, and arrive with “full pixel dual core focusing” which brought DSLR-like focusing functions to smartphones. In recent years, mobile phones have increasingly become a compact and convenient replacement to handheld cameras, so it won’t come as a surprise if the successor to the original Vivo Apex concept smartphone brings new breakthroughs in the smartphone industry. So stay tuned for more coverage on the smartphone and its launch.

Honor View 30 Pro 5G and Honor 9X Pro launched for the international market

Huawei’s Honor brand didn’t leave out its phone products from the launch despite the US sanctions that have made it impossible to include Google services on the models. The company took the wraps off two amazing models for its international audience- the Honor View 30 Pro and Honor 9X Pro. Honor V30 Pro 5G

The Honor View 30 Pro is the same as the Honor V30 Pro launched in China. A flagship model it is, powered by a Kirin 990 chipset with a Balong 5000 modem for 5G. The phone comes with 8GB of RAM as well as 128GB and 256GB storage options. The View 30 Pro equally has a 4100mAh battery with 40W wired fast charging support and wireless charging support.

In terms of design, the Honor V30 Pro 5G utilises a punch-hole display on its 6.57-inch IPS LCD display with full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixel and 20:9 aspect ratio. We had thought Huawei would shift to an LED punch-hole design on this model that disappointingly didn’t happen. The elliptical shaped cutout houses two selfie cameras. The cutout ensures the bezels at the top is trimmed down giving it a 91.46% screen ratio.

At the back, the View 30 Pro packs a triple camera setup arranged vertically inside a rather wide module. The module equally holds the LED flash. Since the device comes with wireless charging, the V30 Pro uses a glass back panel. The flagship model packs a side-mounted fingerprint sensor found embedded in the power button on the right edge.

HONOR 9X PRO; SPECIFICATIONS, PRICING & AVAILABILITY

On the other hand, the Honor 9X Pro features a 6.59-inch IPS LCD display, along with 19.5:9 aspect ratio and Full HD+ screen resolution. Under the hood, the smartphone is powered by the company’s own Kirin 810 octa-core chipset. It equally comes with up to 8GB RAM and maximum storage of 256GB (UFS 2.1). The smartphone packs an impressive 4,000mAh battery.

For pricing and availability, the Honor View 30 Pro price wasn’t announced but it will be available in Russia and other countries from March. The Honor 9X Pro starts at 249 Euros for the 6GB RAM + 256GB storage model. It will also be available from March.

Honor MagicBook 14 & MagicBook 15 with Ryzen 5 3500U SoC launched

Honor today held a launch event which was live-streamed online. The Chinese tech giant took the wraps off a number of products that have earlier been launched in China for the global market. Top of the pack is the Honor MagicBook 14 and MagicBook 15 laptops.Honor magicboook 14

The laptop prides itself with having an ultra-thin build with 4.8mm micro-bezel design on three sides, said to be about 0.4mm narrower than the previous generation model. This helps in offering a full-screen and immersive field-of-vision experience. The display is a 14-inch IPS display which Honor says is laminated to prevent glares. The laptop integrates a webcam in front of the keyboard with a retractable design.  The power button also has a fingerprint sensor integrated with it.

Under the hood, the device is powered by AMD‘s Ryzen 5 3500U processor along with Radeon RX Vega 8 graphics card. This is notably different from the Ryzen 7 3700U processor and Radeon RX Vega 10 graphics card that the China version was announced with. The device comes equipped with DDR4 dual-channel memory and it uses PCIe NVMe SSD for storage.

Heat dissipation is one of the main focus of the MagicBook 14 & 15 as it comes with an S-shaped fab design. For higher-density fan blades, the number of fan blades has increased by 49 percent and the air volume and heat dissipation capacity increased by 38 percent.

As for the battery life, the new Honor MagicBook comes packed with a 56Wh large battery which the company says can provide 1080P video playback for 9.5 hours, web browsing for 9.4 hours, and daily office hours for 10 hours. Further, it also comes with a fast charger which the company claims can charge 46 percent in just 30 minutes.

Do note that the Honor MagicBook 15 features a 15.6-inch display that comes with a screen-to-body ratio of 87 percent. Apart from that, most of the specifications remain the same as the 14-inch model.

As for the pricing, Honor says the MagicBook 14/15 with 8GB RAM and 256GB storage is priced at 599 Euros and will b available from March in Germany, the UK, Spain and other countries. The pricing for the 8GB RAM+512GB storage version is yet to be announced but it will b available from April in some countries in Europe.

Design

Realme X50 Pro 5G, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Samsung Galaxy S20 are not among the most expensive flagships from the last generation, but they still offer a premium and trendy design. All come with punch-hole displays, but only the Realme X50 Pro 5G has a dual punch-hole. That is what makes Xiaomi Mi 10 and Samsung Galaxy S20 more elegant and minimalistic. I consider Xiaomi Mi 10 a more beautiful device with its curved screen and its smaller camera module, but Samsung Galaxy S20 is more compact and, unlike the Xiaomi Mi 10 and the Realme flagship, it is waterproof with the IP68 certification. Last but not least, it has the Gorilla Glass 6 protection for both the front and the rear side. So it is the device with the best build quality.

Display

Samsung Galaxy S20 wins the display comparison, despite its Dynamic AMOLED panel is actually smaller. It is the only with a Quad HD+ resolution, so a higher level of detail. Further, it reaches the highest refresh rate with 120 Hz (only available with the Full HD+ resolution). The Samsung Galaxy S20 also provides an outstanding overall image quality. It will be a hard fight between the Realme X50 Pro 5G and Xiaomi Mi 10 since they have almost the same display specifications. We can not give you a definitive opinion now since we did not test both the handsets.

Hardware/Software

With these three devices, you always get the best Qualcomm’s chipset, with the exception of the European version of the Samsung Galaxy S20 fueled by the Exynos 990 SoC. The devices feature LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.0 storage, so expect astonishing speeds and reactivity in each case. Xiaomi Mi 10 and Realme X50 Pro 5G offer up to 256 GB of native storage, while Samsung Galaxy S20 only comes in a 128 GB configuration. On the other hand, it is also the one to feature expandable storage. Android 10 is preinstalled and highly-customized on each of these handsets. When it comes to performance, these devices are more or less at the same level.

Camera

On the paper, Xiaomi Mi 10 offers the most impressive main sensor on its rear camera department. But it lacks a telephoto sensor and its secondary sensors are not so amazing. Samsung Galaxy S20 does not have that amazing 108 MP sensor, but it comes with way better secondary sensors and a telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. We can not give you a definitive verdict only by looking at the specs on the paper, so you have to wait for us or anyone to thoroughly test these devices once they will both be available to purchase. Realme X50 Pro 5G has inferior rear cameras, but it comes with a very interesting dual front camera which includes an ultrawide sensor. A lot of people will find that useful.

Battery

Despite it is the base variant of the lineup, Xiaomi Mi 10 has an even bigger battery than Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro. It is equipped with a huge 4780 mAh battery which will surely last a lot more than Realme X50 Pro 5G and Samsung Galaxy S20. Further, Xiaomi Mi 10 has the fastest wireless charging technology with a 30W power. Realme X50 Pro 5G takes the silver medal with a 4200 mAh battery and the fastest wired charging technology (up to 65W, from 0 to 100% in 35 minutes), but it does not support wireless charging.

Price

Realme X50 Pro 5G will offer the highest value for money as it will hit the global market with a €599/$650 starting price (and the base variant will support 5G). Xiaomi Mi 10 starts at $573/$527 in China (it still did not launch globally), while Samsung Galaxy S20 will start from €899/$909 globally. On the paper, Xiaomi Mi 10 and Samsung Galaxy S20 are more advanced devices. The former offers a bigger battery and great cameras, while the latter has amazing cameras, it is waterproof and it even comes with a more interesting display, but it is smaller and more compact. Realme X50 Pro 5G has the highest value for money, it costs a lot less than Samsung Galaxy S20, but despite this, you do not have to face a lot of compromises. Which one would you pick?

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 and Wi-Fi AX3 officially unveiled; Specifications and features

Huawei Consumer Business Group just unveiled the Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 and the Wi-Fi AX3 routers via live stream, following their withdrawal from MWC 2020 due to the global coronavirus outbreak. The event was also used to announce other products such as Huawei Mate Xs foldable phone, MatePad Pro, MateBook X Pro, MateBook D series laptops for global audience. The 5G CPE Pro 2 is a part of Huawei’s CPE Pro series high-speed routers that support a wide range of frequencies including 5G. While the Wi-Fi AX3 marks Huawei’s foray into Wi-Fi 6+ terrain.

Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 specifications and features

The CPE Pro 2 flaunts Huawei’s innovative 5G Super Uplink technology and adheres to the latest Wi-Fi 6 standards. The router packs the latest 7nm Balong 5000 chipset that supports 5G NSA and 5G SA networks. The Balong 5000 is the first chipset in the segment to offer 200MHz bandwidth and carrier aggregation technology, which in theory can double the peak download speeds obtained by the first-gen CPE 5G routers to an astounding 3.6 GBPS.

Huawei CPE Pro 2
Huawei CPE Pro 2

The Huawei 5G CPE Pro 2 addresses an inherent flaw of TDD band routers. While they offer adequate bandwidth for fast connections, they can only cover a small area. On the other hand, routers supporting the FDD bandwidth cover large areas but offer limited speed. This is where Huawei’s innovative 5G Super Uplink technology shines. The technology leverages the best of both bandwidths, boosting uplink performance by a few notches.

The CPE Pro 2 is MU-MIMO-compliant and can connect up to 128 devices. It features dynamic narrow bandwidth technology, blessing Huawei branded smartphones supporting Wi-Fi 6 with blazing speeds and improved coverage. Despite measuring 30% less than its predecessor, the CPE Pro 2 features silent cooling fans that can automatically adjust operating speeds to stabilize the working temperature.

Operating at around 30 dB, the cooling fans can drop the temperature by up to 50%, which in turn reduces the router’s surface temperature by 5 degrees Celsius. Working in harmony is an effective heat dissipation system, which ensures the 5G CPE Pro 2 can handle the high operating temperature.

Huawei Wi-Fi AX3 specifications and features

The Huawei Wi-Fi AX3 flaunts Huawei’s revolutionary Gigahome processor and Wi-Fi 6 chipset. The router supports Huawei’s multi-chip collaborative technology that ensures Wi-Fi 6+ speeds, effectively doubling the bandwidth and offering better wall penetration when used in conjunction with Wi-Fi 6-compliant devices from Huawei.

Huawei WiFi AX3
Huawei WiFi AX3

Huawei made it possible by increasing the bandwidth to 160 MHz and implementing dynamic narrowband technology, which stabilizes the band frequency at 2MHz. Simply put, users can enjoy a more stable connection from afar while enjoying higher speeds near the device. The quad-core variant of the Huawei Wi-Fi 6 AX3 supports Huawei Share, which uses NFC to connect Android smartphones to the router, abolishing the need for passwords.

The quad-core variant also flaunts four independent signal amplifiers allowing Mesh networking on multiple Huawei routers. The AX3 is the first domestic router from Huawei to run Harmony OS. The OS optimizes routing from the app layer, kernel layer, and driver layer, establishing long-term stability. The AX3 also features HomeSec security protection, which uses an independent security zone built into the Gigahome quad-core chip, following financial-level security safeguards.

FCC: Realme 6i live images show quad rear cameras, 18W charger and Type-C port

Realme had an event today where it launched its first flagship phone of the year. The Realme X50 Pro 5G is the first 5G smartphone to go on sale on India. Realme might have another launch soon but this time for a more affordable smartphone. This device has the model number RMX2040 and is believed to be the Realme 6i. Photos and specs of the phone gotten from FCC documents published today have surfaced on the web.

The Realme 6i has a notch at the top just like the Realme 5i that was announced in December 2019. It also has four rear cameras arranged in the same fashion as that of its predecessor. However, the main camera is a 48MP sensor and not a 12MP camera.

The images show the Realme 6i also has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. The volume buttons are on the left while the power button is on the right.

The camera is not the only upgrade. If you look at the bottom of the phone, you will see there is a USB Type-C port at the bottom, flanked on one side by the audio jack and microphones while the other side has a speaker grille.

Sudhanshu Ambhore who shared the photos on Twitter stated that the phone has a 5000mAh battery capacity. Also, there is an image of two different power adapters that support 9V 2A output (18W). That should be good news for anyone looking to purchase the phone.

Realme 6i chargers

The rest of the specs are unknown. However, based on the above info, we know the Realme 6i is keeping the design of the Realme 5i but will have improved cameras, a USB-C port, and support for 18W fast charge.

Since the Realme 5i launched not long ago, it will be surprising if Realme announces a successor so soon.

Microsoft’s latest patent application is for a Galaxy Fold-styled foldable phone

Microsoft put paid to speculations about its rumoured foldable phone when it announced the Surface Neo and Surface Duo in October 2019 with the Surface Duo adopting a folding phone design. The two models which happened to be Microsoft’s first attempt at the dual-screen phones was billed to be released in 2020. However, seems Microsoft has got another concept foldable phones in the works.Microsoft Patent

A recent patent application stumbled upon by MSPoweruser suggests the US company may be planning to launch a redesigned foldable phone that may have borrowed some design inspiration from the Galaxy Fold. The patent titled “FOLDABLE DISPLAY DEVICE WITH INTERACTABLE USER INTERFACE SURFACE ON THE EXTERNAL SHELL” was filed with the European Patent Office in 2018 and was published in December of 2019.

The patent description details including a third screen at the back of a foldable smartphone so the user can interact with the phone without unfolding it into a tablet. Notably, this is the same concept used by Samsung on the Galaxy Fold which had an in-folding design with a small screen at the back that can be used when the phone is folded.

Interaction on the user interface surface during the closed state of the foldable display device may allow the user to select content to be shown on at least one display screen of the foldable display device on the interior section during a subsequent open state of the foldable display device.microsoft andromeda

Additionally, the user interface surface may be configured to allow an object produced (e.g., drawn or written) on the user interface surface to be stored for display on at least one of the first display screen, the second display screen, or the user interface surface. The interface will also allow users to transfer content to the bigger screen if they unfold the display. This could, in theory, allow seamless switching between displays and could improve the overall user experience.

OPPO Find X2 Pro Bluetooth SIG listing reveals SD865, 48MP triple cameras, 32MP selfie camera and more

OPPO recently confirmed that it will be announcing the OPPO Find X2 series on March 6. The line-up includes OPPO Find X2 and Find X2 Pro smartphones. Ahead of the launch, the Find X2 Pro has bagged Bluetooth SIG certification through which its key details have been revealed.

Earlier, the certification platforms like Thailand’s NBTC and Malaysia’s SIRIM had revealed that the Find X2 series would have two phones, Find X2 (CPH2023 model number) and Find X2 Pro (CPH2025 model number). The Bluetooth SIG certification of CPH2025 Find X2 Pro reveals that it is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 SoC processor along with 8 GB of RAM> it has an internal storage of 256 GB.

The listing also resolves any doubts over the phone’s rear camera. This would be a triple camera setup that includes 48-megapixel, 48-megapixel, and 12-megapixel sensors. The front of the phone would house a 32-megapixel camera in a punch-hole display cut-out. The selfie camera could be a Sony IMX616 lens whereas the triple cameras setup may include a custom-made Sony IMX689 primary lens, a Sony IMX708 ultrawide sensor and a telephoto shooter.  The phone runs on Android 10 OS and ColorOS 7.1 and it carries support for Bluetooth 5.1 and dual-band Wi-Fi.

The listing further furbishes details on the display for the phone series. Find X2 Pro would come with a 6.7-inch, QHD+ display. OPPO’s VP, Shen Yiren has earlier revealed that the phone series will have flexible OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 240Hz touch sampling rate.

Additionally, a video chip would also allow for upscaling from SDR to HDR. The panel specifications certainly seem to meet the “waterfall display” tag but with curves that are not very sharp. This would allow some room for hardware buttons on the side. The display will feature a hole at the top left corner. A Chinese leakster who on Weibo post said that Find X2 has support for 65W wired flash charge, 30W wireless flash charge, and 10W reverse charging. The Find X2 series will be arriving with some other features such as M1 co-processor, LPDDR5 RAM, UFS 3.0 storage, Wi-Fi 6 and NFC. There is no word on the pricing of the Find X2 series.
