Blackview A80 Pro video reveals its beautiful design

Blackview has scheduled the global open sale event for the A80 Pro in a week from now but the phone has already attracted a lot of attention since its debut earlier this month. Since the phone isn’t yet on the market, many users are eager to see how the phone looks in real-life, as they’ve only seen it in photos. So, today, Blackview uploaded a video on their YouTube channel to show the world the real thing.

Blackview A80 Pro

Its appearance isn’t far from what most smartphones look like nowadays so Blackview decided to offer the A80 Pro in four striking colors. The company names them Gradient Blue, Coral Red, Jade Green, and Midnight Black and all come with a refined plating finish that prevents the phone from looking dull. On the contrary, it enhances the contrast of light and shadow on the 2.5D back panel, which is especially obvious under lights.

As you can see in the video, the Blackview A80 Pro is sleek and has a minimal, elegant design thanks to its curved, ergonomic shape. The rounded edges join the 2.5D curved screen and back panel, extending the smoothness from back to front.

As for its size, Blackview says it’s 162.75 x 77 x 8.8mm and the 6.49″ display achieves a 90.3% screen/body ratio. The 8.8mm thickness is somewhat impressive if you take into account that there is a big, 4680mAh battery under the hood. The battery is charged through a Type-C port located at the bottom and the device also sports a 3.5mm audio jack and LED notification light. So, all the essential features are there.

Blackview A80 Pro

At the top left corner on the back lies the quad vertically aligned camera that comes with a Sony® IMX258 13MPmain sensor and LED flash. The fingerprint scanner is also there while the selfie shooter is placed inside the front waterdrop notch featuring an AI-driven Sony® IMX239 8MP sensor.

Blackview A80 Pro

Overall, it looks like a much more expensive phone than it really is as, during the open sale that will start on November 29th, the price will be just $79.99. If you are interested, bear in mind that the sale will take place exclusively on Aliexpress. You can add it to your cart beforehand so that you get notified when the global open sales begin. You can also join the giveaway to be among the 10 trial users to get the A80 Pro for free.

HMD Global to announce new phone on December 5; likely to be Nokia 8.2

HMD Global has announced via the Nokia Mobile Twitter account that it will hold an event on December 5. The event will be for the launch of a new member of the Nokia family.

While the tweet didn’t reveal any details about the upcoming phone, there are quite a number of devices we expect will be unveiled on that day. Below are some of the phones expected to launch:

  1. Nokia 8.2

The Nokia 8.2 is the most likely phone to launch on December 5. HMD Global launched the Nokia 8.1 on December 5 last year, so it makes sense that it is its successor launching exactly a year later. The manufacturer is also yet to announce an upper mid-range phone this year, so this is its chance to do so.

There are reports the phone will come with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 735 processor which should be announced at the Qualcomm Tech Summit scheduled a few days before the Nokia event. It has also been reported that it will come in different configurations with up to 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. Other rumored features are a 64MP quad-camera setup, a pop-up selfie camera, and a not so affordable price tag.

2. Nokia 5.2

While other 2018 models such as the Nokia 2.1, Nokia 3.1, Nokia 6.1, and Nokia 7.1 have all gotten successors, HMD Global is yet to announce a successor to the Nokia 5.1.

December 5 is sure a good day to announce the Nokia 5.2 even though it is coming four months late. However, seeing as HMD Global launched only the Nokia 8.1 at last year’s event, it may do the same this year and announce just the Nokia 8.2.

3. Nokia 2.3

Details about the Nokia 2.3 leaked early this month. The leak not only confirmed the phone’s name but also the three color variants it will be available in. The phone is reported to be a slight upgrade over the Nokia 2.2 that was announced back in June.

These are the three devices likely to be announced on that day but there is a high chance we may get just one device and that should be the Nokia 8.2.

A new V1938T Vivo phone that has a model number has been approved by 3C authority of China. Vivo V1938T Could be Vivo X30 or X30 Pro

The Vivo V1938t 3C certification suggests that it could be shipped with a charger that has a model number of V3330LOAO-CN. It is the very same charger that ships with the newly introduced iQOO Neo SD855 gaming phone.

The 3C certification also revealed that the Vivo V1938T is a 5G phone. Since the Vivo X30 series is the next 5G phone from the company, there is a possibility that the Vivo V1938T could be the model number of the X30 or X30 Pro phone. Vivo has recently confirmed that it the Vivo X30 will be the first phone from the company to support dual-mode 5G. Nothing else is known on the specifications of the Vivo V1938T smartphone. Now that the phone has appeared on 3C, it is likely to get spotted on TENAA with its full specifications.

Vivo X30 Cameras to Support 60x Zoom?

The Vivo X30 was recently spotted during the telecast of the “追我吧” reality show that includes popular Chinese artists on the Zhejiang Satellite TV. While the design of the phone was not clearly revealed, it appears that it could be featuring a full screen display with a notch or punch-hole. Also, the rear cameras of the phone to deliver 60x zoom.

Vivo X30, X30 Pro Specs and Pricing (Rumored)

The Vivo X30 could be coming with a 6.5-inch AMOLED whereas the X30 Pro could be featuring a 6.89-inch AMOLED display. Both phones are expected to deliver 90Hz refresh rate. The Exynos 980 5G SoC will be fueling both phones. The X30 may come with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB / 256 GB UFS 2.1 storage. The X30 Pro could be coming with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of UFS 3.0 storage.

The Vivo X30 may feature 64-megapixel + 8-megapixel + 13-megapixel + 2-megapixel quad camera system and a front-facing camera of 32-megapixel. It could be housing a 4,500mAh battery. The X30 Pro could be coming with 60-megapixel + 13-megapixel + 13-megapixel + 12-megapixel quad camera setup and a frontal shooter of 32-megapixel. It could be housing a 4,500mAh battery along with 44W fast charging support. The Vivo X30 may have a starting price of 3,198 Yuan whereas the X30 Pro may begin at 3,998 Yuan. As always, readers are advised to digest Vivo X30 and X30 Pro specs and pricing rumors with a pinch of salt.

Vivo U20 vs Redmi note 8 vs Realme 5s: Specs Comparison

Today Vivo surprised everyone by launching the value for money smartphone U20 in India. It is a very interesting take on Realme’s and Redmi’s affordable devices since it offers amazing specifications at an incredibly affordable price. It comes right after the launch of the Realme 5s in the nation and a lot of people are already considering its specs sheet even better. Another device that is fighting to become the best-seller under €200 in India and all around the world is the Redmi Note 8. Which is currently the device with the highest value for money? This specs comparison will shed some light on such a hard question to answer.

Design

The Redmi Note 8 clearly wins the design competition. First of all, it is the only which sports a glass back making the whole phone more elegant and refined (and protected by Gorilla Glass 5). Further, it is the most compact, the thinnest and the lightest phone of this trio. But despite the superiority of the Redmi Note 8, there is still to award the Vivo U20 which maintains a very thin and light body, even though it is equipped with a much bigger battery and a much wider display. Even the Realme 5s has a unique advantage: unlike its two rivals, it is splash resistant.

Display

Realme 5s loses the display comparison because it is equipped with a panel sporting a lower resolution. It is just HD+ and that is not the best for a wide 6.5-inch display as it does not provide a high definition level. On the other hand, the display is definitely one of the strong points of the Vivo U20, since it has a wide display diagonal (6.53 inches) and a high Full HD+ resolution. It even comes with the Widevine L1 certification which allows streaming content in high definition from the most known platform (such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video).

Specs & Software

While Redmi Note 8 and Realme 5s are fueled by the Snapdragon 665 chipset, Vivo decided to take a step forward by equipping the Vivo U20 with a more powerful Snapdragon 675, so you will most likely get higher speeds thanks to its higher CPU performance. Further, consider that Vivo U20 comes with 6 GB of RAM and a fast UFS 2.1 internal storage making its performance even higher than expected. Unfortunately, it does not have a 128 GB configuration, unlike the Redmi Note 8, but it sports a micro SD slot to expand the native storage. Android 9 Pie is installed out of the box on each phone but customized by different UIs (Funtouch OS, MIUI, and Color OS).

Camera

The cameras are the real weak point of the Vivo U20: indeed, while it sports a better display and hardware department, if you care about photo quality then you’d better go for the Redmi Note 8 or the Realme 5s. Both have a 48 MP quad camera, but currently, the MIUI seems to have a slightly better algorithm for imaging, at least from what I’ve seen by testing Realme and Redmi devices.

Battery

Realme 5s and Vivo U20 are the battery champions here: they come with a huge 5000 mAh battery, while Redmi Note 8 offers just a 4000 mAh unit. Between Realme 5s and Vivo U20, the former should last more since it has to manage a display with a lower resolution.

Price

Vivo U20 just debuted with a €151/$166 price tag (Rs. 11,990), while Redmi Note 8 starts from Rs. 9,999 (€126/$139) just like the Realme 5s. Due to its better display, huge battery and higher performance, Vivo U20 is the most interesting handset overall, but only if you do not care a lot about photo quality (in that case Redmi Note 8 is a better option, or Realme 5s if you need a bigger battery instead of an FHD+ display).

Samsung Galaxy A81 with S Pen stylus could be in works

Apart from launching the S-series flagship phones at the beginning of the year 2020, Samsung is also expected to new A-series phones. Recent reports have leaked vital information on the upcoming Galaxy A51 and Galaxy A71 phones. A fresh report on Sammobile hints at the existence of the Galaxy A81 phone. Interestingly, the Galaxy A81 is expected to arrive with support for S Pen stylus.

The report claims that the newly spotted SM-AN815F model number suggests that it could be an offbeat device. The letter that follows ‘SM’ in the model number usually denotes to the series a phone will belong to. For instance, S-series phones have SM-Gxxxx model number, Note-lineup smartphones have SM-Nxxxx model number and A-series phones have SM-Axxxx model number. However, the SM-AN815F seems to be a unique device.

The SM-AN815F model number could be belong to the upcoming Galaxy A81. However, the presence of A and N in the model number hints that the phone could be coming with a S Pen stylus. Recent reports have revealed that the upcoming Galaxy A91 that has a model number of SM-A915F and Galaxy S10 Lite with SM-G770F could be same device even though they belong to different series. Hence, there is a possibility that the Galaxy A81 could be a rebranded version of the Galaxy Note 10 Lite for some markets.

Samsung Galaxy Note10
Samsung Galaxy Note10

Apart from Note series, no other Samsung phones have featured the S Pen stylus. If the Galaxy A81 really arrives with S Pen, it will be a good attempt from Samsung on bringing stylus support on a cheaper as Note lineup flagship phones have always carried hefty price tags.

Samsung Galaxy A80

Nothing much is known about the Galaxy A81 expect for the rumor that it will be equipped with 128 GB of native storage. Hopefully, more details on the Galaxy A81 phone in the coming weeks.

The swivel camera system of the predecessor Galaxy A80 phone was most striking feature. It remains to be seen whether the Galaxy A81 will retain it. Leaked information that appeared few months ago had revealed it will be equipped with quad rear cameras featuring a 64-megapixel main lens, a 16-megapixel ultrawide lens, a 12-megapixel sensor with 2x or 5x optical zoom and a 3D ToF sensor. The Galaxy A80 was made official in April this year. Hence, there is a possibility that the Galaxy A81 could be made official around the same time next year.

Do you think Samsung should launch a cheaper phone with S Pen support? Share us your thoughts by posting your comments below.

There is a very thin earpiece lodged in the top bezel of the phone. The leak reveals that the phone measures 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8mm. The thickness of the device increases to 8.9mm at the camera bump on the back. The phone could be featuring a glass rear with a metallic frame.

The renders suggest that the display curvature is lesser than that of the Galaxy S10. The leak did not reveal the screen size of the phone. However, popular tipster Evan Blass had claimed that there will be three phone sin the Galaxy S11 series with varying screen sizes of 6.4 or 6.2 inches, 6.7-inches and 6.9 inches. Probably, these phones may debut as Galaxy S11e, Galaxy S11 and Galaxy S11+. The screen of the phone will be integrated with an in-screen fingerprint reader.

The rear side of the Galaxy S11 has a rectangular camera module that includes four cameras arranged in an L-shaped design along with an LED flash. The camera system seems to be housing a laser autofocus module. One of the lenses could be a 3D ToF sensor. Probably, its main lens could be the 108-megapixel Samsung lensv. The edges of the rear shell of the Galaxy S11 are curved towards the edges. The right side of the smartphone features buttons for volume and power. The left edge of the device is barren. The bottom side of the S11 features a microphone, a USB-C port and an external speaker.

OnePlus 7 Pro’s audio is almost as good as the Note 10+ reveals DxOMark Audio Test

OnePlus 7 Pro was recently put through DxOMark’s audio test and results reveal that its sound output is almost as good as the Galaxy Note 10+. DxOMark gave the device a score of 68 in audio playback and 56 in recording, taking the overall score to 65. This would place it below the likes of the Huawei Mate 20 X and the iPhone 11 Pro Max who currently rank high on the list.

OnepLus 7 Pro DxOMark

The DxOMark audio test reveals that the OnePlus 7 Pro has a pretty good audio playback. The stereo speakers are pretty loud, however, the test reveals that the phone’s speakers are better suited for music and movie playback than gaming audio. Bass is not exactly its strong point and the audio output is slightly lower in volume than other phones like the Huawei Mate 20 X. However, the phone managed to output overall balanced audio, giving it a pretty good score of 68 in playback.

DxOMark has reviewed nine smartphones so far for Audio

OnePlus 7 Pro’s recording score isn’t that great though. At 56 points, the phone ranks well below Mate 20 X and Galaxy Note 10 5G’s scores of 70 and 61 respectively. In fact, it is the lowest score for recording among the nine smartphones reviewed by DxOMark, even lower than Sony Xperia 5 and Honor 20 Pro. DxOMark points out that ‘Recorded voices often sounded unnatural and metallic, with their sound envelopes compromised by excessive compression’.

But if you are not recording audio through its microphones, the OnePlus 7 Pro should perform well in playing music and movie audio through its stereo speakers.

Xiaomi will fix slow charging on the Mi Watch via OTA Update in December

Xiaomi announced its first smartwatch, the Mi Watch a couple of weeks back. Being a relatively new product category for Xiaomi, users had a couple of questions or rather issues with regards to the watch. Today, Xiaomi’s ecological chain (MIJIA) product director Cheng Liang answered the two major questions about the Mi Watch.

Mi Watch featured 00

One of the big issues regarding the new Mi Watch was the slow charging speeds. Users were worried whether this was a permanent problem. However, Cheng Liang said that the charging issue on the Mi Watch will be fixed via an OTA update around early December. So, it looks like an issue in the software rather than the hardware.

Unfortunately, we can’t confirm whether this fix will be bundled with the December 3 OTA update. The first OTA update for Mi Watch will reportedly optimize several features, including first pairing, application market, dial market, notification prompts, input method interaction, and weather positioning.

Mi Watch Q&A

Another big question was about Mi Watch’s eSIM. If you recall, we had reported that carriers like China Telecom haven’t yet configured eSIM networks in China. So you couldn’t use eSIM services in the country, which was one big reason why the new Motorola Razr 2019 foldable didn’t launch in the Chinese market. However, Liang said that eSIM services are expected to be opened by Chinese carriers around mid-December. Once it’s available, Xiaomi will enable eSIM support for the Mi Watch via an OTA update. So users won’t have to do anything from their end to activate the services.

Mi Watch featured 03

The Xiaomi Mi Watch runs on Google’s WearOS platform with its own MIUI skin on top. It’s almost a mini smartphone coming with the ability to make and receive calls (via eSIM), connect to the internet, and even run apps like WeChat and DiDi.

Despite its stark resemblance to the Apple Watch, the Mi Watch tries to carve out its own identity via its software and features. You can read more about the watch from our Mi watch hands-on article.

Snoppa Vmate VS DJI Osmo Pocket: What’s the difference?

Recently we covered the new pocket-sized gimbal released by Snoppa, the Vmate. It is a small gimbal with an embedded camera that you can carry anywhere as it can literally fit into your pocket. There are other similar products like this on the market like the well-known DJI Osmo Pocket and today, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FAQlBPJm6kMSnoppa points out the differences between these two. Let’s see what they have to say.

For starters, the Vmate sports a 90 degrees rotatable lens and you can switch from horizontal to vertical orientation quickly. This is something very useful that the DJI Osmo Pocket is missing. In addition, the horizontal axis has a rotation range of 400 degrees so there are no blind spots or dead corners when shooting. On the other hand, DJI’s gimbal reaches up to just 280 degrees. That’s less than a turn.

Vmate gimbal

When talking about connectivity, the Vmatec comes with WiFi built-in and you can preview what you’re shooting on your phone and also use the smartphone as a remote control. Thanks to that connection, the Vmate can wirelessly transmit 4k video files to the phone. The DJI Osmo Pocket is using a USB connection that after a period of time is easy to loosen resulting in poor contact and it’s even easier to break. Not to mention the fact that it’s not very practical when using it as the cable gets in the way. Using WiFi means that you can attach the Snoppa Vmate anywhere on the phone while the Osmo Pocket has to be placed only on the right side of the phone. Lastly, both come with USB Type-C ports at the bottom but Osmo’s uses USB 2.0 protocol which means reduced transmission speeds.

Vmate gimbal

Both devices can shoot up to 4K@60fps video but the Vmate can also shoot slow-motion FHD video @240fps while the Osmo Pocket stays @120fps. In addition, Snoppa Vmate reaches up to 200Mbps bitrate and Osmo just 100Mbps. This means better video quality for the Vmate that has a new hardware module that does away with the focus issues found on Osmo.

Vmate gimbal

Vmate and Osmo Pocket are similar in size but the Vmate handle is 5mm wider to offer a more comfortable grip and it also has a slightly larger display than the DJI. Also, the Vmate has built-in Bluetooth and can be externally connected to a Bluetooth microphone like Apple’s Airpods, Xiaomi, etc. And even more important is the dual microphone of the Vmate that offers 2 functions: Noise reduction or stereo sound recording.

Vmate gimbal

The rest of the differences are found mostly in the software department. The Snoppa Vmate app offers a unique PIP mode besides the standard POV, time-lapse, panorama, and other modes. The PIP mode uses the smartphone’s front camera and vloggers love it. Finally, the Vmate has a TF card slot protected against water and also a lanyard hole if you prefer to carry it on your wrist. The Snoppa Vmate is currently in production and you can preorder it on Indiegogo at a discounted price.

Huawei Nova 6 5G promo video bares it all with respect to design

The Huawei Nova 6 5G arrives in a few weeks and today, Huawei has released a promotional video that doesn’t hide anything about the design. The new video comes a few days after the first video ad that showed us just the front of the device.

Unlike the first ad which is animated, this new video ad shows the real device in use. The video shows the Nova 6 5G in blue, the second color variant we have seen. The first being the red version leaked by Evan Blass earlier this month.

Nova 6 5G rear

The Nova 6 5G appears to have a mesmerizing light effect depending on the angle it is held.

The back of the phone houses three cameras and an LED flash vertically arranged and housed together. Flanking the sensors is a laser focus module.

There isn’t a fingerprint scanner on the back but it isn’t under the display either as the screen is LCD and not AMOLED. Huawei has put the sensor on the side where it doubles as a power button.

Nova 6 5G front

Unlike the render leaked by Evan Blass, the Nova 6 5G in the video doesn’t have the Nova logo on the back but Huawei’s own branding.

It has been reported that the Nova 6 5G will be powered by the Kirin 990 5G processor. It will have 32MP + 12MP dual front-facing cameras and a 60MP primary rear camera. The phone will arrive with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, a 4000mAh battery, and support for 40W SuperCharge fast charge.

Redmi K30 live photos confirm display has a 120Hz refresh rate

The Redmi K30 is scheduled to arrive in December as the very first 5G phone from Xiaomi’s subsidiary. Ahead of its release date which is still unknown, live photos of the device have been posted on the web and they reveal some very key details.

Redmi K30 live photo

First, the images don’t give us a look at the design save for the display and this is because the phone has a case on. We do get a good look at the punch-hole that houses dual selfie cameras. We believe the hole will be noticeable for the first few weeks but owners will definitely get used to it.

What the photos do show us is a generous amount of details thanks to the fact that they were taken with system information app, AIDA64, running.

The Redmi K30 has a 6.66-inch display with a 1080 x 2400 resolution. While the exact processor is unknown, we do know it is a Qualcomm SoC as the GPU is the Adreno 618. This is the GPU for the Snapdragon 730 and Snapdragon 730G and it appears Qualcomm is using it for the SM7250 too.

Redmi K30 live photo

One important info the first image reveals is that the device has a 120Hz refresh rate which is really exciting news. Xiaomi may be late when it comes to adopting displays with a high refresh rate but it isn’t settling for 90Hz but going for 120Hz.

Another of the image shows the Display Settings menu where users will be able to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz. The menu does mention that switching to a lower refresh rate will save battery. Under this menu, users will also be able to turn on reading mode and dark mode.

Redmi K30 live photo

The third image is the About Phone page and it shows the Redmi K30 is running MIUI 11 version 9.11.18. This variant also has 64GB of storage and is most likely the base model. There definitely will be other configurations but we hope there is support for storage expansion.

We are pretty excited about the Redmi K30 and its 120Hz refresh rate. We are also looking forward to its camera performance. However, we expect the device will sell for higher than the Redmi K20 when it launches.

Apple could be exempted from China Tariffs & It’s probably because of Samsung

The Trump administration is reportedly considering to exempt Apple from the upcoming round of China tariffs on iPhones, iPads, and MacBooks reports WSJ. While this would ensure Apple devices stay competitive, Samsung’s current manufacturing situation could have a greater role to play in this decision.

iPhone 11

Most of Apple’s manufacturing is based in China. So a tariff on imports from China will adversely affect the Cupertino giant’s sales in the country. And with iPhones and Macbooks becoming costlier, other brands like Samsung would get an unfair advantage. That’s because Samsung has shifted most of its smartphone and device manufacturing outside of China, in huge factories based in countries like Vietnam and India. So if Apple was to bear the brunt of the recent China tariffs, iPhones would get a lot more expensive as compared to Samsung’s flagship Galaxy series in the U.S.

“The problem we have is you have Samsung, it’s a great company, but it’s a competitor of Apple. And it’s not fair because we have a trade deal, we made a great trade deal with South Korea. But we have to treat Apple in a somewhat similar basis as we treat Samsung,” Trump was quoted as saying by WSJ.

Trump made this statement during his visit to the new $1 billion, 133-acre campus in Austin, Texas that’s being constructed beside the already-functional Mac Pro production facility. The campus will house 5,000 employees when it opens in 2022, which can be further scaled to accommodate 15,000 employees in the future.
