One of the 20 Xiaomi’s April 1 products revealed – it’s a smart formaldehyde monitor

Xiaomi recently disclosed that it would be holding an event on April 1 where it would unveil a record twenty new smart home products. The products will all be made available to buy on April 9 when the company holds the Mi Fan festival. One of the products that would hit the stands on that day has just been revealed. The product is the Honeywell Formaldehyde monitor.Xiaomi formaldehyde monitor

The prelaunch poster that was shared shows the product will come with a white outer casing. The design keeps up with the minimalistic pattern of Xiaomi’s ecological chain products. The front is pure black with the middle part housing a screen. The formaldehyde monitor comes with an accuracy of up to 2 decimal places. The product is manufactured by Honeywell which is a well-established industrial company and is listed on the Fortune 100. Honeywell’s business concerns across the globe include aerospace products and services, building, home and industrial control technology, turbochargers and speciality materials.

The Honeywell Formaldehyde detector/monitor will be a useful product for homeowners. Formaldehyde is likely to be present in most newly renovated homes. Mild formaldehyde poisoning can cause skin irritation, headache and dizziness. Inhalation of high concentrations of formaldehyde can induce respiratory diseases such as asthma, which is extremely harmful to pregnant women and fetuses. Thus, if the indoor formaldehyde value can be accurately measured, it will be beneficial both psychologically and physiologically.

OnePlus releases poster teasing April 1 event; OnePlus 6T Red variant coming?

OnePlus has released a poster that hints at an event that would be held on April 1, which is tomorrow. The poster doesn’t contain too much details of what the company will be launching on that day. But it contains a few clues of the likely product that would meet with us. The poster contains a packaging box apparently for a OnePlus phone but the box is partially covered with red satin material.OnePlus 6T Red variant

The poster is an all-red affair as even the OnePlus logo on the box is coloured in red and for the date, while the text is basically black, the number 1 is red. Thus, it is obvious that the product that would be unveiled, which is likely a smartphone, will be RED! That leaves us with the idea of a red variant for the OnePlus 6T. For the past two iterations of OnePlus smartphones, the company eventually did release a red variant. The OnePlus 5T had a Lava Red version while the OnePlus 6 had a more simply-named Red variant. The OnePlus 6T was expected to have a red variant and those expectations may soon be met.

The OnePlus 6 Red variant was a popular product and so, we expect the 6T to also be popular. OnePlus is expected to launch the next-gen OnePlus 7 in a couple of months from now and ordinarily, some fans may want to wait for the OP7. But then, it would be difficult to pass up the chance to own the sleek OP6T in red.

Alleged Redmi SD855 flagship phone spotted in same frame with Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun

Lu Weibing who is leading Redmi brand has already confirmed that the company will be releasing a Snapdragon 855 powered Redmi phone. When fans were pestering him on the arrival of SD855 Redmi phone, he said that it is still too early to talk about it and the company is currently focused on the sales of Redmi 7 and Redmi Note 7 Pro. A fresh photo of Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun is doing rounds on Weibo. A Chinese tipster has claimed that a smartphone shown in the background could be the forthcoming Redmi 855 powered flagship phone.

In the below image, Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun can be seen holding a smartphone with waterdrop notch screen. In the back ground, two smartphones can be seen kept on the table. It is being said that the smartphone with red colored edges is a full screen smartphone with a notch-less display. Probably, the smartphone could be equipped with a pop-up camera. It also seems to be equipped with a 3.5mm audio jack.

There is no concrete evidence to prove that the smartphone shown in the background is really the Redmi 855 flagship phone. Even the upcoming Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 is expected to arrive with a notch-less display. Hence, it is advisable to wait for further leaks to get a better view of the Redmi 855 flagship phone.

Unannounced Nest Hub Max listed on Google’s website with a camera-bearing 10-inch HD screen

Google abruptly pulled a listing from its website for a device known a Nest Hub Max. The device suddenly appeared on Google’s official website with the key specifications laid out and not long after, it was pulled down. But not before eagle-eyed netizens have collected screenshots of the listing page.

From the images, we can grab that the Google Nest Hub Max will come with a 10-inch HD display with a built-in Nest Cam for motion and sound alerts. Thus, the device can be used to monitor the home while you are away and you get security alerts when motion or sound is detected. We expect there’ll be a benchmark as to the minimum sound level after which the alert will be sent. The device will also come with stereo speakers and can be used to make video calls to friends and family through Google Duo in conjunction with the camera.Google Nest Hub Max

The listing didn’t actually feature the actual image of the device so, we strongly believe the listing was meant to be a teaser. The design may likely be similar to the Google Home Hub but with a bigger size. The Home Hub has a 7-inch screen as against 10 inches on the Nest Hub Max. The device is expected to be released this year but since this is the first time the device is popping into the scene, we’ll have to wait for the company to confirm if it really plans to unveil it soon

Huawei reveals it has no plans for an IPO at the moment so as to focus on future technology

Huawei is one of the financially strong tech company globally and apparently, the company isn’t in need of any financial backing going by recent statements from the company’s CEO. Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer Business at the IT Leaders Summit held today in Shenzen, China, disclosed why the company isn’t going public anytime soon and that is because it is investing in the future. He hinted that a public listing would make the company shift its focus to short term profits for investors.Huawei

Richard Yu also stated that basic research was a very important factor for the core competitiveness of enterprises and countries. Huawei has invested heavily in Research and Development (R&D) over the years and we see the result in the innovative technology that accompanies its smartphones.

Earlier in the week at Huawei’s 2018 Annual Report press conference, Guo Ping, the rotating chairman of Huawei, also talked about the issue of an IPO. He pointed out that Huawei has no listing plan yet. He also stressed that going public will not solve the problem of the US government. Huawei is said to be a 100% private enterprise held by employees. The company implemented the employee stock ownership plan through the trade unions with the total number of participants put at 96,768. The participants were said to be employees of the company only and no government parastatal or institutions held Huawei’s equity. That would need a lot of convincing for parties like the US government to believe. The company is in profitable ways, though, going by its recent financial report.

Unreleased phone teased by Android senior VP could be Google Pixel 3a or 3a XL

Multiple reports have claimed that Google will be soon launching Pixel 3a series smartphones as mid-range versions of the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones from last year. Early reports had claimed that cheaper editions of the Pixel 3 series will be unveiled as Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite. However, newer reports have stated that they will be respectively hitting the market as Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL. Google Senior Vice President of Android, Hiroshi Lockheimer has recently tweeted about an unreleased phone. He claimed that he had snapped some photos using it but has refrained from sharing them. Probably, he could be testing the Pixel 3a or Pixel 3a XL in real-life scenarios which in turn suggests that the arrival of the Pixel 3a series may not be far away.

Recent reports have revealed that the Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL will resemble with Pixel 3 in terms of design. The Pixel series of smartphones are made out of glass and metal. However, the Pixel 3a series will be sporting polycarbonate chassis. Also, they are likely to lack support for water and dust resistance.

The Pixel 3a and 3a XL are rumored to respectively feature 5.6-inch and 6-inch OLED displays that will support full HD+ resolution of 1080 x 2220 pixels. These phones could be respectively powered by Snapdragon 670 and Snapdragon 710 chipsets. These phones may feature 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB of native storage. They are unlikely to arrive with microSD card slot.

Google Pixel 3 Lite and Pixel 3 XL Lite

The Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL are rumored to borrow the 12-megapixel rear cameras available on the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL smartphones. These phones are expected to feature 3.5mm audio jacks that are unavailable on the Pixel 3 series. The Pixel 3a may house a 3,000mAh battery. There is no information on the battery capacity of the Pixel 3a XL. Some of the other features of the Pixel 3a phones include squeezable for using Active Edge to launch Google Assistant, Titan M security chip and eSIM.

The Pixel 3a and 3a XL are rumored to be arrive in colors like black, white and iris (bluish violet). The Pixel 3a may cost 450 euros whereas the larger Pixel 3a XL will be priced higher.

Xiaomi crowdfunds a safe thermostatic shower with six water outlet modes

Xiaomi has released a new product under the Youpin crowdfunding platform. The product is a safe thermostatic shower with six different water outlet modes. The device also comes with a temperature controller having a 1 °C precision. The product is a German Red Dot award 2018 winner for its innovative design. It is expected to start shipping on May 9 and its crowdfunding price is 799 yuan ($119).

The device dubbed Dabai Safe Thermostatic shower is equipped with VERNET thermostatic valve core imported from France. The valve can accurately and quickly adjust the mixing ratio of hot and cold water regardless of the water volume or sudden changes in the water volume. The whole process maintains a constant temperature of 40C, and so, you won’t need to adjust the cold and hot water knobs manually. You won’t have to be afraid of sudden changes in water temperature. If the device suddenly encounters very hot water, it immediately cuts off the water supply in order to maintain the temperature at 40 degrees.

The shower head is made of 304 stainless steel which won’t rust easily for a long time under humid conditions that are prevalent in the home. It is not easy to rust in a humid environment for a long time. The hose adopts all-round explosion-proof design, and it effectively isolates the temperature difference between cold and heat. The anti-winding design of the connection end is 360° rotation.

T-Mobile Sprint merger deal could still face blockade by several US states

Almost one year after US carriers T-Mobile and Sprint agreed to a merger, the deal is still facing several hurdles in the U.S.  Earlier on, there were reports that the merger’s approval by the US authority may be hinged on the two parent companies Deutsche Telekom AG (T-Mobile’s parent company) and SoftBank Group Corp (Sprint’s parent company) ditching Huawei’s technology globally. While that may have been agreed upon, there are reports that the deal may still get blocked by some US states.

Sprint /T-Mobile merger

Bloomberg reports that the attorney generals of several states are worried about the effect the merger would have on competition. The report specifically mentioned California and New York as states that are leading a group of over a dozen states that would file a lawsuit if the Department of Justice does not challenge the deal. The reports quoted unnamed sources of hinting that state enforcers have the power to go to court to block the tie-up even if federal officials at the Justice Department and the FCC approve it. Company representatives on both sides are yet to comment on the matter, but in the meantime, shares fell around 1% after the announcement.

T-Mobile initially offered $26.5 billion to acquire Sprint and all its market presence. This would make the company a major challenger to AT&T and Verizon’s dominance in the United States. The deal will potentially see the new conglomerate controlling over 30% of the US wireless market, with an even higher share in some states.

Image of Nokia 6.2 rear panel reveals dual rear cameras and a fingerprint scanner

The Nokia X71 is an upcoming smartphone from HMD Global. There are reports that the X71 will be released globally as the Nokia 6.2. The rear panel for the Nokia 6.2 has been seen on Amazon India and it reveals some interesting new details.

Nokia 6.2 back panel

The image for the listing reveals the Nokia 6.2 will come in black and white. There may be more colors but these two are confirmed for now. There are two cut-outs on the panel – a long one for the cameras and another for the fingerprint scanner.

The Nokia X71 is said to have three rear cameras but looking at the cut-out for the cameras on the Nokia 6.2’s panel, We doubt that will take three cameras and an LED flash. That cut-out will only be able to fit two sensors while the third is for the LED flash. If it were made to fit three sensors, it will be larger.

Take a look at the Nokia 5.1 Plus and Nokia 6.1 Plus which both launched first in Asia as the Nokia X5 and Nokia X6, they have a similar rear panel which houses two sensor and the LED flash while the fingerprint scanner sits underneath the setup.

Twitter user runs Windows on a OnePlus 6T

It is not uncommon to see a device running a different OS different from the one it actually shipped with. While most people try to play it safe by installing a different fork of Android e.g. MIUI on a Samsung phone, others install a different OS entirely. An example is the OnePlus 6T that is shown below running Windows.

NTAuthority, a Twitter user based in the Netherlands shared images of a OnePlus 6T running Windows. In one of the images, we see the famous Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) and in the other, there is a Command Prompt Window running.

As you can see, the notch is interfering with the user interface as the OS isn’t designed to support that screen type.

This is not the first time the user has installed Windows on an Android device. Earlier this month, he also installed Windows on a Pixel 3 XL.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G release date, price and variants for South Korea confirmed

Samsung had announced the Galaxy S10 5G alongside the other Galaxy S10 series phone such as S10e, S10 and S10+ in the previous month. The South Korean company has now declared the pricing of the Galaxy S10 5G for the home market. It also revealed that the smartphone will be available for purchase from April 5. Dealntech has come across the detailed specs of the phone. Also, it has revealed that the smartphone will be arriving in the country in two versions.

Samsung Galaxy S10 5G Specifications

When the Galaxy S10 5G phone was announced, its dimensions and weight were revealed as 162.6 x 77.1 x 7.94mm and 198 grams. The smartphone was said to arrive with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of internal storage. The publication has speculated that it could be the international variant and the model coming to South Korea markets will be coming slightly different specs.

The Galaxy S10 5G for South Korea measures 162.2 x 77.1 x 7.8mm and it weighs around 208 grams. The 256 GB and 512 GB storage editions of the S10 5G are both equipped with 8 GB of RAM.

OPPO patents slider phone with dual front-facing cameras

Last year’s OPPO Find X was the first phone with a slider design. Unlike the Mi MIX 3 and the Honor Magic 2 which actually have two distinct halves sliding against each other, only a portion (of the frame) of the Find X actually moves. A new patent reveals OPPO may want to try its hand another slider phone with a slightly modified design.

OPPO Slider Phone patent

The patent diagram shows the phone will have really thin bezels all around the display although the chin is a bit thicker. Based on the patent design, we think this is also a motorized slider and not a manual one. There are no two distinct halves sliding over each other like the Mi MIX 3, instead, about a quarter of the rear of the phone actually slides and when it does, it reveals the two front cameras.

This portion that moves also carries the rear cameras but they are not hidden when closed as you have on the Find X, so you don’t have a plain back when the slider is shut. There are two cameras on the back too and they are arranged vertically with an LED flash below the setup.

There isn’t a fingerprint scanner visible on any part of the phone. We think it has one under the display or OPPO might use only Face Unlock as it did with the Find X. There are volume control buttons on the left and a power button on the right.

Pico G2 4K is a standalone VR headset priced at ¥2499 (~$370)

Last year, Chinese VR company, Pico, released the Goblin 2 standalone VR headset with a 3K display. It has now followed it up with the Pico G2 4K headset, which as the name says has a 4K display.

Pico G2 4K VR headset

While the display is sharper and there have been some changes in the design, some things have remained the same. It is still powered by a Snapdragon 835 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM and 32GB UFS 2.1 storage. There is a MicroSD card slot for up to 256GB of extra space. It runs Android 8.1 Oreo and packs a 3,500mAh battery that charges via a USB type-C port and should last up to 3 hours on a single charge. The 5.5-inch 4K display has a resolution of 3840 x 2160 and a PPI of 818. It uses a modified Fresnel lens to control edge distortion.

The Pico G2 4K now comes in black but keeps the battery at the back of the strap for better weight distribution. The strap is adjustable and the headset can be worn with prescription glasses. It also has a 3DoF controller that comes in the same matching color.

The VR headset has a dual-platform store. There is the Pico Store and the VIVEPORT store, so you should have a wide variety of apps to choose from. It also supports casting to screen so others can watch you play.

Nokia X71 likely to launch as Nokia 6.2 outside Taiwan

Earlier in this week, a purported email from HMD Global to some dealers in Taiwan had revealed that it will be launching a smartphone named Nokia X71 in Taiwan on April 2. Some reports claimed that it could be launching as Nokia 8.1 Plus outside of Taiwan. However, some reports that it could be arriving as Nokia 6.2 in international markets. A new leak that that surfaced today suggests that the Nokia X71 may go official as Nokia 6.2 in global markets.

Previous reports had claimed that the upcoming Nokia 6.2 (also known as Nokia 6 2019) could be codenamed as TAS which stands for Taishun. Two screenshots of FIA OTA tracker of Nokia X71 and Nokia 6 (2019) that appeared on China’s Baidu recently show they are both codenamed as TAS. This indicates that these devices are same device.

TAS-Nokia-X71-TAS-Nokia-6-2019

The purported email from Finnish firm had revealed that the smartphone would be arriving with a triple camera setup with 48-mgeapixel sensor and 120-degree wide-angle lens. It also stated that the phone would be arriving with a punch-hole display. It is also expected to carry support for 18W rapid charging. Earlier today, the Nokia X71 smartphone was spotted on Geekbench with specs like Android 9 Pie OS, 6 GB of RAM and Snapdragon 660. Contradictory reports from the past have claimed that the Snapdragon 632 could be powering the smartphone.

The Nokia 6.1 from last year was fueled by the Snapdragon 630. Hence, the Snapdragon 660 SoC appears suitable for the Nokia 6.2 phone. A recent report had revealed that the Nokia 6.2 will be made official between March and June. The Nokia 6.1 was unveiled with a price tag of 279 euros (~$315). It is speculated that the upcoming Nokia 6.2 will be hitting the market with a similar price tag.
