Design
Vivo NEX Dual Display and Honor Magic 2 are something incredible if we talk about their aesthetics. The first is the world’s second smartphone to feature two displays (one on the front and one on the back) which allow a screen-to-body ratio close to 100 percent and the use of the rear camera setup as a selfie camera as well. Honor Magic 2 is a phone which minimizes the bezels thanks to a slider containing front cameras and sensors which the user can manually open when needed. Huawei Mate 20 Pro is nothing very special in terms of design, but it has a better build quality: it has glasses protected by Gorilla Glass and it is waterproof and dustproof thanks to the IP68 certification.
Display
The device which delivers the best display quality is undoubtedly the Huawei Mate 20 Pro. Indeed, it comes with a higher resolution (Quad HD+ with 3120 x 1440 pixels), it is HDR10-compliant and it supports DCI-P3 coverage, so it has a definitely better color reproduction. It even comes with loud stereo speakers, so it provides a perfect multimedia experience. On the other hand, Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition is equipped with two displays and it may result more comfortable. Besides the main AMOLED screen, it has a second smaller display on the back.
Hardware/Software
Thanks to the new Kirin 980 SoC realized with a 7 nm production process, as well as an excellent software optimization, Huawei Mate 20 Pro has definitely better performances than its opponents and almost every Android device actually in the market. And it also supports expandable storage unlike the other two devices. But note that Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition is the only one to boast 10 GB of RAM, so it can provide a better multi-tasking experience.
Camera
Huawei Mate 20 Pro is a clear winner even on the camera side. It has the world’s best triple camera setup composed of an impressive 40 MP main sensor and two additional sensors with ultrawide and telephoto lens. It has both laser autofocus and optical zoom which goes up to 5x, and it is equipped with an optical stabilization system. Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition and Honor Magic 2 are impressive camera phones as well, but they can not compete with Huawei Mate 20 Pro in any scenario.
Battery
Huawei Mate 20 Pro has the biggest battery ever mounted on a last-gen flagship smartphone. It comes with a capacity of 4200 mAh and, even though its consumptions are not low due to the QHD+ display and other components, it lasts very long. It can easily reach one day on a single charge even when stressed. Honor Magic 2 will probably provide a similar battery life to Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition, but it is the world’s second last-gen phone when it comes to charging times as it can reach 70 percent in just 30 minutes thanks to the Magic Charge technology.
Price
Huawei Mate 20 Pro is the best and even the most expensive device of the trio, it was launched with a price tag of €1099/$1250 globally but it has been on the market for a while and now you can get it for about €850/$965 thanks to online street prices, which is the same price for which you will be able to get Vivo NEX Dual Display Edition in Europe (according to leaks). Honor Magic 2 carries a €550/$625 price tag in China and it offers a definitely higher value for money.
The Huawei P20 Pro is one of the best camera smartphones released this year and its successor which will launch as the Huawei P30 Pro seems set to take over when it launches in a few months. A new leak of a yet-to-be-announced Sony image sensor may be one of the cameras that may crown the P30 king.
The sensor is the Sony IMX607 and an official document that contains all its features was leaked on Weibo yesterday. The Sony IMX607 is a 38MP CMOS sensor according to the document and one of its main features is its “exceptional low-illumination performance”.
The 1/1.8 inch sensor which is designed for use in phones, tablets, and computer cameras uses a Dual Bayer instead of Quad Bayer. It also adds a White HDR Coding array. The document also says the Sony IMX607 has a high signal-to-noise ratio, quad pixel PDAF, advanced noise reduction and three native ISOs (50/500/5000).
Huawei is said to have worked together with Sony on the IMX600 in the Mate 20 series and may collaborate again with the Japanese manufacturer for the Huawei P30.

Xiaomi has been quite visible in the race towards the release of 5G technology in 2019. The company has on several occasions showed us demos of the Mi Mix 3 5G version while performing functions using the 5G connectivity. At first, the Mi Mix 3 5G version was shown having 5G connectivity. Later on, we saw the device being used for video call. Internet of Things (IoT) is one aspect where 5G would play a big role as a result of the fast connectivity it offers. The video demonstrates how users will be able to use this feature right in the home to control the IoT gadgets. In this case, the MIJIA smart lamp is controlled using the phone and the response was in real time – swift!
Xiaomi Mi MIX 3 5G edition is powered by Snapdragon 855 chipset equipped with X50 LTE modem bringing 5G capabilities to the phone. Combined with Xiaomi’s smart antenna switching technology, the Mi MIX 3 5G version can achieve up to 2 Gbps of download speeds. The smartphone reportedly features aviation polymer cooling technology for creating high-efficiency heat conduction system for enhancing the user experience. Yesterday, OnePlus announced the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition at a launch event in the UK. Now, the company has today launched the smartphone in India for a price of Rs. 50,999, which roughly converts to $709. The phone will be available for purchase exclusively through Amazon from tomorrow, i.e. 13th December.
The highlight of the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition is that the phone comes with 10GB of RAM and the company’s new fast charging method 30W Warp Charge. The company promises that the new technology charges the phone up to 50 percent in just 20 minutes. The company says that it has used the new Integrated Circuits in both the charger and the phone. Further, OnePlus has finely tuned power management software without generating excessive heat.
As for the design, the phone comes with Papaya Orange accent finish that races around the bottom edge of the device before fading into the black color. It features a carbon-fiber texture under its rear glass and an orange lining which shines when viewed from different angles. The McLaren logo is placed towards the bottom of the rear shell.
The pattern underneath the glass back of the phone is based on McLaren’s groundbreaking carbon fiber. There are light streaks across the McLaren logo, illuminating and disappearing in an instant. The phone also has an exclusive software animation, which is tuned to McLaren’s unique style and history.
The company is including a book in the box that celebrates the history of both the companies. It also comes with the iconic Speedmark, recreated in McLaren-designed F1 AA grade carbon fiber – the same material used in the McLaren MCL33 2018 Formula 1 car.
Just like the regular version, the newly introduced McLaren Edition features a 6.41-inch Optic AMOLED screen with waterdrop notch, Full HD+ screen resolution, and Gorilla Glass 6 protection layer. Underneath the display, there’s an in-display fingerprint sensor.
Under the hood, the device is powered by Qualcomm‘s Snapdragon 845 chipset, coupled with 10GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage. For photography, the OnePlus 6T McLaren Edition features 16-megapixel + 20-megapixel dual camera setup on the rear and a selfie shooter of 16-megapixel on the front.
Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, WiFi 802.11 ac (2.4GHz + 5GHz), Bluetooth 5, GPS + GLONASS, and USB Type-C. The phone runs OxygenOS based on Android 9 Pie operating system and is powered by a 3,700mAh battery.
The Lenovo Z5s will likely not come with a Snapdragon 678 because there isn’t such a processor in existence. That Lenovo Z5s poster from yesterday was just misinterpreted and a new poster seems to clarify that.
Earlier today, the manufacturer released a poster that teased Xiaomi’s Mi 8 Lite for its choice of processor. The poster was actually shared first on Weibo by Lenovo’s CEO before it was reposted by the official Weibo account with a caption that teases the Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series processor.
If Lenovo is teasing the Mi 8 Lite for having a Snapdragon 600 series SoC, that means it isn’t using a 600 series chipset in the Z5s which the Snapdragon 678, assuming it even exists, falls under.
[envira-gallery id=”227368″]
We re-examined the poster that originally said the phone will have a Snapdragon 678 processor and what we deduce is that Lenovo is teasing the phone will come with a processor that belongs to the 600, 700, or 800 series, hence 678.
There are rumors the chipset in the phone is actually the Snapdragon 710 like the Lenovo Z5 Pro but there is no confirmation yet. Other confirmed features of the phone are triple rear cameras and Android Pie pre-installed.
Honor has confirmed that it will be launching the Honor V20 in China on 26th December, making it the first smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer to feature an in-display front-facing camera.
Next month, on 22nd January, Honor has scheduled a launch event in Paris, France where it will unveil the Honor View 20, which is the global variant of the upcoming Honor V20.
In the latest development, a report suggests that the Honor View 20 will be launched in India next month, i.e. January 2019, soon after the phone is unveiled globally on 22nd January. Thus, it’s highly possible that the phone will be launched in India in the last week of January and could go on sale from early February.
Earlier this year, in July, Sony announced its new Sony IMX586 48-megapixel camera sensor and now Honor has already confirmed that the first phone to feature it will be the upcoming Honor View 20. The company has also shared the first camera samples to reveal the photography prowess of the 48-megapixel camera sensor in all kinds of lighting environments.
The Sony IMX587 CMOS sensor offers a large pixel size of 0.8micron. Moreover, the Quad Bayer technology that stacks four adjacent 2×2 pixels into the same color. It will users to capture photos without noise in dim light conditions. The first camera samples show that the Honor V20 will be capable of capturing DSLR like photos on a smartphone.

While the phone’s battery capacity is not yet known, it has been confirmed that the phone will carry support for 22.5W fast charging technology. Google Photos has been offering unlimited free storage for videos and photos since 2015 when it updated its gallery app with a new look and design. The free storage works for both iOS and Android users, however, Google compresses the uploaded content in order to save space. Now, starting today, some video formats that are unsupported will take up storage space the limited storage space quota allotted to each user. The new change came to be known when a side note appeared on the Google support site declaring the same.
The side note says, “[Unsupported] Videos uploaded after December 6, 2018 take up storage space.” It seems some users were using the unlimited storage to their advantage by disguising unsupported movie formats and uploading them to avail free storage. The side note’s appearance on the support page means the change is already live currently. That said, Google supports a large number of formats such as below:
mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.
Do note that this change will have a minimal effect on smartphone users who upload photos or even videos through their devices. However, large files in unsupported formats will take up space. The Photos app has recently undergone a drastic redesign with Google imparting a new Material Theme design to the app recently.
This year Huawei unveiled a new charging protocol that launched with the Mate 20 Pro. Called SuperCharge 2.0, it provides 40W of power at 10V and 4A. A new leak has revealed that the Chinese smartphone giant will unveil a new protocol next year and this may be available for more devices.
The new SuperCharge charging protocol also has a voltage rating of 10V like SuperCharge 2.0 but it cuts the amperage to 2A for a 20W power-rating. This means the new SuperCharge protocol won’t be as fast as the one in the Mate 20 Pro. However, the good news is that it will likely be available on a lot more devices instead of just flagships like SuperCharge 2.0.
Huawei’s 20W fast-charging is still faster than Qualcomm‘s Quick Charge 3.0 which has a power rating of 18W and is what most manufacturers adopt for their mid-range, upper mid-range and even some of their flagships. Qualcomm has a faster charging protocol (Quick Charge 4.0+) but adoption has been slow by manufacturers.

It also comes with Warp Charge 30, a faster charging technology than Dash Charge. Warp Charge 30 charges at 30A and will charge the phone from empty to 50% in just 20 minutes. The rest of the specs are the same as that of the regular OnePlus 6T.
Huawei has recently released the Mate 20 series which included Mate 20, Mate 20 Pro, Mate 20 X and Mate 20 RS Porsche Edition smartphones in China. Since Huawei had launched the P20 and P20 Pro smartphones in March, it is speculated that the Huawei P30 and P30 Pro smartphones will be announced in March 2019. The P20 Pro impressed the smartphone enthusiasts since it had arrived as the world’s first phone with triple rear cameras. Multiple leaks have revealed the case images of the upcoming P30 and P30 Pro smartphones. The P30 Pro case images show that it will be equipped with quad cameras.
The Huawei P30 case shown on the left side in the below image suggests that it will be featuring a vertically arranged triple camera unit. Below it is a dedicated cutout for the LED flash. A cutout for the USB-C port is present at the bottom edge. There is another round-shaped cutout besides it, but it cannot be confirmed whether it is for the 3.5mm audio jack. Huawei had fixed 3.5mm audio jack on P20 and P20 Pro phones.
The Huawei P30 Pro case image reveals a huge vertical cutout which indicates that it will be arriving with quad cameras. There is a slightly vertical slit next to it. It could be housing more than two LEDs for flash.
Shown below are the P30 Pro case images by another Chinese tipster. The case for the P30 seems to be equipped with two round-shaped cutouts at the top. The bottom edge of the case has cutouts for external speaker and a USB-C port. There is another round-shaped cutout. Again, there is no confirmation whether Huawei is planning to bring back the 3.5mm audio jack feature on the P30 series.
The P30 Pro case image shown below suggests that it could be equipped with an additional button towards the lower end of the right edge. The handset could be featuring a dedicated camera launcher key that will allow users to hold the smartphone in landscape mode for capturing photos.
None of the above images feature cutouts for rear-mounted fingerprint scanners. This indicates that the P30 and P30 Pro could be equipped with in-display fingerprint scanners.
Rumors have it the Huawei P30 has entered last stage of development. The triple camera unit of the P30 is rumored to include 40-megapixel main sensor, 20-megapixel secondary sensor and 12-megapixel super wide-angle lens. The P30 series are to feature waterdrop notched displays. The P30 and P30 Pro are expected to be fueled by Kirin 980. The P30 is rumored to arrive with 8 GB of RAM while the P30 Pro may come equipped with 12 GB of RAM. It is also speculated that the P30 Pro will also have a 5G version.

Huawei’s GPU Turbo technology for accelerated GPU performance will be present on the smartphone.
The SoC of the Nova 4 will be coupled with 8 GB of RAM. It will be arriving with a native storage of 128 GB. The leak does not confirm whether the smartphone will be featuring a microSD card slot. However, since the predecessor model featured it, there is a possibility that the Nova 4 will feature it too.
The 3,750mAh battery with 18W fast charging was made available on the Nova 3. The same battery with same rapid charging tech will be available on the Nova 4. The handset will carry support for 4G VoLTE connectivity.
For photography, the Huawei Nova 4 will be featuring a 25-megapixel selfie camera couple with AI beautification capabilities. The standard version of the phone will include 20-megapixel + 16-megapixel + 2-megapixel triple camera system. In the high version, the 20-megapixel main sensor will be replaced by 48-megapixel while the remaining sensors will remain the same. There is no confirmation on whether the Huawei Nova 4 high version will be coming with Sony IMX586 48-megapixel sensor that will be available on the upcoming Honor V20 flagship phone. Probably, the Nova 4 could be featuring the cheaper Samsung ISOCELL Bright GM1 48-megapixel sensor.
