First-batch buyers will be among the earliest to experience these AI-driven enhancements, marking a significant leap in smart device interactions.

Oppo is expected to unveil the Oppo Find N5 in the next week. The device will come with key features, such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, around 5,700mAh battery, 80W wired charging, 50W wireless charging, and up to IXP9-level water resistance. It will come in three shades, such as black, white, and purple. The device is said to have an ultra-thin profile of 9.2mm in the folded state.

Oppo is yet to confirm the Find N5 launch date. Most likely, the foldable phone and the company’s next flagship smartwatch, the Watch X2, will be announced in the next week. Currently, both devices are available for pre-orders in China.

Honor users gain direct DeepSeek-R1 access through AI assistant

It’s been almost two years now, and the trend of AI seems far from settling down just yet. The bandwagon was technically started by OpenAI with ChatGPT but has now been joined by several competitors, including Google, Meta, and Claude, to name a few.

But the biggest shake-up in AI since OpenAI’s launch might just be coming from China. DeepSeek, a relatively new player in the space, made waves last month with its R1 model—a reasoning-focused AI that outperforms GPT-4o in benchmarks and is open source.

DeepSeek-R1 is available under the MIT license, meaning it can be used freely for both commercial and academic purposes. And that freedom is already making an impact, it seems. 

Major smartphone brands are reportedly looking to integrate DeepSeek-R1 into their AI assistants. Huawei has already jumped on board, and now Honor is following suit.

The company officially announced that an upgraded version of its in-house assistant, YOYO—currently exclusive to the Chinese market—will be powered by DeepSeek-R1. 

According to Honor, YOYO has a user base of over 130 million monthly active users. Now, with the integration of DeepSeek-R1, the company is promising a major leap in performance.

Honor is focusing on improvements in natural language processing, aiming to make YOYO more responsive and context-aware. Logical reasoning and deeper contextual understanding are also key areas where DeepSeek-R1 is expected to make a difference. 

Essentially, Honor wants its assistant to feel more intuitive, handle complex tasks more efficiently, and deliver a smarter, more personalized experience.

The company’s approach is all about seamless interaction. Users in China can use the updated version of YOYO by navigating to the “AI agent” section through a swipe up from the bottom of their device, and selecting “DeepSeek-R1.”

The rollout kicks off on February 8th and will be available to Honor smartphone users in China running MagicOS 8.0 or later. And not to forget, to enable the DeepSeek-powered upgrade, users will need to update the YOYO app to version 80.0.1.503 or higher. For now, the upgrade is exclusive to China, but whether Honor plans to bring it to global markets remains to be seen.

OPPO Find N5 Brings IPX9 Water Resistance to Foldables

OPPO is preparing to release its next-generation Find N5 foldable smartphone in February 2025, starting in China, where pre-booking is already available. The device has been teased by OPPO Chief Product Officer Pete Lau, who has already highlighted that the device features a no-crease main display.

In addition, Pete Lau has now confirmed that the device has an IPX6/IPX8/IPX9-rated body, improving its durability against water and everyday use. For those unaware, IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 are Ingress Protection (IP) ratings that indicate a device’s resistance to water intrusion. IPX6 means the device can withstand powerful water jets, IPX8 signifies protection against continuous submersion in water, and IPX9 denotes resistance to high-pressure and high-temperature water jets.

We already know that the Find N5 will be wider and longer than its predecessor, the Find N3, and will feature a slim design, measuring 4.2 mm thick when unfolded and 9.x mm when folded.

The so-called no-crease display, though not entirely crease-free as noted by netizens, still offers a significant improvement over the competition, effectively addressing a common issue in foldable smartphones.

In terms of specifications, the Find N5 is expected to include Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite (7-core) chip, a 6.85-inch 1.5K resolution LTPO main display, and a large cover display. The camera setup will consist of a 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultra-wide lens, and a periscope telephoto camera. The device will also support 80W wired and 50W wireless fast charging, reverse charging, NFC, and a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Global certifications from authorities such as NBTC, and SIRIM indicate that the Find N5 will launch internationally after its Chinese debut. It will also be rebranded as the OnePlus Open 2 for global markets.

OPPO is also expected to introduce the OPPO Watch X2 smartwatch alongside the Find N5 this month. More details about the Find N5 are likely to be revealed in the coming days.

Recent leaks and reports have confirmed that the brand is working on the Galaxy A56 and the Galaxy A36 models. But now, a fresh certification sighting has hinted at the imminent global launch of the Galaxy A36 5G. So let’s check it out.

And now, the more affordable Galaxy A36 has also surfaced on the same certification platform. The upcoming mid range smartphone can be seen carrying the SM-A366E/DS and SM-A336U model numbers. The DS here refers to support for Dual SIM.

Apart from this, the FCC listing also confirms support for 5G connectivity, Bluetooth, GNSS, NFC, and WiFi (802.11b/g/n/a/ac/ax). While finer details like its specification are still at large, the database also lists the smartphone with support for the EP-TA800 charger and EP-DA705 data cable. This charger is the same model that offers a maximum power output of 9V and 2.77A. In other words, the Galaxy A36 will offer 25W wired fast charging support.

Earlier this week, both the Galaxy A56 and Galaxy A36 were spotted on the GCF certification ahead of their upcoming announcement. Similarly, the Indian release was also confirmed last month thanks to the BIS certification sighting. Apparently, Samsung has already managed a yield of more than 30 percent in the latest SF2 (2nm) test production. Furthermore, the brand is working on stabilizing this process even further to get ready for the mass production of the Exynos 2600 chipsets.

This production is expected to begin in the fourth quarter of this year if the yields are stabilized as per their plans. So if all goes well, the Exynos 2600 APs might be released with the Galaxy S26 lineup in early 2026. The report further adds that the Samsung Electronics System LSI Division and Foundry Division are also putting resources into reaching the mass production goal of the Exynos 2600. Samsung has struggled with the yield rates in recent years with the Exynos 2500 reportedly seeing a yield rate of just 20 percent.

But for mass production, the company would need to hit at least 60 percent or higher. Rumors have pointed at the lackluster chip yields as the reason why Samsung chose to go with an all-Snapdragon Galaxy S25 lineup this year. Huawei held its first product launch of 2025 in Japan yesterday, unveiling a range of new devices, including the Watch D2 and FreeBuds Pro 4. But the most interesting reveal was the Huawei FreeArc, a unique take on wireless earbuds.

The earbuds feature a two-part design, connected by what Huawei calls a C-bridge. The battery sits in the back, while the audio driver—dubbed the “acoustic ball”—rests on the ear. It’s a similar concept to Huawei’s FreeClip but with a new form factor.

Each earbud weighs 8.9 grams, which is on the heavier side, but since the weight is evenly distributed, it shouldn’t be much of an issue in daily use.

The FreeArc comes in Grass Green, White, and Black and packs a 17 x 12mm highly sensitive driver unit for deep bass. Inside, it features a titanium-plated composite diaphragm and a high-performance neodymium magnet to optimize sound clarity. 

Huawei also touts a sound-leak-proof design that helps manage wave transmission, while a dual-microphone system cuts wind noise at speeds up to 4m/s for clearer calls.

For connectivity, Huawei is using a custom antenna layout to ensure a stable link with your phone. Battery life is rated at 28 hours with the case, and a 10-minute charge delivers up to 3 hours of playback. The FreeArc also boasts an IP57 rating for dust and water resistance.

According to Geekbench, the Snapdragon 8 Elite features six cores clocked at 3.53GHz and two high-performance cores running at 4.32GHz, paired with an Adreno 830 GPU. 

The listing also indicates the device will come with up to 12GB of RAM and is likely to ship with Android 15. In benchmark tests, the foldable scored 2,782 in single-core performance and 8,457 in multi-core tests.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra is reportedly adopting 200MP periscope camera like Xiaomi and Vivo

Oppo Find N5 leaks show off full color lineup

Oppo is building hype for its next foldable, the Find N5, with a focus on its slim design. The company has already highlighted the device’s minimal crease in a recent social media post. And now, leaked renders from tipsters Evan Blass and Arsene Lupin offer our first real look at the design—along with its full-color lineup.

The images show the Find N5 in black, white, and purple. At first glance, the design looks like an evolution of the Find N3. It features a large circular camera module on the back with the Oppo logo beneath it. 

The front of the device, however, has a few notable changes.  The bezels around the screen are significantly slimmer, leaving almost no extra material next to the outer display. For comparison, Google’s Pixel 9 Pro Fold still has a chunk of material on the left side, but the Find N5 eliminates that entirely, letting the glass meet the hinge seamlessly.

What to expect

It’s clear now, that Oppo is chasing the title of the thinnest and most compact foldable yet with the Find N5. According to reports, it could measure just 4.2mm when unfolded.

The inner display is expected to be a 2K OLED panel, while the cover display is a conventional flat screen. Also, it could be the first foldable phone to debut with the 7-core variant of the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.

Despite a slim profile, the Find N5 might still pack a big battery inside — 5700mAh, according to rumors. And this will support 80W wired and 50W wireless fast charging. 

The confirmed details include an IPX6, IPX8, and IPX9 water resistance rating, a Hasselblad-branded triple camera setup, a new white edition, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.

Like its predecessor, the Find N5 is expected to launch globally as the OnePlus Open 2, continuing Oppo’s strategy of bringing its foldables to North America under the OnePlus brand. But now, the fresh teaser on Amazon India has revealed that the Master Buds carry an in-ear design with a stem, which makes it resemble the AirPods Pro. These carry a dual tone design with a gray and black finish, which is also expected to be reflected on the charging case. At the top of the case, the Sound by Bose etching can be seen. Bose, the popular audio products maker had made a strategic investment in Noise back in 2023. Now, it appears to be directly collaborating with the brand for a premium audio experience.

The latest teaser on Amazon also confirms support for up to 49 decibels of adaptive ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) along with support for LHDC 5.0 audio codec for lowered delay and improved quality. The Galaxy S25 Ultra features a titanium middle frame and an upgraded Gorilla Armor 2 glass, which is slightly more prone to scratches than the original Armor glass. It suggests that Corning has engineered it to be less brittle—and thus more drop-resistant.

YouTube creator PBKreviews dropped the phone four times on concrete from the head height on its front, back, side, and bottom. None of the impacts managed to damage the front and back glass. The added rings around the camera, which JerryRigEverything managed to detach from the phone with his knife, also remained fine and protected the lens covers.

That said, the titanium middle frame had the most impact and damaged the concrete surface, and the marks on the frame were easy to clean as well. Titanium is much more durable than aluminum, and the switch to it from aluminum is paying off. While people don’t drop-test their phones like this, accidents happen. The front glass is completely flat this time, which also reduces direct impact on the front glass.

Cameras containing moving parts inside also remained completely functional. As PBKreviews noted, the durability of this phone is on par or slightly better than its predecessor, the Galaxy S24 Ultra.

Nonetheless, it’s also important to note that it was a flat concrete surface. A drop on an uneven surface may still hit the glass first. So it’s better to use a protective case on your shiny new device to maximize the protection. It’s now also easier to find screen protectors since it’s completely flat now.
